  1. Yup! Brass plugs from Lowes worked for me. I'll look and see if I still have the wrappers with the sizes. But you can google it. At least that's what I did.

When I was fooling with my radio I learned the blue wires are power wires. There was one coming from the fan speed knob someone had put an inline fuse on. It was a newer blade type fuse so I'm guessing the blower motor was melting the original wire? Maybe if one was clogged with leaves and wouldn't spin it burnt the wire so they put that fuse in? That wire in your pic could power the cigarette lighter? Does it work?
  3. How in the world would/could somebody put the needles in upside down??? That seems impossible but I guess not. I've heard it all now of what a previous owner can do. "My word!" is what my Mom would say. 8^)
  4. Maybe this will be better picture. It's a shot from the ground up. Spoiler at the top, skint lip, splash pan.
  5. Thank you! It's been a lot work but I'm getting close to the finish line. That's the original paint from '72 btw. 8^)
  6. Those two 10mm on the ends by the tires are a PITA. I had to cut mine off with just the blade off a hack saw. It did scratch the paint though but I've yet to get it painted anyway. That very front scoop I left on. It reinforces the new spoiler. I had to go back and put it though. I ran it to over 100 and could feel the new one vibrating.
  7. I guess I was referring more to flat spots on the tires from sitting so long but that wouldn't cause the wobbly steering wheel just a thumpity thump thump ride.
  8. '76 Z doesn't have power steering but it would be wise to grab the steering rack and see if it moves.
  9. The tangs on my floats were bent up like a roller coaster's first climb. That caused the bowls to barely have fuel, if I drove up a pretty steep mountain it would stall out from fuel starvation. I found that having them bent fairly level was a good starting point. The red circle was for somebody else. And try gluing your gaskets onto the lids, it helped me when i was getting them set. I used black oil and fuel resistant RTV.
  10. It looks like new tires! That's a real big change, at least on mine, especially if it's been sitting for 6 years. You'll get it figured out. I paid $50 for an alignment after rebuilding all that steering stuff, guy said it was an "1.5" out" whatever that means. Couldn't tell what he meant, really busy shop.
  11. Here's something that'll help find those grounds. http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/electricalconnections/index.html
  12. If things were further/farther? along in my life this is what I would have done, Amtrak for a day. Drinking going down and sleeping on the way back. How about I give the host hotel bar my credit card number and I'll buy when it's my turn but we'll have to Skype over the internet?
  13. I'm not touching that.
  14. Somebody said "right is right, left is wrong" on the tie rod threads so your right with the driver's side being reverse threaded. Make a scratch where they are now and count the turns taking them off. I pipe wrench and a big Crescent wrench worked for me. Mine wobbled really bad and the fix for me was having the rotors turned or maybe I just bought new ones? and inner bearings on the front. I do 10 degrees BTDC on my ZX distributor and could actually go a little more but it runs good all around at 10. Car looks good!
  15. '89 325is with a steel block and aluminum head like the Zs got me through the wildest times of my life. The toughest car I've ever owned. I beat that poor car to death and still got $1,000 for it. Paid $3,000 at auction. Black with black leather. The boy I sold it to still has it and says it runs great but no a/c transmission is worn out, 300,000 plus miles. New ones have the motor covered. Don't like that at all.
  16. Mine hasn't been on the road in a month! That heater core project and the removal of an aftermarket radio and reinstall of the OE has kicked me in the nuts. It has been a real life changing experience for me. I KNOW I'M GETTING OLDER!
  17. My experience with my Zs that run strong briefly has been the fuel filters allow the sediment to fall down and then after running a short time they clog up again. Feel your fuel lines and see how hard they are at different times. They should be rock hard at all times.
  18. If the recall was fixed there'll be a sticker on the underside of the hood, passenger side. But it's not the original hood?
  19. I'm pretty sure it'll have an N47 intake and cylinder head with that EGR and BPT valve in your pictures too. There was a factory recall for certain vin numbers n the Egr coupling I can post in the morning. Mine didn't have the "fix" done and it rotted a golf ball size hole under my intake, causing a tremendous vacuum leak that I chased my tail with and bugged the hell out of the members on here when I first joined the party. I'll get that info to you asap but I'm about to shut down for tonight. Back tomorrow though. 8^)
  20. Which carbs does your 260 have? Are they dome shaped or flatter at the top?
  21. What about the Bavaria?
  22. I've got the same car, 9/'76. But it's titled a '77. It has the sloped up rear deck and the space saver spare tire. I'll put some pictures up in the morning. Welcome to the best helpers you'll meet, more info than you'll find anywhere.
  23. That's great news! Thank you for obliging my goofy sense of humor. I can't wait to Hoover your website. Maybe I can add something useful someday? Put my order in for a ball cap, two of them, one for wearing and one for collecting.
  24. Maybe best to pm 240260280. He's kinda gotten away from Blue, the color of his 280. Should have gone by "burgundy painted blue". @240260280 All my love Mr Pilgrim.
