Nissan Driving simulator
Get the google tool bar for IE (and/or) type the web address into the search and click go or whatever. When it finds the page, click translate this page and Hey Presto you get the page in english. It makes enough sense to be able to work out the meaning of the page. works for any text based web page. So having done that the password for the zip file is "www.nissan szene.de" Mr C

starting an engine that has sat 4 years...
Yeah once you get the engine running there's other stuff to worry about if the car hasn't moved for 4 years. Most importantly stoping! You'll wanna check your brakes are working and the pistons havent jammed up, and that there is no leaks either. Mr C

Horsepower vs. Torque?
From a website (that probably copied from anoter website or a book): horsepower: James Watt (1736 - 1819) observed that the average horse of his time could move a 550 pound weight one foot in one second, thereby performing work at the rate of 550 foot pounds per second, or 33,000 foot pounds per minute, for an eight hour shift, more or less. He then published his observations, and stated that 33,000 foot pounds per minute of work was equivalent to the power of one horse, or, one horsepower. foot-pound: One foot-pound is the amount of force required to move one pound one foot torque: The turning power of a shaft foot-pound of torque: One foot-pound of torque is the rotational force necessary to support a one pound weight one foot from the fulcrum of a weightless bar A full rotation of a one pound weight one foot from the fulcrum of a weightless bar is equivalent to moving that weight 6.2383 feet [radius ® of the circle = 1 foot & circumference = 2Pi x r ] and therefore equates to 6.2382 foot pounds of force You do the math! Also, Power measured in Kilowatts (kW) Torque measure in Newtonmeters (Nm) For all the non imperial speaking countries Mr C

Horsepower vs. Torque?
Horsepower is a measure of power. Torque is a measure of rotational force.

'73 bonnet/hood
Hi Halz If it's bonnet with vents in it and it's a factory original bonnet then it would be a bonnet from a 280z turbo which had vents in it to let the heat out. so yeah it could be a "rare factory fluted bonnet" but it's not original equipment on a 240z. 280z with the vented bonnet (hood)

I Give Up!
Have you set the points gap correctly. it should be .45 to .55 millimeters on a no emission controll engine or I think .30 to .40 on cars with emission controll gear. Might be a problem with the balast restistor (i think Z's have them), check there's a circuit through it. Hmm, what else, fuses, voltage regulator??? anyone got any ideas. Probably would have been easier to take it to a mechanic to find out what was wrong first before spending the cahs on a new coil, battery, plugs wires, rotor...etc.

Would you pay for a poster of your car?
That would be inches, since they are in America. Even in Australia photos are still reffered to in inches.

240Z in movies
A 240z features very prominately in the movie Capricorn One, about How the USA faked a mission to Mars, and planned to kill the astronaults and say they got killed during re-entry to Earths atmosphere. Based on the conspiracy theory about man never really landing on the moon. It's stars Elliot Gould, and at the end of the movie he's rushing around in a 240z. (might be a 260 or a 280, but its the 240z shape, not a 2+2) Inner space, features a wicked mustang, but in the background of one fo the scenes you see a 240z going by. and I saw an episode of sliders, and I'm pretty sure they blew up a dastun roadster. Bad people, that they are. Mr C

street racing tips?
1) Just get used to your car. see how high to rev the engine an how quickly to let the clutch out, without either staling it or geting too much wheel spin. clutches were invented for a reason. hold first gear right up to 4000rpm, at least. 2) it was probably an auto. there's a reason professional drag racers have autos, not manuals, and there's no reason to take your foot off the gas in an auto. 3) again just get used to your car, workout where the powerband is. peak power will probably be between 4500 and 5500 rpm, for a stock engine, so that's when you'll want to be changing gear. 4) Get a bank loan to pay for all the new parts you'll be needing when the old parts start breaking And 5) Get life insurance so your family can bury you when you kill yourself.:dead: It's fun to beat someone off the line at the traffic lights, but when you get up to the speed limit the race is over. what's a chevelle? 2+2 vs 2 Seaters
Really. I've never heard that before. I know that the 240z was developed originally as a convertible to replace the roaster/2000 sports or whatever it was called in the country you live in, and the develpment of the convertible continued alongside the development of the coupe for some time (in the design studio at least). They even toyed with the idea of a mid engine coupe. Some of those early designs were very ugly (i've got photos to prove it). You should be glad the 240z looks the way it does, and the 2+2 looks great compared with some of the prototypes. I think the best angle to look at a 2+2 it from directly in front, ............so you dont notice that it's a 2+2! Mr C

