Thank you Keith, I appreciate you doing this. Have you completed the restoration of your seats? If so, how did the "Japan Imperial Army Green" paint work out? Photos??
  2. @motorman7 My experience has been that NOS emissions parts for the 73/74Z are among the most difficult to find. You've probably thought of this, but, the Aussie's had the 260z for several more years (till 78??) than us in the U.S. and many of the parts are the same. I was thrilled to find a NOS EGR assembly from there for my 73 Zilver. Actually, as I got further into the restoration, parts came from all around the world (Kuwait, Turkey, Greece) { @Patcon } You "might could did up" a contact to @Gav240z and enlist his help in finding a few of the items you need.

Is this some "high country" S.C. lingo??? "I'm a fixin" to add it to my linguistic skill set.
  4. @Captain Obvious Good advice from our resident Sage---and I thank you again for the use of your "special tools". I'm still up for a copy of them Bruce!
  5. @RIP260Z Please elaborate---what did you find as a suitable replacement for the N62??
  6. For me it is the sheer number of springs, washers, metal bits and small pieces that proves to be so daunting as compared to the SIMPLE earlier SU's. It is no wonder to me why they have been given such a dower reputation over the years. Most of us , including me, are inherently somewhat lazy when it comes to complex assemblies---we just want it to work and be spared of the anguish of learning something new to make that happen.
  7. Choke vacuum breakers If the goal is to make the choke circuit functional, those diaphragms are often damaged and will not hold a vacuum--you should check them soon using a hand vacuum pump and start looking for replacements that will hold vacuum. It took me several sets to acquire one set of good diaphragms. Another fitzy spot is the linkage on the side of each of the carbs that actuates the choke vacuum breaker---a small u-shaped bent rod that connects the vacuum breakers to the choke plate shaft that is held by small cotter pins and has very small washers and springs as part of the assembly. Most flat tops are missing these parts as previous owners and/ or mechanics defeated the choke circuit entirely by removing them from the carbs. There are specific adjustments that must be made to enable the choke circuit to function correctly and it is a bit of a pain to get set. 1973 Flat Top Carb Info from TSB.pdf or better yet 1973 240z 1974 260z fuel system modifications.pdf Once set on a well maintained engine the choke circuit shouldn't need much more attention mechanically. You were familiar with the flat tops already from your previously owned 73 240Z, but these publications will provide some additional critical knowledge as to their adjustment.

@zed2 Hi Keith, I am doing the same, but the plastic pieces from my 7/70 240z were missing. I would like to purchase a set also. If you don't want to get into that, could you send me a kit with paper or cardboard templates for the earlier version? See you at Branson Zcon 2019?? Zup

@Randalla I used the circular anti-corrosion felts for battery terminals. They came pre-punched for the terminals to pass through. They came several to a package and although they were Christmas-y, (red and green), they worked well for me. I slathered them in Lubriplate bearing grease, working it into the felt and then re-assembled. Four years later the refurbished wipers work as new.

    Tide has come in.
  12. That is Mandatory! Alternatively (and optional), there is the Missouri version of the re-enactment of the East African Safari run which is restricted to Gold Cup winning cars only. @MikeW
  13. @Captain Obvious Something Bruce neglected to mention in this diddy: We passed a non-descript modern green Mopar while we were at acceleration. Bruce says'' You just poked the bear!" Not seeing any Smokies, I don't know $hit about what he means. He says----"That's a hellcat and I know the guy!" About then the hellcat screams up to the right and disappears into the exit ramp as C.O. is waving out the window at the driver. He had made up about a mile in 6 or 7 seconds.
  14. @jfa.series1 Who did that beautiful re-plate work for you Jim? That is a perfect example of superior workmanship, methods and results.
  15. That just has a proper ring to it for these Z'z Thanks for the legwork @zed2 !
  16. Congratulations Rich and also to the gentleman who purchased your car. He got a extremely nice example of a stock restored 240Z!
  17. 50K with ~8 hours to go. Rich--Your work is so much more thorough and correct. 26thZ and Patcon nailed many of the flaws in the current BaT Z. While I agree it isn't couth to disparage a nice car, you would think 50K would get the correct battery cables, spindle nuts and firewall grommets, etc.---sheesh! I, for one, agree that your offering will indeed set a very high new mark on BaT. You've become one of the most pre-eminent restorers of these cars! Sooo glad I've met you in person!!! You are Awesome!!!!
  18. Hey Keith-- The greenish color you need for the seat sliders is the same as for the horns. (I might add that it is correct as well for the heater blower and heater blower housing) @CanTechZ started an interesting thread some time back and I added my experience with trying to duplicate this color in it. The aerosols I used were Rust-oleum products readily available at Lowe's or Home Depot: You'll have to experiment a little to get the right combination of camouflage and oil rubbed bronze as I described in the thread. I think it will be what you are after. Colors don't show up well in the photo above or from the 2015 photo in the thread, but the greenish bronze combination is very close to the original color used on the components of the rails, horns, and heater box blower motor housings. Hope it helps. Zup
  19. Hi Garrett, I sent you a PM last night. Zup
  20. To emphasize to all --- The ZCON judged car show and the ZFest (People's Choice car show) will be held INDOORS in AIR CONDITIONED COMFORT at the Hilton Convention Center. This will not be like it was with the sweltering heat at Memphis in 2015 or at Austin in 2017. It might be hot outside, but baby its going to be COOL inside! Can't wait to see you guys again! Come on down for some Ozark hillbilly hospitality!!
  21. Can't understand peoples prejudices against them--- 1973 bone stock 240z with flat tops and points distributor 104 mph on the back straight at CotA in Austin TX 2017 120 mph personal best on a long straight going to Road Atlanta last week 24.4 mpg averaged over ~1600 miles round trip AR to ZCON 2018 and back (not hyper-mileing) Dedicated choke circuit for cold mornings I'm happy with the flat tops---yes they are more difficult to set up properly as the primary adjustments are all internal and can't be done with the carbs on the intake (floats and fuel nozzles), parts are scarce and expensive, but once that it is done I see no reason why they would not perform for a very long time with little additional service required. Many of the reported problems with them is due to a lack of routine maintenance of the engine in general. (valve adjustment, timing, plugs, points rotor and cap) If the quoted Dave Epstein was serious with his comments I wouldn't let him near my car----

  24. We've all safely returned home with the treasure of everlasting memories of the people, cars, and events that made the fabric of ZCON Atlanta 2018. Weather that complied, traffic that was bearable, planning that worked. While the cars are billed as the attraction, the chance to meet--- at least once in a lifetime--- these people so dedicated to the furtherance of the Z is unmatched by any other aspect. Legendary figures of our community were everywhere there. Enthusiastic youngsters and wise old owls. From stock to ultra modified. From project to weekend cruiser to pristine show car to champion racer---it had it all. And to think the Z began with this man---- and I met and I shook his hand and I thanked him.
  25. @madkaw Durnit--I'll miss meeting you too! I wish a speedier recovery for you. Maybe Branson next year.
