  1. Yes, i kept the bump stops. Cutting the springs was perfect for this car.
  2. I decided to cut one coil off each of the springs. In combination with the Tokico struts, the car rides great, no bottoming and at the desired ride height. For a bonus, it was easier to install. Less spring to compress and shove into the strut well.
  3. I have two Z's. A 240 (the one in the pic) and a 280. The 240 is the race car with Eibachs and Tokico adjustables. The 280 is the cruiser. Tokico non-adjustable and softer stock springs. Just dont like the car being so high off the ground.
  4. I want to lower my 280z using the original springs. I want a softer ride than the Eibachs but a lower stance. Ill be using Tokico struts. Question is how much will it lower the car if i cut one coil? What about 2 coils? Any one have feed back with this?
  5. Thought youd might like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1pLfowWerc
  6. Dont forget, there is a second video on motomantv. Its called, "What do Z's and sharks have in common?". Check that one out too. If you have TiVo, you can get both on "Video on Demand".
  7. Shouldnt you be in bed by now?

  8. Thanks for the info. Id like to ride in a car with that set up but we live too far apart (LOL). One more thing... Do you have stock sway bars? I have a 1" in front and 7/8 in the rear. I took the rear off because it was way too harsh. So if i changed back to stock springs, ill put the rear bar back in. Gosh, so many options its hard to decide.

  9. I just read your post from last year. Im having a similar dilema with my Z. I have the Eibach springs and Illumina struts. Fun but kinda harsh. Thinking about switching to shorten stock springs and same struts. Questions for you is... Is the stock set up still somewhat sporty? No problems with such a strong strut and soft spring? Thanks for all your help.

  10. I might be able to helo you. What part of San Jose are you? Have you tried the "Z Garage" off 1st St?

    Dash Lights

I have noted that Motorsports customer service has gone downhill. Use to be very friendly on the phone and would make recomendations. Now they sound dry and lifeless. Just take my order and thats it. With just a little more interaction, they could be selling more products.

    Dash Lights

How did you change the bulbs in the smaller gauges? Did you go from under the dash or did you remove the tach and go through that hole? Im having a hell of a time reaching the plug. I cant get the new (Motorsport) bulbs pushed into the socket.
  14. Sounds like there is no perfect weatherstripping. I just completed installing new weatherstripping around both doors. I got the OEM style from Motorsport. The U-channel and rubber are one piece. Very easy to install, less than 3 min each side. Yes, they are tight. Yes, i had to adjust the door striker. Yes, i have to use a little more force to shut the door. Im sure over a period of time the rubber will seat and the door will close easier.
  15. Why are you up so late? Dont you have to work tomorrow?

  16. Hey Andy, i saw Black Dragon has headlight harness and air horns for cheap. is BD a good place to shop?

  17. Wow, we have similar problems with our cars. Gas tank (i can smell vapors if the tank is full), leaking windows (both front and back) and of course, the radio. Guess thats what makes a Z car a Z car. Ill be back on tues, then work until Sun. So the first ill be able to work on it would be Mon.

Have you ever replaced the gas vapor recovery lines inside the car?

  18. Hey Andy, Sounds like your doing alot of work on your car lately. Are you really going to put in a sound system soon? Maybe you and I could do it together? Im still not sure if i want to take out the old radio. I thought to place a new one out of sight like in the glove box or under the seat and use a remote controller. What to do. Let me know what your going to do. See ya soon. John

    VW GLI Recaro

You could buy seat adaptors from a Recaro dealer specificaly made for the Z. I didnt go that route. I used the original Z sliders and built my own frame out of aluminium for the Recaros. Took some time but worth it since it retains the stock look and feel.
  20. Are the calipers in the correct position/side? Meaning are the bleeder valves at the top of the caliper. If reversed with the valve on the bottom, no matter how much you bleed them, there is a BIG air pocket at the top. I did that mistake...once.
  21. Yes i had just a little so i filed it down smooth. Fits into the rear of the speedo firmly.
  22. I installed a new speedometer cable i got from Napa. I removed the cable from the houseing and cut 1/4" off the cable. Then i inserted to new cable into the old OEM housing. Works great and no bouncing. Give it a try.
  23. You should go over and look at it. Thats the best thing to do. The front bumpers look like they are on upside-down. Other than that, it looks decent.
  24. I also just ordered a speedo cable from Napa. Hasnt arrived yet. Are you using the OEM speedo cable housing? Let us know how it work for you. Very interested.
