240Z in movies
Ahhh yes I meant to post here that in Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo there is a racing Z in some scenes you don't really get to see it race but you do get to see it a few times. Looks good too
-
Very, very interesting--if true.
As good as it sounds I don't think it would apply for a Z. Besides I'd rather not leave my Z with some Grease Monkey at Nissan who doesn't know a Z from a Silvia But thanks for the heads up. Might come in handy with other car(s) i may own.

Sagamiko-30
Gives me ideas of making my fluted bonnet black just for the fun of it I hate the flutes so why not toy with it. I have a non-vented bonnet I'll make that a nice RED to match the rest of the car.

Just picked up 73 240z. Should I rebuild the L24 or swap to something else???
BTW I'm no expert on all this stuff I'm still learning I have a friend who is helping me out so he's teaching me as we go. Once it's all built and installed I'll be in a better position to comment on the best way to set the Z up N/A Style anyway.

Interesting I had always thought Rich made more power myself until a friend of mine said to tune the SU's on the leaner side as they are more powerfull that way. Maybe he was talking about extreme's I'm not sure.

If your interested in swaps you should check out www.hybridz.org they are more into "Swaps" than I myself and the others on this site. They do everything from 4 cylinder SR20's to Toyota 2JZE to Chevy V8's.

27th z!!!
Enjoy it chris if you ask me it's not about the money it's about the fact you have 26 & 27 that would be hard to find when they were new . The fact that they are both green and tan interior is a good example of how they built these cars.

tail light restoration
On topic of dying light lenses does anyone know if you can clean up old lenses and get them as good as new or do you have to have them redyed as NOS parts are getting very $$$ and European tail lights are very hard to get because all you naughty American's want somthing different !

Can you elaborate on why working on V-Dubs made you get a Datto? I'm just trying to work out what exactly your getting at

Side Stripe Sticker Kit for 240z
Hey Michael thanks for posting that interesting indeed. I'd say that this is because the stripe is a dealer option and not a factory option and therefore they have varied styles. Personally I like the one that says 240z that MSA sell I think that is the look i like most but I'm not overly fussed. Your probably right i could get them cheaper than $20 but creating the 240z would be the challenge and for $27 AUD it's not a huge deal for something I'd like to try out. I was thinking of creating it in sticky tape first just to get the idea of how it would look. I've just seen a few older cars lately with the original paint scheme's and sticker jobs like this and been inspired.

Side Stripe Sticker Kit for 240z
Interesting and well spotted. To be honest I prefer the MSA one it's a little more Mustang like. The photoshop job I did , I actually took the side stripe off the member Kats car and I would have thought he'd do his research and make sure he has the correct 1 if you know the member Kats and his car? Thanks for pointing it out but at $20 a set I think I'll probably give them a go

Yeah nah don't feel bad, I've been wanting to go the turbo route for some time and have scoured the internet for someone selling one cheap enough for me to import. However they are 20+ year old engines that most likely need a rebuild so it gets really expensive really quickly. Then an RB motor looks like the ticket I could get an RB26 for about $5000 here. However the plan has always been to keep it an L28 I just like the feel of the car how it is and wanna go the classic route. I've also seen how my mates non-turbo L28 goes with the mods he's done and I was suprised to say the least as to how quick it was. I'll give you a run down on what the motor will consist of but I can't give away all his secrets as that's how he makes money. Engine head : P90 with fairly aggressive port work. Carbs: Dual SU's, I'll be using early balance tube. Don't worry i never feel bad that we got all the good non emission stuff in Australia and not to mention the good early bumpers till 77. I guess it's all a trade off. N42 intake manifold which will be ported out same with the SU's they will get their throats bored out. Needles will be set up for a 3.0 - 3.1L but what some people don't realise is a lean mixture will give you power. I'm installing bigger valves than the already large P90 ones they will recieve the 3angle job etc. The camshaft is 76 degree's but I do not know the exact specs but my friend said his is a good mix that will give you lots of revs. This is where you make the power. The distributor is a special type that is hard to come by I do not know where and what car it comes off but am told they work the best. It's been recurved already to rev up to 9000rpm if I want it to. All mechanical advance. The bottom end is where I'm gonna get stuck for a bit. It's an F54 block, I will be using and LD28 crank but I am having trouble locating one in Australia I might have to pay $1000+ for this part ouch The connecting rods are either gonna be L24, L20B , L13 or L14 depending on what's available. Pistons stock Nissan flat tops. It should yield 11:1 comp ratio. All this and my goal is for 280HP then when i go with tripples maybe 330HP.

Ok well my turn ater reading all that. I'm a student doing Computer Science and Multimedia Software Development. I have learnt alot of cool stuff over my years. I would like to either specialise in game programming and design or webpage development and design. However there are other areas that I am interested in such as networking and 3d animation. I work part time in a call centre which I hate but am putting up with it for now as I'm almost finished with Uni for a year or so. I have been contemplating doing mechanical engineering since I love cars so much but I figure I'll finish my degree first and see how things pan out.

I'm not going Turbo because here in Australia it's not as economical as it is over there. I'm also sticking the an N/A motor because it's not as troublesome and less things can go wrong. So that only really applies to those who are reading in the US or Canada my motor isn't done yet but when it is I'll be sure to let others know ~what power she makes and how much it cost.

Polyeurethane Bushings- to squeek or not squeek
Frank dunno if that will work for a long time but it's a funny idea let us know if it works still in a couple of years . I have no squeaks in my Z but then again my Z is that loud you couldn't hear squeaks anyway. I'd say you need to do as the others say grease them up.
-
Would you pay $3M for this?
Maybe I have the wrong opinion but I've never understood the whole do not restore the car attitute. Sure the old Rally Z's look cool beat up but why not fix them up as they were the day they started the race? I believe it's the same here it looks pretty rough and worthless how it is why not give the girl the original shiny paint job she once had? It's like buying an old house and not fixing it up leaving it with a leaky roof why do that? :S
