  1. Great advice. My wife is on board, so that the biggest relief in the pressure of taking this on.
  2. Funny, I'm reading from page 1 as we speak. I need all the help I can get. The (scary) (encouraging) (inspiring) part is, your pictures and descriptions are identical to my project so far. I WONT TURN BACK! I have had this car for years (10+) sitting. The thing I am afraid of is it "taking" over my life. I have had about 4 240Z's in the past, but were all drivers, but I learned a lot. I just always wanted to do this, build a car that was mine. I started a thread a few months ago. I had a lot of time off from work (paid) so I spent most of it completely dissembling the car, now its time to plan the attack. Thanks for documenting your work.
  3. The facts about filler before primer is what I have been researching for about 2 months now. But I have concluded that many reputable places say that its fine to put the epoxy down first. When you did your body, what were the steps there? Did you completely media blast the shell? I'm on the verge with my car, cant wait!!!!! I plan to blast, prime, then start cutting and welding.
  4. All right, so after stripping to bare metal, are you going to epoxy prime, then do filler work? Looks pretty straight.
  5. Same think with ZX brake calipers as of 6 months ago. Non of the big parts houses had any, RockAuto only had just one side for the rear for the longest time, and the bleeders are pretty worn out.
  6. On rotisserie, so now the rest of the disassembly. Will have pictures soon. Sort of new at documenting work. I work alone and seem to get involved without breaks or thinking of stopping for documenting. Some you make this look easy.
  7. Oh wow, your quite a bit ahead of me. Did you blast or dip the car at all?
  8. Thank you. I have had 8-9 zcars through the years, back when you could buy them for $3000, but never really had "the" z I always wanted. This car has only 20,000 miles on it through a little detective work, but it sat for many years. A super clean 73, going back all stock, hubcaps and all, other than triple Weber 40's and a rebuilt engine oversized a few thousandth. Converting it to 5 speed with an 83 Borg Warner. I remember going to the Nissan dealer back 20+ years ago seeing the restored 240's they were selling and always wanting one of those, so now its time.
  9. Everything is coming off the car, I just got the rotisserie together and needed to consolidate space.
  10. I really appreciate it. This is a great site, thank you.
  11. Great advice. What pans and rails are the best quality? Thanks.
  12. Yes, I'm removing everything, doing a full restoration. I was on Youtube and it didnt seem people were putting any cross bracing in, but I figured someone here would have a clue. Car is empty except the suspension and wheels.
  13. I'm about to replace rails and pans. car is on a rotisserie. My question is, when removing them, does the frame need to have bracing welded in to keep the shape of the car intact?
  14. Installed the new KYB shocks with the older springs, and its now sits normal. So the springs that came with the car have a different rate, but they look identical. Micrometer at my other shop, so once again, I'll check that at a later date. Only explanation I can come up with, is that a long time ago this car had been wrecked in the rear, evidence of a new rear panel and a lot of body work in the rear of the car, which was done flawlesly. I can only speculate that they installed new strut asseblies and they were not factory. Attached is the comparison before the swap.
  15. Yes, Ill swap them over when I get a chance. The Starsky an Hutch look on a ZX isnt becoming.
  16. Here's the ones I just put on, factory strut, dropped the rear of the car 2+ inches, rides normal. Dimensions are the same as the KYB sitting side by side.
  17. I had an old set lying around, put them on just to see if the car would lower. Dont have the spring compressor handy. You think those are higher rate? It seemed they were the same as the old ones. I'll recheck. Thanks.
  18. All even, nothing out of place. Nothing to see. Just sits too high, and ride is very harsh.
  19. I did all the work, everything is correct. It doesn't make sense that just changing out the shock makes the car sit higher in the rear. Looks like Starsky and Hutch Torino. So I installed an old set of worn out struts I had, and it sits back normal. Something ain't right.
  20. 82' NA. KYB KG9113 Gas-A-Just
  21. So I ordered new shock struts, all 4. They are KYB Gas A Just. Long story short, the rear end sits about 2 inches too high, the ride is very harsh. So I contacted KYB and ask them to research the part number with them telling me I had the correct part. I went back and forth with them saying that something is not right, but there was nothing else they could offer me to help solve the problem. I drover the car around for a few months thinking they may settle, but nothing changed. Has anyone had a similar issue?
  22. Did a search, not much out there for the t-top cars. Anybody know who may have some? I have the t top seals from ZCardepot, but cant find the entire lower door seal. Thanks.
  23. Wow, that pretty cool. I have had about 4-5 Oval window bugs, I have a few odds and ends around if you need help. Make sure you visit "The Samba" website for any parts you may need, there's a lot of helpful people there. It seems old Z's and VW's go hand and hand, not sure why.
  24. It's a 56, next restoration after 240. It's all original, 100% complete, just needs some love.
