Roberts Competition's Exhaust
Little late to the conversation, but here is my 2cents. I purchased the entire system when I bought my car in 1979 from Bob Sharp Datsun. I ran the system until 89, when it go so loud, and I was able to purchase a Abarth system for the car ( which I still run). I kept the headers and had a adapt to the original Clifford header. I have contact Clifford a few times about reproducing the dual system again, and as you have heard, not going to happen. I was told it would be cheaper to have a local shop do it. Well, fast forward to 2008, and I get a PM from Arne about a guy in Medford Oregon, who had a 240z exhaust system for sale on craigslist. As it turns out, he had already sold the header, but had the tail sections, new in the box! I got a hold of him and purchase the entire thing for $100. Thanks to this forum, and guys like Arne, dreams do come true....... Anyway, I was thinking I could get someone to reproduce the tail sections off of the original system, that way I could run the reproduction and keep the original. That way, others that might be interested in running this system could do so. I am not sure about finding a header that will match, but I would be interested in that too, as mine has been on the car for a long time, but works great!!! Anyway, Let's see how much interest there is in reproducing these things! Enjoy, Bob

Best "performance" tire for a 70 240z
Thanks for the reply. No, I actually like Les Scwabs service, but I have never actually bought tires for any of my sports cars there. Actually, I went to Goodyear today for tires for my Jeep, and started thinking of tires for the Z. In the past, for my Fiats ( which also use a strange size 13" tire) , I have used Tire Rack and others. By the way, THANKS SO MUCH for the lead on the exhaust system. It was new in the box and is now home with me! Maybe I will have a shop reproduce it if others are interested!!!! Thanks, Bob

Best "performance" tire for a 70 240z
HOWDY, I currently have some old BFG Radial TA's on my 70 240z, that I am thinking of replacing. First of all, my car is a stock 240z with Nissan European Springs, MSA sway bars, KYB struts, on stock 280zx wheels ( see attached). The current tires are 195/70-14, but I am not that happy with them. Any suggestions on some decent tires? What sizes are you all running? Thanks in advance, Bob

What's in YOUR garage?
Well, after spending all it's time in the garage, the 240 got moved to driveway, for the next week. I sold my X1/9 this past summer, for a "big" Fiat. Currently my Fiat 850 spyder and a new addition, a 1989 Ferrari 328. So that is what bumped the z outside. The Fiat goes to the warehouse next week, and the z goes back in the garage with the 328. Daily drivers, 04 Grand Cherokee and 90 Cherokee remain out in the snow and weather all year, until I can build a shop behind the house. By the way, after having the Ferrari for a bit, it has made me appreciate my 240z even more. I really thought I would start to lose interest, not true. I thought I would sell it, but I hope I don't have to. Folks, keep those 240z's, they are very impressive sports car. If you don't have one yet......GET ONE NOW. Enjoy, RG

Anza muffler picture?
BKelly, Let me know what you want for your ANZA. What twice pipe set up are you going with? Thanks, Bob

Anza muffler picture?
So, I don't think I am going to do a dual exhaust on my z, I was thinking of a ANZA muffler. I have a Abarth muffler with dual tips that has been on the car for 15 years, that I put on to replace the factory dual system. I still have the factory header. Does anyone have a picture of a Anza muffler? Thanks in advance, Bob

Part # for 240Z windshield??
After dealing with the series one original glass, that was pitted and I could barely see out of it, it cracked ;-( So, my insurance company paid for a replacement that was a PPG and it only cost me $50. I did have them replace the gasket too. I did remove the wipers, the dash trim and visors, so there was no chance of damage from the install. You should of heard the words coming out of the installer when he was putting in the chrome trim. However, the upper passenger side corner was damaged, and now I need to find one of those!!! Sure looks great looking through a clear window after 29 years!!! ENJOY THE RIDE.... Bob

Series 1- Cold air, brrrr. Cable adjustment?
Hi, Took my '70 240 for a spin last night, and cool air came out the center vent, while the heater was on! I assume there is a adjustment on one of the cables, as the heat came out both the defroster and lower heat vents, but as I drove on the hwy, the cool air came through the center vent. Any ideas where I should look first? Thanks in advance! Bob:squareeye

Double Glasspacks as Mufflers?
Someone would remake that original dual exhaust, it was sold through Nissan, made by Clifford and sold through all sorts of dealers. Even had the optional megaphone replacement section. I think I bought my through Bob Sharp's parts department. I contacted Clifford Research awhile back about the header and the exhaust system, and they had no interest in it. Maybe someone at MSA could get someone to reproduce it, instead of their current "twice pipe" It was loud and used two stock hangers off the diff crossmember with two glasspacks stacked going out the back......chrome tips.... Boy those were the days. Right now I am running a Clifford header, with a Abarth muffler with twin tips out the back. Sounds ok, but it muffler will need to replaced soon, and it's not like I can get another Abarth muffler anywhere....

