  1. Hey Matt, looks good. What is the stuff along the bottom of the doors and fenders. Looks like aluminum or stainless molding of some kind. Chris
  2. Congratulations!! How about some pictures of the new toy? Chris

I realize it's not Christmas time but I forgot I had this on the computer. http://load.pquinn.com/binaries/fries/ HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY! Chris
  5. How's the car run? My L24 went about that many miles and the valve stem seals let go. The chain looked good but I replaced it anyway. I've heard about chain stretch and all but never seen it on an L series motor. I've run Z cars for 20 years and never had a failure. I have heard that if the oil fed tensioner inside the front cover fails then you'll have trouble. Much luck, Chris
  6. Hey webdawg, the next time you see a Snap On or Mac Tools truck stop in and visit them. They can get almost any tool. I have seen what you're describing on the Snap On truck that comes to my shop. I use a large set of slip jaw pliers to remove the nut on my stuff. Snap On has a "Catridge Nut Tool" which removes OEM and aftermarket nuts on most OEM Datsun/Mazda/Toyota vehicles. Fits 51/54/55 and 58mm nuts. Snap On number WMS1. Good luck man! Chris
  7. Hey Steve, my bad on the ZX, it was 135 hp. I'm 100% on my wife's 280Z, I worked on it so much the tag is burned into my memory. I'm going by the salvage yard this weekend where they have every year of 280Z and some 280ZX's. I'll try and get some more info. Chris
  8. The data plate on my wife's 75 280Z said 170 HP. And I believe the ratings were in GROSS horsepower not NET like they are now. The 280ZX was tagged as 149 hp NET. And I thought there were no changes in the motor when it went from the 280Z to the 280ZX. I think there's a good explanation of the ratings on www.zhome.com. Chris
  9. Hey Marc, you have a buddy who's got an impact gun? Get his gun and use an air bubble to burp that bolt outta there. Much luck, Chris
  10. Wish we knew how many R's it was turning when it let go.:stupid: Chris
  11. Attaboy Bill, you just keep doing the right things!! Like Rick said you dont hit a women which is why I put up with my mother beating me till I was 15. Then out into the real world I went. Its amazing that some people will rent an apartment (shithole) to a 15 year old kid who's still in high school and has a part time job. Thank God they did. I grew up fast. And I think I turned out all right too. Worked the same job for 14 years now, my own house, married for 13 years, 8 month old son, etc etc. With your wit and a good head on your shoulders Bill, you'll be fine. Chris
  12. So right Bill. Some people should never have kids. I feel for you Bill, no six year old deserves broken ribs. I can't imagine you or anybody doing anything to deserve that kind of abuse. Chris PM coming to you.

Looks like Stephen (sblake01) has bid on it. Chris
  14. Change the tranny and diff lube then see if you still have the noise. Check the drained fluid for metal bits. Chris
  15. Hey Eric, see my reply to this thread you started. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&goto=newpost&threadid=13824 Chris
  16. Hi Eric, is your thermostat the rotary control type with a capillary tube extending down to the evaporator? If so you can go to your local Mack Truck Dealer and order number 4379-RD41720. This is a variable thermostat with a range of 34 to 52 degrees and has a 27 inch tube. It wont be exactly like yours but it should work. Current price is between $19.77 and $22.90 depending on if they give you a good deal or not. Although that's not much of a price difference. Ed is right, no 240Z came with factory air and I have seen two different control pods in the cars. Much luck, Chris
  17. Hey Vicky, from what I've read in HOT ROD and the other mags of the same type, 427 is attainable from a 400 small block chevy with the right bore and stroke and an aftermarket crank. Same old small block Chevy but pumped up to crazy power levels. I can't think of the brand names but I've seen some ads for "new" Chevy small blocks in a wide variety of sizes. 383/406/410/427...it boggles the mind that the aftermarket supports all the different varieties of Chevy stuff. Chris P.S. I actually read an article in I think CarCraft a few years ago where they built a 427 small block and called it the "Mighty Mouse". (Because big block Chevy's are called Rats)

The flat side of the seal should face out towards the drive shaft. Chris
  19. Just got my August edition of Hot Rod. It did a story on the "Pump Gas Drags" They invited 50 of the fastest street cars running pump gas. 41 showed up. Mark Eggers of Clearwater Florida wound up 31st. Here's the story verbatim. "Coulda, shoulda, woulda: Mark Eggers' combo of a 2,840 pound Nissan Z-car stuffed with 427 cubic inches of Motown small-block had the potential to take it all. Just two weeks before HOT ROD's Pump Gas Drags, it had run 9.35-second average e.t.'s to capture the True Street win at a Pro Edelbrock race-that's a quicker average than this year's Pump Gas Drags winner. Unfortunately, on the Memphis starting line the car bit more than it could chew: a two-bounce wheelie on the first pass did in the oil pan, and the resulting leakage prevented a third pass." The poor guy ran a 14.62 at 65.84 then ran a 9.25 at 146.38 before the oil pan stopped him. The winner was a 67 Chevelle that ran an average of 9.40 at 141. Would have been nice for the Z to beat up on all those others. Oh well, even though I dont like V8 conversions it was nice to see a 240Z in HOT ROD. The picture shows him doing " The Most Violent Wheelstand" He's quoted as running a best of 9.10 at 149. That's fast. Chris Attached picture better than one of holeshot
  20. Hey Zwolley, I dont think anyone who's responded to this thread "advocates physical punishment" as you put it. We are merely stating how it was for us. I can tell you stories if you'd like but this isnt the place. I do carry the scars of abuse so you're preaching to the choir. Being married to a great gal who just happens to work for the state's Child Protective Services Department and has a degree in psychology and has worked with abused children for 13 years, I have learned a thing or two about how to raise a child. Chris
  21. Respect is a learned behavior. You learn it by watching others who are respectful. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Chris
  22. Hey Alfadog, it just one of those Septic sayings!! You make some good points for a 19 year young!! Chris
