Low Octane Fuel and Knocking
I have driven it only 1300 miles since I got the car. I have been all over the place from 87 octane to 94 octane. I am trying to figure out if the gas gauge works so I often top off the tank for fear of running out of gas. It seems to read near empty a lot sooner than I would expect. So I end up mixing grades. But with gas prices skyrocketing, I have been getting 87 octane recently. This run on only seems to happen now that I stick with 87. Thanks

Oh My...
That sure is different!

Low Octane Fuel and Knocking
Maybe this is the wrong place to post this, but here goes. I am using 87 octane and when I drive my 240z for about 45 minutes to work and then turn it off, the car continues to run for a little while. Every once in a while it gives a rather loud backfire then finally comes to a stop. Should I be using highedr octane?

Car Cover - Any Thoughts
Unfortunately I am going to have to move my Z out of the garage and into the driveway. I think I need to get a cover for it. Since I live in the north, it will get snowed on. Does anyone have any suggestions on which brands and/or types would be the best get? Thanks.

Car Seat Replacements - New Z owner
Thanks for the input. I have decided to use replacement covers. I got the first one on OK. I am still trying to get one of the screws off of the other seat bottom so I can recover it. That screw won't budge. I have soaked it in Liquid Wrench and WD 40. Tapped it with a hammer. It will not budge. Any ideas how to free that one?

Speedometer Cable Swap '73 in a '71?
Is it possible for me to place a 1973 speedometer cable into my 1971 240z? Does it matter if it was manual or an automatic. Thanks!

Rubber and Hoses Replacement question
I need to replace all of the rubber hoses - well all of the rubber period. What is the best way to oreder these parts. I can order them one at a time. I thought if someone sold a kit, it would be a lot easier. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Car Seat Replacements - New Z owner
What is involved in switching out the rollers? Is that something a begining car guy can do with some muscle (have that) or is that welding type stuff?

Car Seat Replacements - New Z owner
My 240z needs to get some new seats. I have read all of the seat posts. It seems like many different seats will fit. My problem is that I can not weld and I am on a tight budget. What seats can I just swap out with out doing any additional work to fit them in my car. I know that I can use other 240z seats. It seems like I can also use 260z and 280z seats. Does anyone know of any other seats that I can do a swap without doing any alterating? Thanks.

Speedo Bouncing
I will try these steps but I think my cable is worse off then what I have read. It seems as if a squirrel or something chew through the rubber and the metal wire around the cable. Should I just try to get a new cable? Does anyone have an idea of how much they go for? Thanks.

Brand new Z owner - Door Lock Question
Thanks for all of your help. I am now able to lock my passenger door and was able to apply a lot of force to get the rear hatch open. The hatch is a lot better now. The driver door is still causing problems. I will try to lube everything there and see how it goes. There are a couple of nuts on one of the rods. Does anyone think that I should adjust these? Thanks again.

Brand new Z owner - Door Lock Question
Sorry for what is probably a really silly question. I just got my first Z. I am trying to read the older posts so I don't repeat any questions and I did not see this covered. I am able to open my doors with the door handle. However I can not lock either door. I have tried using the key and pushing the lock down. I have removed one of the door panels and I can see most of the lock mechanism, but I can not see what is preventing it from locking. I was just going to spray a bucnh of WD-40 in there and hope that it loosened something up. Does anyone have any other ideas? Also I can not open the hatch. I tried turning the key and pushing the button in. It will not open. Any ideas on this one? Thanks a bunch.

Introduce yourself to the class?
Hello all! I am 36, with 3 kids 15 months, 4 years and almost 6 years old. I just bought my first Z 3 weeks ago and I am still trying to get it shipped to me (it is killing me - the wait) from AZ to PA. Zs rule. I always wanted one. Why not get the original? Could not find a suitable series 1 so I got a 71 1/2. I am 100% Z. LOVE THE Z. Although I still have not seen the one I bought. Also have a 2002 Kia Sedona (family car), 1992 Maxima bought new - this car has 163,000 miles with 0 work on it, `1986 Buick Century - this rules as my deceased grandfather used to own it, and a 1991 Honda NightHawk 750 (old toy). My other love is IFOCE.com. Trying my hardest to make it to the World Hot Dog eating championship on 7/4/2003. Later

No mention of rust on this
There is a nice 240z on ebay. I do not know a lot about them, but I have been researching them. I just bout a 1971 1/2 that I have not yet received. When shopping I stopped by to look at this car. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6187&item=2418523199 He was asking $7,900.00 for it in his classified ad. I used the info that I learned on the web and checked the car out for rust. I saw a dime sized hole underneath the back left fender in the structural metal. A bunch of older rust that was treated - I guess, then painted. I think that because the interior is very sharp and he 'took such good care' of it he did not think to mention that rust. It is a great car, but from my research I would put it at $4-5,000. I did not want to make him an offer as I did not want to insult him and his opinion of the car. I guess this is why buying a car on ebay could have its downfalls. But you never know, I just bought one sight unseen (lots of pictures) from a classified ad. I hope whoever buys this is not disappointed, but then again, they bid, so I guess it is on them. Super interior though. 70 manufacturer date.
