New recordings of my exhaust
I recently made some new recordings of my cars's exhaust because the one in my video sounds like total crap. I made 3 different different recodings: One from about 15 feet behind the car, one beside the car on the drivers side, and one from inside the car. I think they came out pretty good considering the equiptment i was using. I posted them on Putfile if anyone is interested in hearing them. Near the end of the recording on the inside, I roll down the window so you can hear with the window up and down. Let me know what you think. From behind the car. From beside the car. From inside the car.

Daily Driver
None taken. Its probably the most boring car I've driven in my life, but it does excellent on gas and has never had any problems. Sometimes I just need that "new" car feel.

Daily Driver
You really think a 280ZX 2+2 non turbo is worth $2000? Personally I think anything you want to use as a reliable daily driver needs to be much newer. I use my 77 280 as a daily driver about 50% of the time, and use my 97 Geo Prizm the rest of the time. I found even my 87 Buick Century with 70k original miles wasn't reliable enough to use as a daily driver. I just find its nice to have a newer car to use. An 83 is still 24 years old. Its gonna have issues I'm sure.

Am I the only one whose named their Z?
I call mine "My little blue car" or "My little pony." Yah, kinda stupid, but thats what i refer to it as. I call my Buick Century "The Ick"

Identity Crisis Car (?) on Ebay
I like it. Looks to be in good shape and the engine looks really clean and well put together. Not a lot of loose wires and BS in there. I'd buy it, but not for what they're asking.

NISMO 350Z story and pics
I really think its time they pulled more power out of these cars. 330-350hp would be nice. With those silver ground effects on the red car, I can't help but think it kinda looks like a 3rd gen Camaro Z28.

New 280z Owner! Anything i should know?
Hello and welcome! I have a 77 280, and while I am far from having done it all I was also a first time owner 3 years ago and have learned a lot. One thing I did right away was get the breaks checked out. On a car this old, there is no telling how well maintained it was so it never hurts to check. Among other things my ball joints were in dire need of replacement. Those were some safety issues I had when I first got mine, and I would suggest looked them over or getting them checked out at a shop.

Black Pearl
He needs to shine up that valve cover. That would make that engine bay look amazing. Very nice looking car, its too bad they never made an actual performace special edition.

N47 Intake manifold correction
My 77 280Z and my 79 280ZX spare motor both have N47 heads. The one on IN my car does not have the webbing and the one on the 79 motor does. Of coarse neither is turbo, so I think the webbing means its off a 280ZX unless the 78 had webbing too.

Will this diff fit?
I haven't seen anyone use one of those in a S30 before. Can it work? i suppose its possible, but I really can't say. hybridz.com is probably a better place to look for this kind of info.

Put The Old Profiles Back??
After filling in my info, I think i kinda like the new one better.

My first in person sighting!
Wow, that would be something to see. Not too many exotic cars around here. There are 2 Ford GT's maybe 3 Vipers, a Lamborghini Diablo, and a Lotus Esprit V8. If you consider the Corvette Z06 rare, i guess there are a few of those too.

Put The Old Profiles Back??
Wow, I hadn't even noticed they changed it. When did they do that? Seems like a lot of work to re-do everything again.

My car needs premium, I'd rather it didn't.
In Kansas we sure do. Its leftover fuel from Oklahoma and the highest it goes is 91. In lots of other states like Indiana they have 93 for premium.

My car needs premium, I'd rather it didn't.
Not at a station, but the drag strip sell the purple 100+ octane racing fuel. Thats not the point though. Im trying to LOWER the level of octane the car needs. It does fine on 91, but i would prefer to run 87 and save that $0.20 per gallon difference.

They also re-surfaced the head, but they took off an absolute minimum. That was my assumtion that the new gasket, plus the shorter head may have raised compression, but who knows. The difference for filling up with premium over regular is only about $3 per fill up, but thats still almost an extra gallon of gas or a meal at Burger King. Every $3 adds up.

My car needs premium, I'd rather it didn't.
Ever since I replaced my head gasket last winter, my car has needed premium gas in order not to knock. With the recent gas prices I tried to put in midgrade (89) and the car did not like it one bit. It would hesitate and accelerate really rough and the knock was still there. Before I did the head gasket I was able to run regular 87 octane without issues, and now I have to run 91 or the car runs like crap. Could this be as simple as adjusting the timing? I did have to reset the timing when did the head gasket because I let the tensioner spring, but I made sure all the marks on the cam, crankshaft, and chain were lined up and used a light to set it. Would fooling around with the distributer help me out any? I'd just really lke to drive this every day again, but I can't do that with gas costing so much.

Whats your fuel economy?
Depending on the temperature I have done as good as 23mpg and as bad as 16. It will ususally be somewhere in there. It wouldn't be so bad if the car didn't demand premium. It used to be my daily driver, but I can't afford it right now and drive my Geo. Either way, 16-23 is MUCH better than the 6mpg it got the first time I drove it.

240z rear end clunk - differential?
That is exactly what mine did. Finally it gave out and I got a new one and replaced my diff entirely. I opened up the old one and if you look in my gallery, you can see the damage that was done. I drove mine in the same condition you describe from February to August, then one day it just blew. It stopped howling and just sounded like someone was beating the bottom of my car with a baseball bat.

How much is this worth...
$50 maybe?

daily driver
I'd really go for something newer. I have a 97 Geo Prizm that I drive when the weather isn't fair or gas is too much (like now.) I just saw a 95 5 speed sell for $1500 here in KS and I would highly reccomend getting one. They are nice cars and get up to 34mpg easily. They are pretty spacious and I have never had an issue with mine. A ZX might be fun, but I honestly can't believe any car thats 24+ years old is going to be THAT reliable. In the end, I think you would save a lot of money buying something thats a little more recent.

I am 100% certain that without this message board my car would either be dead or sold by now. I think its pretty safe to say I love this place.
