My 1972 240Z (10/71) originally came with a 4 speed transmission. Some time later it was converted to a 5 speed. My question concerns the clutch slave cyl. Must you use a different slave cyl for the 4 speed as opposed to the five speed or will the clutch slave cyl be interchangeable between the 4 and 5 speed transmission. I need to change mine (slight leak) and don't know which clutch slave cyl to order! Thanks to all for your help....

Its very sad and overwelming when a member of the family is seriously hurt in an accident of any kind. Members of this forum are like an extended family and concerns are felt in much the same way. The up side is that the latest news is good and lets pray that it continues. Its kind of overwelming when a SUV rolls up alongside of your 240 and all you can see is running board. I don't want to even think about impact. So, get well soon, lots of people pulling for you and we don't want to loose a dedicated "Z" driver...........................

The last vertical defroster elements were installed in 12/71. Cars manufactured in 1/72 used the horizontal defroster grids.

Several months ago, I needed clutch work done on my Z32. In addition to the centerforce clutch I had 6 lbs taken off the flywheel per the recommendation of a friend. WOW!! When I picked up the car I found my shift rpm's had increased 900 to 1000 rpm! What a difference in engine performance! Almost like the time I had the timeing belt changed. I thought the mechanic had bumped the timeing up as the response had improved so much? Not so, the old belt had streached over the 75,000 miles and the new belt put the timeing right back on the mark. Just had not noticed the slower response over the years. SilverBullet240 remains stock for the present.......

Mike: I use a spook to keep downward pressure on the front wheels. I don't have a spoiler on the rear (although I have been tempted to get the BRE period...just can't think of drilling holes , to mount it, on the hatch). Last year I had occaision to drive from New Hampshire to York, Pa. The temperatures were well over 100 degrees F during most of the trip (Hartford,Ct 106 F). My 240 became a 280 (two windown wide open(no a/c) and 80 mph! I had no problem with exhaust fumes. Nice breeze except when I would stop in a rest area! My exhaust pipe does extend a few inches beyond the rear bumper FWIW..... Ken

Mike: The largest source of fumes comes from the hatch seal rubber gasket. Take a playing card, place it between hatch rubber and hatch and close the hatch. You should not be able to easily remove the card. Remove the interior trim (tail light, vapor tank) and check the openings where the vent hoses from the gas tank come thru the floor. Check hoses. Also check taillight gaskets and the inside cover trim on your hatch. Idon't believe that a spook or spoiler will make that much difference if air (exhaust) can get into the car. Remove center counsel and check the two rubber boots sealing the shift lever and the boot sealing the lever to body. In the firewall make sure all thru openings(wires, hoses, cables) are sealed. Does your exhaust pipe extend out just beyond the rear bumper? If all of these areas (and your door gaskets) are good, you should have no more problem with exhaust fumes. Ken 72 240Z 91 300ZX

Hi Lowell: Great story! Were you in civilian or military service on your foreign tours? I spent some 21 years in military service while residing in 28 different countries. You mentioned that your car was a 72 with a build date of 10/71. I am the second owner of a 72 with a build date of 10?71. I now have 72,000 miles on the car. It is metalic silver (901) with a red interior. You can see some photo's in the gallery. Original owner was a Fla lawyer who drove it for 10 years (62,000 mi) and then placed it in warehouse storage til the late 90's. It was never driven out of the state of Fla until I owned it. After a good refreashing I jumped in and drove to New Hampshire in two days. By the way my VIN# is 51114. Close to yours? Anyway, welcome to the club. I guess I have to admit I may be one of the more senior members of this fine group. I half expected 2Many or kmack to make some comment. I'm 70 and still going strong. Put over 3,000 miles each summer driving my 72 240Z to shows or autocrossing my 91 300ZX. Hey, look at Paul Neuman! At 77 he's still competing in GT-1 class and is currently ranking 6th! Started with a Porsche 911S in Europe in 66, 280ZX turbo in 83 and the 72 240Z and 91 300ZX since........................................

Hi Kats: Last summer during a Car Show in Syracuse, New York a TV crew from Tokyo TV covered the show. There were five or six members in the crew. Very interested in our opinion of the Datsun. They did a six minute interview with me and my 1972 SilverBullet240Z. Wanted to know how I had heard about Datsun and how I liked the car. What modifications I had made upon the car and a great bit of detail both about Datsun and the car. Have you by any chance seen this coverage on Tokyo TV?
