  1. Hi Mike, I have found that the exterior/interior combos on Zhome to be 100% accurate after seeing hundreds of 240Zs either in person or on the Internet, etc. The subject car is either a '71 or it's a '72 and its original red interior was changed to black, whether it was spray-painted with SEM or completely changed out. Whether it was changed out due to a fire, water damage or for some other reason, if it's indeed a '72, then it was definitely changed. If it turns out to be a '71 with incorrect hub caps, than the black would be right. Oemz still hasn't provided any of the car's VIN data, so it just a guessing game at this point.
  2. According to zhome.com, 904 White '72 240Zs only came with red interiors. Perhaps there is more to the salvage title than just the small accident. It could have gone into a body of water and the interior was changed out to black.

For you guys that have had their Z clocks repaired and refurbished by Ron, how long did it take before you received the clock back?

"24 Datsun 240Zs, in various conditions with extra parts, 1970-1973. $25,000. I will not sell some. This is a package deal. All or nothing. Call anytime at (661) 233-6276." "All or nothing"......I guess the seller doesn't want to waste a lot of time trying to sell each car individually. I agree with tlorber, $1k per car seems a little high, especially when you consider transportation. However, if the majority of the cars spent their entire lives in Southern California, they more than likely are pretty solid and don't have a much rust -it's really hard to tell from the picture. I'm sure if someone offered $18 to $20k for all 24, the seller would accept it.
  5. She's in great condition, especially for an East Coast car.
  6. I disagree with you to some extent, Zedyone_kenobi. 'Restomods' are gaining in popularity and going for big bucks. Have you checked out a recent Barrett-Jackson auction lately? I realize that we're talking primarily about American muscle cars, but I think in time imports will soon follow. I'm pretty much of a purist and all of my 240Zs have been stock, but to tell you the truth, the restomods have recently started to grow on me. Jared's car is the best of both worlds- you have the classic look of a near-stock 240Z on the outside restored to the 9s, but under the hood, you have a modern power plant that has so much more power and underneath a suspension with superior handling & braking than a stock 240Z. In my book, Jared's is the ultimate 240Z restomod and his 240Z is at the same level of what you see on Barrett-Jackson going at auction for close or above 6-figures. It might just be a little ahead of its time.

This sort of thing has happened a number of times over the past few years to the 240Z tab. I hope someone has a back up.
  9. I have always like the way the 240Z bumpers look on a 280Z when done right. One thing that I have never seen (in person or even a picture of) is a 280Z with 240Z bumpers, 240Z grille, 240Z lower front valences and the 240 turn signal lights mounted down below in the L and R valences instead of the standard 280Z turn signals mounted in the grill. As we all know, the big bumpers were an after-thought due to the US Federal safety regulations and the front turn signals were placed in the grill on the 280Z so they could be seen and wouldn't be blocked by the monster bumpers. This modification would make the 280Z look a lot cleaner, the way the S30 was originally designed.
  10. Beautiful car, it's definitely one of a kind.

Hi Kenny, The panel looks great! I've seen the 240Z reproduction skins before, but never with with new chrome strips. I wish they would make them in blue.
  12. This is very handy. Thanks, Mike!
  13. Adam, I would not buy this car if I were you. The old Zs rust from the inside out and there is probably a lot more rust in this car than what you can see in person or in the pictures.
  14. Hi Randy, I had to replace a tach with a dash cap in one of my previous 240Zs. The only way to get it out without pulling the dash cap off is break apart the tach (literally into pieces without damaging the cap) from the front side, making it smaller so you can then pull it out from the backside. You will then need to completely replace it with another tach by installing the new tach from the front side. Wish I knew a better way, but that's what I had to do it.
  15. I agree with cozye, buy a used one. I would add to cozye's advise and have it re-chromed -you will probably end up paying less than half of what a new OEM would cost.
  16. No offense, but I personally don't like the look of the big bumpers. As everyone knows, they were added due to U.S. federal regulations and they completely changed the look of the original S30 design. However, I know that you like the late '70s look and I think that the look of the early 260Z bumpers isn't a bad one, so it would be a good compromise between the 240 and the late 260/280 bumpers.
  17. It looks to be in pretty good shape, but it's tough to tell from the pictures if the car has any rust.

The car is in amazing original condition! I'm sure there are some collectors out there that would pay $20k for it.
  20. Guys, That's what the Classifieds on this website are for. Whether you are looking for a particular part or you're wanting to sell parts. Please keep this sort of thing off the forums.

Great find, Tiffanie! Only $500.00?.... that is an absolutely incredible price! It looks very solid and judging from the pictures, it does appear to be pretty rust-free. Only in California are you going to find a 240Z like yours for such a steal of a price. Realistically, if it's truly as solid as it appears, even though the car doesn't run, it's probably worth at least five times what you paid for it. In the Midwest and on the East Coast, it would probably go for even more than that. Good luck with your project and welcome!

The link just worked for me as well. I posted the pic in #10, as did Carl in post #21. Here's how the CL ad ran: "Near mint, original condition 100k miles, excellent history/records, recent service/parts, never wrecked. Metallic blue over black. All accessories are period correct and were Datsun Dealer installed, Webers, factory air-conditioning, Appliance wheels. I installed an Ansa exhaust system and also period correct Uniroyal 205/14” Tiger-Paws. $35,000 firm. Call 503-997-2221, for details on why this particular 240Z is worth $35 Grand and why the classic 240Z is important and valuable to other Datsun 240Z owners. You 240Z folks won’t be disappointed. Ask about article/story on 240Z. 503-997-2221"

If you're going to ask that kind of money, why on earth would you just limit your advertising to the local Craig's List?
  24. Here are some more pics from my visit to Erie Auto Salvage yesterday, an orange '71 and a blue '73:
  25. I was saddened to hear about Bill Renoad's passing after I read Dave Bond's posting back in June. He was the long time manager of Speedway Auto Wrecking and he was always very fair with me on the parts pricing. I bought a few parts off the blue 280Z with the white stripes shown in Post #6 of this thread (Speedway is also the same place with the pics of the '72 that was eventually crushed on Post #1 ). I went by Speedway today after an appointment I had in Greeley and it was all closed up. I also went to the yard to the west of Speedway -Erie Auto Salvage and bought a set of tail light harnesses out of the green '71 there (I've been looking for a good set for quite a while now). I spoke with the owner Ken Miller and asked him about Speedway and he said that the owner, Mr. Cochran sometimes opens it up on Saturdays, but the yard is still in limbo as Dave Bonds mentioned. Here are a few pics I took with my camera phone today of the green '71 while I was out at Erie Auto Salvage today before the tail light harnesses were pulled:
