  1. That is good to know. Thanks for the info. Not too many factory originals around I am sure.
  2. It would be nice to hear from some of those who have judged at the show comment on this subject. I would consider any item that was available from the dealer at the time acceptable as stock. Such items as the 5 slot 14" mags and side stripes, I would consider stock (I think those were dealer options). Even dealer installed AC would fall into the stock category. Things I consider not stock ( that are often found on the 'stock vehicles'): -non-stock paint color -rims larger than 14" -chroming of non-chromed parts -missing smog -headers (debatable if they have smog ports that are used) -lowered springs -racing seats Just my thoughts, Rich
  3. Double the speed limit . I have one of those. That's the yellow one. I'm betting in another year or two the yellow one has an RB25DET in it. And I have one of those kind too. Most appropriate place for it to be besides my garage is in the DHM where people can see it. It is one of a kind. Nice to have one (or more) of each
  4. Unfortunately, I think this is the state of affairs in the Z world. I was at the 2010 JCCS last weekend and of the approximately 40-50 Z'z, I am guessing maybe 5 would qualify as 'stock' . 'Stock' is used very loosely at the show. For some people, it means they haven't added a turbo or V-8 to the car yet. Otherwise people with custom colors, custom interiors, excessive chrome and numerous motor alterations were calling there 240's stock. (Funny, I entered my yellow one in the 'modified' category and it was probably closer to stock than most of those in that category. The yellow color disqualifies me immediately). I personally prefer the the stocks and usually end up talking with most of those owners. As always, the social part of the show is the best part. I am guessing a lot of the 'stockers' leave their cars at home, maybe feeling they can't compete with the mods. Fortunately, at the JCCS, the judges are pretty good at spotting the nice stock cars, and typically they get the top awards. This is typically not the case in a peoples choice award shows. I have a lot more to say on this subject but will save it for another thread
  5. Yes, it's right up there with gear oil and fried electrical wiring on the smell-o-meter.
  6. I know what you mean. I want this one below real bad right now but got the evil eye when I mentioned it to my wife' date=' so need to lay low here. I'm out of space. 6 cars in the family and only a 3 car garage [url']http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/cto/1928533428.html
  7. I would remove the bar that is attached to the two front shock towers, just 3 nuts per side. Clean up the nuts that hold it down. Re-install after your done painting.
  8. Contact Les at Classic Datsun Motorsports. He has some nice ones already made. Not sure if he has the complete car, though. Rich
  9. The trick is to get the lighting right
  10. Great looking car! very stock (I love that), and great color. Looking forward to more pics. Rich
  11. We should start a thread call "Descent Craigslist Z's" or something like that. I was thinking of posting a couple here from SD; one early 70 and one original looking 260.
  12. So I ordered the SM needles to put in my SU's thinking I had the stock needles from the previous owner. When I removed the old needle, I noticed they had a KD stamped on them. Come to find out, the KD's are very similar to the SM's only a little richer at the top end. Did a quick test drive and really could not tell a big difference. I guess that makes sense. So, I am running the SM's. Will monitor and see how the mileage goes since this is my daily driver. Just thought I'd share the info as I had not heard of the KD's before.
  13. Forgot to post the before picture.
  14. Very true statement I did not mean to dis the '73's, I own one. Just thought they were not as desired due to the increased weight, smog, and flat tops. Can't wait to get mine back from paint. Should be a beauty. Rich
  15. Yes, I think I will be there as well. Ron, enjoyed reading about your car in the latest Motortrend issue. Very nice and great pictures.
  16. make sure that the holes for the alignment pins are cleaned out. It should go on fairly easy.
  17. If the shaft driving the dizzy is 180 degrees out, then the dizzy can be 180 out and run just fine. The motor doesn't care, it just wants the spark at the right time. Also, if you are running with out the smog pump, then the advance is pretty large, close to what you are saying I believe. You can re-orient that shaft 180 but you have to remove the oil pump and that gets messy
  18. I love this game...guess the value of the car...one of my favorite. Given the 2 pictures and provided information I will say $4K (plus or minus $2K). Need engine pics and interior pics to offer a better estimate and reduce the tolerance. Hard to tell if the paint has been oxidized, what do frame rails and floor pan look like, how bad is rust under battery. How original is the engine. Original spare? My '73 still has the original exhaust system and it has 147K miles. Throw on the webbers or round tops and you reduce the value of the car. Reduce by $1K for the webbers, Reduce by $500 for the round tops. Only because the car seems very original. The more you change, the less it would interest me. ( Just my opinion-I am sure there are others that feel different) If you can salvage the paint, maybe add $1K to $2K for that. How's the chrome? '73 probably not the most desirable year: 70, 71, 72 would be better. All in all, VERY NICE CAR. I love the color. Congrats on the find. Rich
  19. I forgot about that east coast-west coast thing. Still, that some pretty scary looking rust in obvious places. Would hate to see the not so obvious places. I would definitely have to leave that one alone. That much rust is out of my league.
  20. Yikes! Unless it's free and he will tow it to your house, I would pass. There is much better out there for under $1K and probably much closer. And, it's a '76; you gotta smog that here in CA.
  21. AAhhh, I love an engine bay refresh. One of my favorite things. I did my yellow Z (back when it was silver) with two cans of silver paint. I used them both completely. Everything was covered but it wouldn't have hurt to have a third can. Zedyone, I would take off the VIN plate, it's only four screws. Just don't lose it. Sounds like the engine is not out. That makes it a little tough I think. Never tried it that way. Escalon mentioned using a 100W soldering iron for small holes. That sounds like a good option and one that can be done at home by those without a welder. I like scotch brite for cleaning the brake and fuel lines. Don't use steel wool, it leaves small hairs. Just make sure you use a high temp clear coat over them after they are clean. It's nice to have those fuel and brake clips zinc'd, but if you can't do that- there is zinc simulated paint, or wire wheel clean and use the high temp clear coat again. Looks better than the oxidized gray brown. Take your time and have fun. Rich
  22. Not Bob's. Bob's is a series 1, different white side stripe, black interior and no-panasports. Nice looking car though
  23. Worked on the motor today for the '73Z that is in paint. Lots of zincing...some plating. it's coming together.
  24. Through the club here, ZCCIV. They were looking for a nice '70, so I got the nod.
