June 2006
That car in the far right picture makes me wish EScanlon could take a decent picture!! Hold on now, I know that sounded harsh, but I am just kidding. ES knows it, Beandip knows it, Arne and a7dz know it. Now we all know it!

Side marker light direction
Would have been fixed by now, but I haven't figure how to connect the rotisserie to reposition the car under the lights!

Need Advice, Worth Restoring?
Here, here! My thoughts exactly. I don't think there is anything wrong with restoring this to be a driver, but I think the Resto-Mod thing should be left to higher VIN numbers (my $.02). Last year I was travelling all thie time. I was searching for a low VIN, but finally decided, what I really wanted was not stock at all. So, I bought the the cleanest car I could find. Got a really pristine '73 with an AT for a good price. I am going to make it into what I want and not feel the pressure to make it stock. If I had <#250, I would make it stock. Then it could always be gone through again to be concour if your desire changed. Seems to me to be a shame to make a very early car not stock. But I don't own it and it is just my opinion (only worth 2 cents if I'm lucky!) PS, Grandpa, take me fishing!

Side marker light direction
Walter, Don't feel too bad. My project car has the back side markers on backwards and I get grief from my son's 19 year old buddy. I've known it, but the car sits waiting for the project to start (imminent now). He reminds me of it constantly. No respect!

ceramic coated intake manifold
Sorry for questioning you motives, but I'm just wondering what you hope to gain. The intent of ceramic coating is to shield heat, correct? Heat isn't an issue on the intake side. I guess I can understand coating the outside of the intake if it is for appearance or to help deflect heat away, but the exhaust manifold, or headers, is more common to ceramic coat. Sorry if I'm just dense.:stupid:

production number for 1969
Kats, Happy Birthday to you. Today is Father's Day in the USA, so I also want to wish a happy Father's day to all the dads out there, and to Matsuo san and Katayama san. Father's of the Z. Thank you for keeping us up to date with your latest information. I was not a 240Z enthusiat when this topic was begun. I have read it with much delight and consider it a gift to all Z fans worldwide. Best Regards,

Bumper mounting question
I just swapped bumper on my 2 '73s and sent one to the chrome shop. Mine both had the rubber pieces that lonetreesteve shows in his reply. I ended up not reusing them because they came apart when I removed them. I also just used a rubber washer. I may go the other way when the bumper comes back, but I'll have 12 weeks to decide. ouch!

motorsport pans
While I must qualify this by saying that I have never had to replace floor panels, I believe that the floor panels will work thru the early 260Z. The ones with the '73 240Z style bumpers. The later floor panels should be the same as the '75-'78 280Z. Good luck and don't let that stop you from going for the '70. If you sell your 260Z, send the panels with the car. They should increase the value a little bit. At least the number of interested people.

I live in Portland Oregon
I think we should have a salmonfly cruise. Too bad Gary will be fishing and not be able to make it this weekend. Of course, I don't think I can keep up with Paul's yellow car with 10" meats on all fours. Now that race car IS "arrest me yellow". You know ES, you can leave your hood up, I'll watch it for you while you're away. Now what socket will fit that....

ebay item number 4630016167
I must say, I really don't think it is a '70. The dash doesn't look right (aside from the color), no 2400 valve cover, front bumper looks like a '74 (but who wouldn't want to discard their '70 bumper for one with big rubber!). I'll admit it has the early steering wheel and back glass. They should use a close up pic of the steering wheel, drop all the other pics and watch their value go up. BTW, The wife wants the air dam for a nic-nac shelf.

MSA finally calls about a part, 1.25 years later
I had issues with a header I bought from MSA. Poor quality that needed to be repaired at a muffler shop before I could use it. I sent an MSA manager digital photos of what was encountered. They gave me full credit for the header and reported the issues to their supplier. I really don't think I could have asked for a more standup solution to my situation. I think MSA earned my allegience.

Harbor Freight Gift Card Auction
So Jon, what happened to your auction? When I searched on your aution number, it told me your auction has been removed.

hey hey
Welcome to the group. Is this your 1st Z? They are alot if fun. I'd remove everything that you local law allows. Well, except for the PCV valve. I think it provides a very positive function. I'd recommend keeping all the parts, you remove. Down the road, you may move to a state that might require the factory installed equipment. Good luck and again, welcome.

Canon EOS 20D vs, 30D
A friend just returned from Alaska with pics from her 20D. Some of the most amazing shots I've seen from a digital camera. Of course the lens is huge in pic quality and I can't comment on what she is using other than a 100mm macro, but it was the best sales tool I know.

Thinking of selling my 73
You ever seen the old gals with the sagging triceps? Tell your daughters that will be them if they don't work their arms once in a while. My wife drives her '73 every day. She says it took one day to get used to the steering. No big deal! How can they turn down such a sexy ride? They will regret it later. Don't sell it.

Pacific NW - Who's going to Canby in '06?
I'm in for both days. Not a huge swap meet, at least for Z parts. More of a 510 meet than a Z meet, but we should see every vintage Z in the book. Plenty of hybrids too. Its a fun time. I'm thinking more than 200 vehicles, but I'm not part of the organizing group. Just a SWAG! B

New Headlights - Best Options?
I'll have to throw my vote with Arne. I put the Hellas in my wife's 240Z with relays. I am needing a headlight for my 240Z and will plan to put the same in. They were about $80 last year.

Thank You !
Thanks Moon for bringing up this topic. To all you vets, I am in your debt. My prayers are with your comrades in hostile places.

Question about flywheel diameter change
Can anyone out there answer my question? I am planning to install a F54 engine from an '82 ZX 2+2. I know the flywheel diameter is larger in the 2+2 than the coupe. What difference would I find in running the larger flywheel vs the smaller stock flywheel from the 280 coupe? My understanding is the weight is equal, but the larger diameter may not spin up as quickly. What are your thoughts? Thx, Bryan

My compliments. That is one nice looking car! Glad to hear you had a good time. Z folks can be a warm, wonderful group. Or, I could have been there! .

Z car value
This is just my opinion, so please don't take any offense to my comments. IMHO, for $10k the car would have to be very cherry, mostly restored or a very nice low VIN number. For $20k this would have to be a pro quality restoration. I know that a pro restoration would likely cost more than $20k, but that has nothing to do with market value. Ask Z Saint about the cost to restore yourself as he completed a nut and bolt rotissery restoration. The value is what the market will bear. I think you'd be fortunate to even get $10k. Your car looks very nice, and I'm not commenting on your car as much as the Z car market. But the right person does come along and you could get what you want. I would carefully think through selling it. It is really special having a car that has always been in the family. I bought my last Z from a guy that only sold it because he had the opportunity to buy his grandmother's '65 Falcon Sprint. She owned it since new. Best of luck with your decision and the sale if that is your decision.

Radiator Source
Don't know what your setup will be, but a 3 core radiator from a 260Z is more than enough cooling on my '73s. I drove one home, about 675 miles in August at 104 degree temps (freeway driving) with absolutely no trouble at all. Good luck!
