Whats your most outragous kill story?
Nah, not really, just had to let off the gas a little. I could see for miles so I was able to see if a farm tractor was going to pull out onto the road in front of me. I was a little disappointed though. I felt like I could get another 15-20 mph more out of it based on the amount of throttle I had left.

Cargo net for rear deck
What about a 'spider web' style elastic cargo net the guys use to secure stuff in the bed of their trucks? I helped a friend out putting one on his truck just the other day. They have about a dozen plastic hooks around the edge. All you'd have to do is mount a few eye bolts at the back and front of the rear deck. Maybe paint them black so you don't notice them so much.

Whats your most outragous kill story?
I guess I can't tell about the time I had my '78 280z to 115 mph and accelerating then realized I had no steering because of the front end lifting up due to the aerodynamics of the car. Oh well.

Keeping Tabs on the Z Market
If you mean the rear deck, I noticed that too. I wonder if it's been raised to hide/accomodate the additional speakers he mentioned? If so, it turned out to be a nice, neat job.

Pics of my restoration (finally!)
Ya, and the value of all those smiles you'll have down the road will more than make up for low hourly rate! BTW, great looking Z you got there. Very impressive!

'Picked up my 280Z Today :D
Like Escalon said, put the key in the hatch lock and, without pushing down, turn the key clockwise 90°, then push the button all the way down until you feel/hear the lock release. Then simply pull up on the hatch to open it. The electric mirrors and 5 speed tranny aren't original. Don't worry about shifting into reverse while driving. The Datsun 5 speeds have a lockout to prevent that from happening. I'd like to see some pics as well so I can compare your '76 and my '75. One thing you'll appreciate about having a fuel injected Z car is that when they are dialed in properly, they tend to stay that way and are very reliable. The down side is the added weight of the 280 series. But that can be cured with a 280ZX turbo motor!

serial number
Hi 280mex, and welcome to the club! There are two other places to look for the VIN (serial) number. The easiest place to look is on the back edge of the drivers side door jamb. There should be a square metal plate that is riveted to the jamb. It's the HLS30-##### number at the bottom of the plate. The other place is on the firewall on the engine bay side. It's engraved in the firewall just about directly above the steering wheel shaft, up near the top of the firewall. It'll be a HLS30 number as well. It's sometimes difficult to see, but it is there. Good luck, and keep asking questions here when you need help. All these members are glad to help.

Glovebox Door
You could try looking through McMaster-Carr's online catalog under 'piano hinge' or 'continuous hinge'. They have them in steel, aluminum, brass, & plastic. Here's the link: http://www.mcmaster.com/ Sorry for not having a specific page link. Their site doesn't work like "normal" sites. BTW, my '75 280Z's glove box door has a plastic hinge. Build month 5/75, HLS30-216514.

New Member, New Purchase, some questions (mostly carb related)...
Hi Matt. First off, welcome to the club! What a beautiful Z you've got there. I can't wait to see your pics as soon as they're approved. If the car is as immaculate under the skin as the rest of the car, I envy you. Especially if you paid the price on the sales ad! By the way, I like the color. Since my '75 280z is fuel injected, I don't have any suggestions for you carb issue, except to search around the club site to see if there's anything that'll help. As far as the roll bar is concerned, have you thought about using a helmet?

Don't mention it. Glad I could help. That's why we're all here!

Need tire info please
Hi Saro. According to Discount Tire's calculator and my experience, a 215/50/16 tire would work fine. I ran 215/60/14's for a number of years on my '75 280z with no problems at all (the 215/60/14's are almost identicle to the 215/50/16's in height and width). I am using the dealer installed 14x6 slotted mag wheels with near 0 offset (need to confirm this). The height dimension (diameter) of the 215/50/16's is only about a third of an inch shorter than the original 195/70/14's that are stock to my car and they are almost an inch wider. That would keep your speedometer close to correct. Here's the calculator:http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.dos#row1

What a deal
Sounds like a good find zman. Check around the club here to make sure your '72 doors will fit your '76. I seem to recall at least one discussion where it was found that there were some differences between the two year models. Don't forget to post pics!