Who will be at the Datsun Driving Canby Fun event?
Can someone send me the link to the Canby event? I know that the Bend area group has made it over to Blue Lake, but I did not know about the event in Canby. Might be a good reason to go for a drive...... Thanks Bob Sunriver, OR

Heater Control Panel- What year?
Hi there, Digging through the garage to get rid of some stuff on ebay, and came across what I think is 1973 heater/control. I know that the 70-72 had a black, non-back lite heater control, but I believe the 1973 did. Did the 260z use the same one? I want to put it up on ebay, but don't want to list it for a '74 if that is incorrect. I know some people were putting them earlier cars so they would have the back light on the heater control. Any idea what they are worth as far as a reserve? Found all sorts of odd ball stuff, now if I could just find something I was actually looking for......... BobLOL

Fog Lamps
Kats, Thanks for the information. Can you let me know roughly what size those factory fog lights are? Also, where did they mount? I assume to the bumper. Your web site is a wealth of great information. Thanks so much for sharing. Love the blue car. My first experience was with a blue care with the white racing stripe. When I went to buy my early z, I just missed out on a blue car and ended up with a silver one on my way home..... Thanks, Bob:)

Fog Lamps
Thanks for the link, that clears it up. So, the early cars never had any kind of front driving light? Enjoy the ride, Bob

Fog Lamps
Does anyone have a good picture of the stock lights that are listed in my factory wiring diagram and is switched at the choke plate area. I can't say I have ever seen how this was done. I believe/ or led to believe this was a option on the overseas cars. Thanks, Bob

Original interiors of series 1 cars
None of the early cars that I have worked on have had screws in the door panels. I grew up in California. Even my collection of early 240z dealer pictures, never show screws in the door. My series one 240 (HLS30-18410) does not have screws ( I am second owner). It does have the chrome round hangers. I think the screws must of been added by PO or dealers? Bob:squareeye

240Z Header Recommendation
I wonder if there was enough interest in headers and the dual exhaust system that Nissan sold back in the 70's, if Clifford Research would reproduce these for us that want a performance system, but want to keep something original? I did talk to them earlier in the week about the headers, and they were going to check the old stock. I have the header, but would love to go back to the dual system. When I talked to them, they were saying it was hard to compete with all the systems out there at the time, plus muffler shops doing some thing. There system was great, and modular and you could install it with out going to the muffler shop. Any interest? Bob

240Z Header Recommendation
I too like the dual exhaust, but the early systems either had the megaphone output with no glass packs or glass packs stacked so they would fit the single output on the drivers side. It would have two chrome tips right on top of each other going out where the stock muffler was located. I am not sure why the MSA dual system also has them side by side? I need to look at my old Nissan Motorsport catalog to see if there is a good picture. The megaphones would attach where the glass pack section came off.........

240Z Header Recommendation
Hi, I use a Clifford Research (Clfford Performance) header with a stock L24, stock L28, and a L28 with a E31 & N42 head, and it has lasted well over 20 years. It was sold through Nissan orginally with their dual exhaust (in the early 70's). I beleive the header is still available, but the dual exhaust is long gone. It even had a option for smog fittings. Fits greaat, stock shield fits, however, you need to use a Nissan thick gasket. There motto: 6=8 Not sure how to contact these guys, but they make/made a ton of stuff for I6 for Jeeps, Fords, Chevy, etc..... They were located in Corona, CA. There web page was/or still is: cliffordperformance.net Great product, if they still made that orginal dual exhaust that they produce for Nissan Motorsport, I would buy it in a minute. I had it on my Z in the 70's, the write up was " it would wake up the nearly dead"........:classic:

Thanks for the responses. Carl, can't beat that service!! I just want make sure this car is covered. Not that I am running into things, but I did have a windshield claim on the car..... Any other advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks again, Bob

Hagerty or other collector car insurance?
Hi, I am about to sign up with Hagerty, but wanted to see how some of you feel about collector car insurance. I have a 240 and a few Fiats. My daily drivers are a couple of Jeeps. I thought about covering the z with collector car insurance since it sits in the garage most of the year ( I'm in Central Oregon=cold/snow in the winter), and my current carrier, will not insure it for what the car is worth. Have you had or heard of anyone that has had a claim? Chipped window, parking lot dent or anything else?? Thanks, Bob:cheeky:

Positive Battery Cable???
Hi, What are you guys using for a positive battery cable? I have a 1970 240z and the terminal looks pretty bad. The cable I have has a large cable going to the starter, one extra smaller wire powering up some accessories. I think MSA still offers a original cable? Thanks, Bob:smoke:
