  1. How do you envisage mounting this. For instance, do you want to change over to a FI Manifold or convert some[?] Throttle bodies? Which would be the best method of injection, sequential or mass? Seems like a very good system, like to learn more... MOM
  2. I'm glad others have noticed the striking similarity in design. When I first noticed the thumbnails, the same thought went through my mind. Any details on who designed this & was there any relationship to the S30 design team?
  3. The tach actually picks up from the points. Break that connection and engine no go. Basically, there is a transformer type connection which converts the pulses from the dizzy to an analogue re-out [tacho]. If the connection is broken or intermittant on the other side [tach] side then the engine will run with no tach readout. This is why I think I have a problem in the tach return wiring, but I really don't want to pull the dash to find the loose connection.

In the past there was confusion on Historic Categories. CAMS has issued draft regulations for Touring Car Eligibility, which hopefully will stop this confusion, once and forever. They are seeking appropriate comment and suggestions. FYI www.cams.com.au
  5. Good looking car. I really thought the C's were a 4 door car [or was that the 280 version]?, well you live and learn..... MOM
  6. I asked this question years ago, so far no-one has been able to give a satisfactory answer. My thoughts are that it may be ground [earth] related. Good luck and post the solution if you find it. MOM
  7. I think that you need to look at the period in which the car was built. Initally, any top up to the cooling system was just water, resulting in dilution of the coolent, eventually resulting in no "green stuff" and the attendant head corrosion problems in the not to distant future. It's possible the cars arrived with just water in the cooling system, I actually can't remember the condition of my original 260 after I accepted delivery, but coolent was rare as hens teeth in the country and expensive, so it was overlooked and any top up was tap water. Coolent was new technology, overflow bottles where initally not thought of as a requirement. Has anyone looked at the HLS30 parts CD? Is there a part number and year from recorded? MOM
  8. This is another Datsun quirk. My 78 260, brought new didn't have one, nor have I seen any on any other classic zeds in Australia! MOM

  10. I agree with Carl, it isn't a standard item. PO addition only & can't see any benefit in doing so.
  11. So what we really have here is a replacemnt for the H4 insert len's, with a more modern equivilient and Kyrpton globes [which are available for H4 inserts anyway]?
  12. Gav, from the photo it appears that it is the same. I have a pair of 260 struts in bit's at the moment. PM me if you would like to see/compare what you have to what you should have! I'm in the Oakleigh area 6 days a week. MOM
  13. Do you mean like the original sealed beam unit?
  14. I've just looked at a boot. Black Tie would certainly be a better mod than the original clip, if you don't mind non original configeration. Gav, the Bumpstops on a 240 are different. You will need the bumpstops from a Aussie 260 to install the boots, otherwise you could go mad with some Silicon and form a retaining ring/lip for the boot to seat into. MOM
  15. & me too...... MOM
  16. Hi Gary, I would prefer not to have chains, either on the diff or engine mounts. It's simply that if a zed is presented at Rally Scrutiny without the said items, it will get "knocked" back. I given up trying to argue with these people and just want to get out into the forest hence the reason for fitting chains to the diff & engine..... MOM
  17. Interesting you should mention the engine chains, it isn't a common mod... The only reason why my engine got chained up was that the Rally scrutineers kept on moaning about the security of the originals. Good old Lindsay and his mods did it again....
  18. Ah the chain method. Definately a Lindsay mod. Works well on the Rally car....
  19. Yes spot on, although it isn't a C or Cobra. Interesting link Gee, next time I see a Cobra for sale and going cheap I'll nab it. With only 400 produced it's definatly a rarity. MOM
  20. If my memory is correct, it was also known as a Cobra. Very much a muscle car, 2 door sporty config. MOM
  21. Hi Allan, Thats really neat, we used #8 fencing wire back in the good old days.... As to amperage, those links would have been about 45 amps, rated slightly under the alternator output. I've never had one actually go, the PO on my 260 simply used copper wire rated at 100amp and connected to spade terminals. The 240 doesn't have them at all to worry about! It's not exactly rocket science, however I've never suffered from any electrical problems so I've left well alone... Does anyone know if the white covers are available as a spare? MOM
  22. Are you sure you haven't bent a valve? This happened to me several years ago, was ready to overtake a car, put the foot down and all I heard was rattle rattle corresponding with a sudden loss in power and rapid de-acceleration! Horrible mess in the head, most of the valves, all bent, some guides destroyed etc. All because of the Cam dowel working loose. Apparently it's not common, however it does happen. Do a search on cam dowel for some further details.
  23. Hi Mick, Not sure if I'm getting sucked into something here, but what the heck.... The 260's came with mags, any changes to wheels, spoilers, engines IMHO do not change the fact that bodily it still is a S30. MOM
  24. Simple... S30 & it's brothers [HS30, HLS30 etc]= zed anything else isn't.
