Which engine is this!?
They didn't use the CA's in the trucks here. More than likely it's a Z22S or a Z24S which is the NAPS engine. It's also a 'twin plug slug' as you say. Built more for emissions compliance than performance. I had a 1980 200SX with a Z20E. Same engine except smaller and fuel injected. By the way Dave, NAPS stands for Nissan Anti Pollution System not Nissan Air Pollution System.

There's a little more to the distributor you're describing. That 'small black module' you describe isn't a module, it's just a junction block. The actual 'module' that goes with that distributor is actually the transistor ignition unit (E12-27) that mounts under the dash on the passsenger side just ahead of the fusebox in a 280Z. You could use that setup but you'd need all the parts and you'd have to know how to do the wiring. You'd be better off with a ZX distributor.

Long time Z owner
Not to mention what appears to be factory Datsun Comp headlight covers.....hang on to those! (or sell them to help finance your project) I can't get there with the hood bulge, fender mirrors, chrome wiper arms(?), and Appliance wire wheels, and the sunroof, but the rest of the car has potential.

Ignition Switch Problem!
That's good advice but I'm sure that 911Guy has solved his problem since it was over a year and a half ago. For whatever reason, rzkas chose this old thread as one of six places to ask the same question which has nothing to do with the subject of this one.

73 240z stock ignition, intermittent problem
I would hope by now that the author of this thread has solved his problem. This was a 6 year old thread until rzkas awakened it.

Ignition Switch Problem!
Okay I don't know what the problem with your car is because you really haven't given much information. Two things; I'd forget the stereo and the 'racing' (whatever you mean by that), until you solve the main problem. And why do you think that you needed to post this question(?) in 6 different threads?

EI in my 73
Did it come out of a 77-78? With the large module that goes under the dash? Or is is a ZX distributor with the E12-80 module on the side of the diistributor?

Any Comments on GMB Water Pump?
GMB A 150-1160. I bought one of those when I replaced the radiator in my 810 in 2005. I haven't had a problem with it yet. I bought mine from Kragen and it has a lifetime warranty.

scrap law,s... HELP!
We have similar laws here. That's why I didn't really get WingZrO's response. Doesn't matter how 'cool' the people that work in the junkyards are, if there is an order from the DMV (somewhat equivalent to your DVLA, I'm sure) or some other county or city authority, it has to be scrapped. Those cars that fall in that catagory here aren't even made available to the public at the junkyards here.

Anyone using Datsun Competition Sparkplug Wires?
Me too. All three of them. NGK wires, NGK plugs.

Anyone using Datsun Competition Sparkplug Wires?
This is their description: I'm pretty sure I have a set of those somewhere also that I bought years ago and never used.

Rear bumper shield 77
Oh, the 'sightshield' as Nissan called it. Sorry about that. You did say the 'shield over the bumper' so I badly misinterpreted that. The corners are flush with the bottom of the tail light finisher opening and the center is about 1/2 below the opening. Would a picture help? Mine has never been hit so I'm sure it's where it's supposed to be.

Anyone using Datsun Competition Sparkplug Wires?
Is the number on that 99996-E2020?. The old catalogs said 'race only'. Don't know how those will act in a street car but you'll probably here lots of noise in your stereo.

FYI: "Y70" Maxima/810 flywheel located
I wonder how much difference there is between that flywheel and the ones used in the 6 bolt crank four cylinder cars like the L20B or the Naps-z.

Gas Info...BS or Helpful?
As far as when to or not to fill up, that it the only part of this that I have heard over the years and it seems to make sense and I won't fill up if I see the truck at the station. There is some logic to the temperature based statements and they make sense as well as the half full/empty statements though I've never really given much thought to that. I'll sidestep the political statement.

Craigslist got these rims if you want?!?!?
I'm aware of those, they're on my car. But based on all I've ever seen or read, they were a dealer installed option in the US.

Someone asksed the same basic question about a 78 the other day. If you talking about that bumper bar type thing, that was a dealer add on/aftermarket add on. There's not set spot or template for something like that. Just line it up to where you think it looks best and mount it.

Craigslist got these rims if you want?!?!?
Everyone, repeat after me: THEY ARE NOT STOCK! The only wheel 'stock' on a 78, or any S30 in the US, was a steel wheel with a hubcap. Even the Nissan factory S30 alloy wheel (the one that some people like to call 'Black Pearl' wheels) were dealer installed. montanagrl, the wheels in your avitar, the front spoiler, the stripes or side moldings (I can't tell which they are) are all dealer/aftermarket items. Just like the front and rear spoiler, rear window louvers, and 'factory alloy' rims on mine. Not 'stock' but commonly put on the cars either by the dealers themselves (Nissan items) or by some local shop contracted out by them (non-Nissan items).

Battery or alternator?
That trick works and I'll admit that I've used it quite a few times but it also has margin for error. e.g.: Much safer to use a voltmeter with the positive probe on the the 'B' terminal and the negative probe on the 'E' terminal on the alternator and read it while the car is running with the high beams on. Under 12.5 volts, no good. Over 12.5 volts at idle and over 14 volts at 2400 rpm, good.
-
Battery or alternator?
Don't do that! I know it's an age old trick but you're just asking for more problems when you do that. Especially if you put it back on while the car is still running. There is an alternator test procedure in the the FSM.

FYI: "Y70" Maxima/810 flywheel located
I have two of those as spares plus the ones in my 810 and Z. They're really not worth $75 for a used one. I picked up the ones I have have for $25 ea at the junkyard IIRC. In fact the one I put in my Z was less than that because it was during one of their 1/2 price days. Plenty of Maximas in the junkyards out here. People take the crankshafts from the diesels but for some reason they forget about the lighter (somewhat) flywheel. -Y7000 is the OEM number for the 810 and -Y7056 is the OEM number for the 910 (Maxima) but it's the same flywheel.

Wow.. havent been on in like 2 years..
If you're talking about the "Iron Cross" rims, I polished those. I sold them to him a few years ago. I notice that they aren't on the car in the later pictures. I'm sure the car needed more rim than that with all that power. Here's what they looked like on my car back when I lived in Fontana.
