  1. Sort of close to rabbit ears. The pointed-er end opens them, the round end closes them. These are both closed;
  2. You have the engine lifting bracket up front on the passenger's side, I noticed in one of your photos. It's not the center but that would be a good spot to put the wood under. Probably get it behind the alternator and on a small jack? A 2x4 might be too big. You could use a broom stick or something similar. I don't think you'll have to put much pressure on it, just leave it constant like overnight and the pressure will break it loose. Good luck. 8^)
  3. I've read something similar to Sweaty Betty's idea and it may have already been mentioned. Somebody on here stuffed small nylon rope into the spark plugs holes to fill them up then put a 27mm socket on the crank nose or pulley. When they turned the socket the pitons pushed the rope into the head and popped it loose.
  4. Try a 2x4 under here then a jack on the ground. Put a little pressure on it, you'll see the car start to rise up, but not too much. Let it sit for awhile, maybe overnight. Then try the other side.
  5. Where the valve seal snaps on? Could your cam lobe push it down?
  6. Let whatever his name is, the alpha Z man buy it. Then it would be like the Trump presidency. What he says is the truth. "Everybody disagrees with me but I won and you didn't". Tony D, Ingersol Rand man.
  7. Those plastic wedges can be found in the plumbing department as "toilet bowl levelers" I've used them a couple of times laying tile and prying heads off.
  8. I agree with the cruddy tank. Try a few more tank fulls but I'm thinking it needs to be cleaned. Not as hard for a 280 as a 240. Lots of us have done it so just ask and you'll get plenty of info.
  9. There's some square "knobs" on both sides of the head I believe. Something else I thought of, a ractchet strap around the cam and a rafter would work too. A little pressure today a little more tomorrow and so on. It'll crack loose soon enough. Good luck and we'll be all over it if you need help, that's a common problem.
  10. It's your "tube", polish it as much as you want. 8^)
  11. Some type of a chain hoist/come along from a ceiling rafter or an engine hoist around the cam. Little pressure today, little more tomorrow. I've used a floor jack and a 2x4 to push up from the bottom too. If you can get it to break somewhere a flat nail puller or a stiff putty knife will work. Just remember the block is steel the head aluminum so work off the block if and when you can.
  12. If you start videoing your bits soak those crocodile fingertips in some Palmolive, Madge and use youtube, Richard, not photo****it. We would all benefit from your meticulous work. Sharing is proof you missed your calling, TEACHING! You would and are the best ever, you and Blue. I'm playing around now. Been working in the heat and a few beers is like intravenously shooting it straight in. Nothing intentional, you're my Andy and I'm Barney. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GmFp0I8AZqw
  13. Exactly, drifting is a controlled wipe out. I like to hit curves without worry.
  14. Zed Head, you Nazi! 350 chevy will ruin the handling of a Z. If like going fast and straight then do that.
  15. A new negative phrase like s hi t canned, photobucketed. I love it!
  16. Mike does the forum make any money from google? If we use the forums search does it create revenue?
  17. I am lucky, I can walk away from that headache type work you're doing and jump in a tractor or on a mower. Drink a bunch of beer and get some good thinking done. Every now and again I'll get that "ah hah!" moment whilst I'm doing nothing.
  18. I went the inexpensive route on my '77 rebuild. I don't go to any tracks, just back roads. Port matching the manifolds to the head and a good exhaust set up plus I deleted all the smog stuff, basically turned it into '75. I'm happy with it and no speeding tickets so far. I live in a small town and have the only 280Z in the county so the cops know me and where I live.
  19. You're right! Hadn't thought about it but it's a Kubota 853 and darn close. You just made my miserable bush hog a little less miserable. Thank you. Kubota one day, Datsun the next. Life's funny like that.
  20. Yes! I bought a 240 that had 3/16" from the float bowls to the nozzles where the molded fuel hose should be. He had a zip tie to make the bend but was actually binding up the nozzles dropping action. Big mess! I haven't read the entire thread but are your valves in spec? If they get way off weird things happen that you chase to end up being the valve adjustment.
  21. I can tell you how many it takes to come down from mowing 15 acres, 12. And a couple of "extra strength Anacin"
  22. This year I feel sorry for all y'all. Usually it's not so hot everywhere like this year. Al Gore was right.
  23. Guy, are you going to use a e12-80 distributor with that motor? I know you like to stay original but this one is an exception. It's black!
  24. I read his post. Please don't put a glass filter under your car. A rock could sling up and bust it.
  25. Fram G2 work better on 240s. G3 best for 280s. In my experience.
