What is "backfiring"?
Ah, awesome. It's not doing any *real* damage then, it's only a pop and splutter backfire, so no real chance of buldging out the muffler or anything. I was more interested in the cause and I think I know why now! Thank you Goerge, Alan and Mike! p.s. yes it is when I was not touching the accelerator down a hill and the sounds come from the exhaust. Sounds kinda cool anyway, in a rally car kinda way

Does this guy know what he is writing about
The moral of the story? Buy a car magazine!!!

What is "backfiring"?
The Z... I think it might have something ot do with not enough back pressure in the exhaust system??? It's just annoying me that I dont know why it happens.

What is "backfiring"?
Ahh OK... so... why does it only happen when I go down a hill? I only have to go down hills when I pick up a friend who lives up a mountain, so it's no biggy

What is "backfiring"?
Hi Backfiring is something that I know about but I'm not 100% sure of WHY it happens and HOW it can be bad for your engine. My car backfires a bit when I am at 3000 or over going down a hill... it sounds kinda cool but I'm not sure how bad it is, if it is at all? Could someone please explain for me and probably some others here too what the cause(s) are for backfiring engines?

Yeah, most of the Z's there were modified - a couple of stockers but most were modified fairly heavily! Very nice!!

Brisbane Easter Z Car Nationals
Yeah I am sure that stuff along the side could be original. What I'm saying is it's ugly and ruins the lines of the car. Don't you make precious into a shopping trolley!!!! :finger:

How far can I get with this.
The L engines are unstoppable. In a (lightened) 260Z shell I've seen an L26 do low 10 second quarter miles............ the shell was totally stripped out of course but wasn't tubbed or anything. That's pretty good for a 30 year old engine...

Freedom
Please let's not turn this one into a debate too.... Very moving story owen, let's all hope the freedom granted by the brave men and women who fought over there will be appreciated.

280Z ehaust suggestions
I've got 2.25" with single Lukey muffler at the tail and mine sounds great But then again I'm one of those "young" people who like to have to turn up the stereo full-bull just to hear it over the exhaust note At idle he sounds fairly lopey (compared to newer engines) and at 1000 he sounds smooth and nice. At 2000 if you are pushing any petrol in, it will resonate pretty badly (to the extent where you think you might be in a 4-cylinder! :tapemouth ) and then when you reach 2500 it's very quiet. 3000 he's loud and throaty and 4000 he's screaming and wanting more. 5000 he starts to feel a bit breathless and I don't make a habit of going that far, let alone beyond...... I can't talk on the highway, but I say if you want a quiet car get a Merc (that's Mercedes for you yanks, not Mercury)

Fairlady Zg
Sell your car, sell your house, sell your soul and sell your daughters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If it's real... If it's just a good replica, you probably won't have to sell your soul. I'm sure Alan knows several *other* distinctions between the two, other than the chassis number. You'd want to make sure it's the real deal before you buy I'm sure...

350z Roadster - new info!
I think it would look silly having someone's head poking out from underneath that fat convertible... it'd be like one of those caddy cruisers from the 50s where you can hardly see the person inside......... hard top please