260z is it a good car?
Is this car a 2 seater or a 2 plus 2? ie, does it have a back seat. If it's a 2+2 I'd keep looking for a 2 seater. But that's just me, I'm not a big fan of the 2+2's shape, but mechanically its the same car. Mr C

Swapping a SR20DET in a ZED???
If you're gonna go a complete engine swap for a efi turbo engine, why not stick with a 6 cylinder and put a RB25DET in it? There's photos in the photo section of a FJ20 in a 240z. Mr C

clutch slipping
And if you dont have a clutch aligning tool, you can get the clutch plate as central as you can, by using a dowel (or piece of round wood, even better if you turn it on a lathe to match the input shaft), leaving the presure plate just tight enough for you to be able to move the centerplate, but hold it in place. Then slide the gearbox on to check you can get it on, then rip it off again and tighten the pressure plate bolts back up. If you leave the gearbox in gear you can turn the input shaft by rotating the other propshaft end of the gearbox. Hey it always works for me. and if you going to all this trouble, replace the spigot bearing also. That's the little bearing in the flywheel. pack it full of grease, and using a dowel thats a tight fit in the hole, hammer the dowel in. The hydrolic force will push out the bearing. I'm sure hmsports has a picture of one to post Mr C

Atmospheric Supercharging???
Maybe someone should pay Mr Greene a visit and ask for a test drive of his atmospheric supercharged 240z "GTO" His address as listed on his patent application of his "Motion acoustic holgragh" patent no 5,627,319 is: 29301 Carmel Rd., Sun City, CA 92586 (in 1996/7) This information is freely available on the us patent site - Link to patent: http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=/netahtml/search-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=pall&s1='5,627,319'&OS="5,627,319"&RS="5,627,319" sounds like lights and mirrors, and his webpage sound like BS. And the 240z was inspired by porsche, not ferarri. The guy that was part of the early design work wanted to make the 240z based on the overall dimensions of the 911. He used to work for bmw I believe, and porsche and was responsible for the design of the datsun silvia. (sp311?), but left nissan/datsun long before the zed was put into production...or so I read somewhere. go to: zhome.com/History/history.html and learn. It's a really interesting read. Mr C.

clutch slipping
Ah, Alfadog. So young and so much to learn. Hmm, Yoda you seek. Teach you he, will in the ways of automechanics. Yep its when the clutch plate (the round discy looking thingo made out of brakepad type stuff, I recommend you pull your gear box off and have a look at it.... no not really) slips because there isn't enough clamping force (from the pressure plate against the flywheel) to stop it from slipping. You see the clutch plate is the only thing conecting the engine's rotational force to the input shaft of the of the gearbox (by clamping it agaonst the rotating fluwheel), and if that's slipping you may as well be driving an automatic with all the rpm your wasting. Note: clutch plates (sometimes/usually) have a wrong way and a right way to be installed. i.e. they have a side that must be facing the fylwheel and a side the has to face the pressure plate, because sometimes the sprocket thingo that the geabox input shaft goes into usually protrudes more from the pressure plate side than the flywheel side. Am I right? That what I remember from my celica and my mazda. Not sure if datsuns are the same, as I never replaced the clutch on my Z, but I suspect they would be. Not sure what would happen if you put it in the wrong way around either. Mr C.
