  1. Phew, my early 74 is on its side in the garage...the 76 is on a 45 degree angle next to that (front end is on the bench to finish the underneath)... The other 76, 78 2+2 and late 74 are in the driveway....and larry's is next to the 78 2+2....Back2Z's 78 will be across the street.
  2. I've looked at that auction pretty closely myself..its not a bad deal considering you get both cars and the floors in the supposed series one car, aren't bad at all. The rest of the car looks quite solid. Those cars aren;t that far from me and I'd be happy to give them a look if you would like
  3. look on ebay. I saw two (70 & 71) offered as a package for 950 buy it now price.

CT may not be a far drive for me to come look at the assess what needs to be done to it. I am located in NW jersey. I can make it danbury in about 2 hours if that helps with location. I currently have 5 z cars and two of them are 260's
  5. its def something you can do yourself.....well this would I guess depend on your mechanical aptitude, however this has been discussed in detail several times here and if you do a search in the archives you'll come up with a plethora of information. if you don't currently have one, I would suggest obtaining a service manual from either haynes, chilton of one of FSM's which will make your life much easier. while your at it, search out timing chain adjustment as well. Might as well do everything in one shot :classic:
  6. hmmm, york is probably around three hours from me.
  7. my deepest respects and condolences go out to you delta and all of your family. James was a wonderful addition to our community and while some of us never met him personally, he will be certainly missed. While everyone on this site comes from differant walks of life, we all share the love of the Z and consider this an extended family. I've had the opportunity to meet some of the people on this site in person, and I did some day look forward to meeting james, have some laughs and talk shop.
  8. let me see how far york is from where i am....

thanks so much alan! I'm sure we'll need it to correctly restore it to what it deserves to be. He also has a true 69 series one car that he's currently putting back together as well. Next time I am down there I'll bring the camera and get some pics. I'm sure everyone will be interested in both of the cars progress.
  10. larry your wife is going to have quintuplets if you bring home another car =)

V12horse, I saw that you were interested in what became of the first fairlady mentioned in this thread. The car was purchased by a friend of mine and was towed home pretty recently to undergo its much deserved restoration. Another one saved from the crusher.

there should be an article on coping with having to sell your project car as wife wants garage back. I see that all too often on ebay.

Born in morrisville vermont, then moved to CT. after a short stay there, it was off to Westmont IL ...yet again time to move once more, this time to a townhouse in bowlingbrook IL. played in the mud there for a few years then it was off to Joisey in the late 70's. My father worked as a field engineer for MCI and we moved alot chasing the money. He was paid outrageously well and eventually went on with the company to develop the entire early stages of the fiber optic network for NYC. pretty crazy. been in Joisey ever since. Funny thing though...before we moved to jersey my mom worked for a datsun dealership in 79. I have a shirt with the 80Zx on the front and the back says "DATSUN, We are Driven...... A long way" it would probably fit a newborn at this point =)
  16. do a search in the archives as we have already whooooooped up on this false advertisement

is that sticker in the window blue with wings, shield and AOPA in the middle of the shield? thats the aircraft owners and pilots association which I currently belong to as well. Someone must be interested in flying thats for sure. AOPA isn;t military based, its actually nationwide for both private and commercial pilots. Great organization!!

the word "glassed" would have me scared to death. fiberglass is generally the non welders solution to rust repair and is not a worthy repair in my book.

If the hole in your floor is only as big as a fist, weld a patch of 20 or 22 ga sheet metal over it, seal it and treat everything with POR 15 or whatever rust preventitive you prefer. Catch it now before you need to weld entirely new floors in. shoot some pics so we can see how bad things are and give some more pinpointed advice.
  21. sounds to me like you are perhaps losing fuel pressure or its ignition related. some questions to answer......have you checked the plugs? perhaps they are fouling. Cap? rotor? Fuel Filter? Fuel pressure regulator? Rust in tank? intake boots before and after AFM? vaccum leaks? air filter? Theres a small list to start if you haven;t checked any of those things as of yet. If you have checked those things, let us know the condition to help better troubleshoot.

If I'm not mistaken the second pic shows reclining levers. these couldn;t be that early as there were no reclining levers until later.
  23. I'm with sblake01 on this one. just another hacked up Z IMO.

Just another example of someone thinking they have something that really isn't. Maybe these people can hook up with the other guy with the $ 25,000 nissan restored 240 and talk shop.
  25. seems like many of us think alike. I too have quite a collection of various manuals from the chilton series to even the generic chilton series that covers many cars. Haynes. and factory FSM and always find myself with them all open as I work. every car I have ever had I buy a book for and I even keep the books once the cars are gone. makes for good reference . However only owning 260's and 280's I have enough to make light of anything. There a couple of other invaluable books to have such as "How to modify and tune Bosch L Jetronic fuel injection" and simply "Bosch L Jetronic" are two must haves for any 280Z owner. They cover in much greater detail the injection system than haynes could ever. Also I highly recommend picking up "how to build and modify nissan OHC engines" and the other book specific to L series motors. They certainly cover the engines in greater detail as they are only specific to that application. I have the 74 FSm for my 260 and use that as most of the basis for any of the Z cars when it pertains to body, dash, interior and things of that nature and most of the knowledge has just come from owning so many Z cars and disassembling them. The wiring in the 280 is relatively straightforward for me by now, however the supplement in the haynes manual has a lot to be desired.
