Vacuum advance question
Dcraig, are you concerned about keeping it original and taking it to car shows? Because if not, a good upgrade would be to go with a dizzy from a 1979 280zx. It is electronic, and the number on the ignition box is E12-80, and is a very good upgrade, for you don't have any floating of the points at higher RPM's. Just my .02. Justin

How much for paint
a7dz, most of the work I've seen from Maaco has been crap. My Z, thank god I rescued it, because the PO was going to take it to Maaco to have the hole under the battery and in the firewall fixed, and they were going to put in fiberglass instead of new metal. I'm sure our memeber here that owns his own shop does a pristine job on his car, and maybe others, but the experiences I've seen from friends who had work done from Maaco has been crap, and they paid for ther job as much as a higher quality shop. Roundy, your best bet is to look around and talk to some of the custom auto body paints shops. There are a lot here in the Lynnwood area, and if they don't know, they can point you in the right direction. I know when I was talking to some of them, a "ballpark figure" was 2500 to 6000, depending on the type of paint I was going to use, and any body work needing done. And that is mostly labor. Stay away from Maaco, for you get what you pay for from them, literally. Justin

Those were used on the old deisel ships before they went to a turbine system, and the big earth movers, and I think they still use them on the earth movers.

I see, thank you for the info Sblake. I know the I'll be running turbo on mine, but that won't be for another couple of years yet. I have an L28 block with the N42 head on mine with the dual side drafts. But will be getting the P90 head for the turbo. Justin

Sblake, wasn't the P90 ran with dished pistions for the lower compression to allow for higher compression with the turbos? And also, the reason I was suggesting big bore kit is because of the triples. With the right exhast system, it will allow the engine to breath better, allowing better airflow into the engine, allowing a higher compression. Or do I have this wrong? Justin

The 2 best heads to use are teh N42 and P90 heads because of their air flow. The N42 will do you goos if your running triples, and the P90 as well. The P90 head was designed for turbo applications to decrease or get rid of (depending on where you read)detonation with turbo applications. I would also go with an overbore kit with flat top pistions to up your compression a little bit to get better HP with your triples. Justin

I now what he's asking, its just that as old as these cars are, it'd be interesting to see the least miles. Hmmm, or maybe both? On the high end and the low end. Anywho, I can't even put up how many mine has becuase its not even the original engine in mine.

Electrical Pleague
What I did to fix my headlight problem for now was buy a project box and 2 12V, 20A automotive toggle switches from Radio Shack, and installed the switches into the box, and ran the 2 wires from the headlights to one switch and the wires from the parking lights to the other. 4 wires in all. Just take the wires from the combo switch, extend them and attach them to the toggles. Make sure you are running the 20A fuse in the fuse box at the same time. With me, I'm buying the upgrade harness from Zs-Ondabrain in the next couple of weeks so I may put on my new steering column cover and new combo switch. Justin

240 taillite chrome strips
My chrome strips are too far gone also, as well as thiny stress cracks in my tail lights. I will be looking for new sets of each soon, and will be doing the LED conversion that Dave does. Justin

msa performance exhaust, 6-1 header with pics
Arne, there are turbo headers out there, but it would have to be custom made. However, with what I'm wanting to do, I'm just going to use the a stock turbo exhaust manifold, which I have, and port it out. I'm not wanting to push any more than 300 to 350 RWHP at the moment.

Brake line cleanup
I have yet to do mine, for I'm just pricing everything for now because of the need to save up for the parts I need. However, good luck in what ever you decide, and let us know the results. Also, if you're going to replace the fuel lines, I reccomend checking the inside of your fuel tank for rust, and if there is any, either take it in to a radiator shop that cleans and restores them with Red Kote or Por 15, do it yourself, or yu can send it in some place to have it done. Do a search here for either fuel tank restore/repair or Red Kote, and it will give a few threads of where you can send it in. Justin

280zxt fuel injector upgrade.......
I myself will be running the mega squirt ECU. They can be set up for stock EFI systems, all the way up to turbo, however you have to have a seperate turbo computer. I agree its a lot of work to convert, but worth it in my case for the turbo. I will be running a mego-squirt ECU with a MSD 6AL ignition with the either a 79zx or mallory dizzy.
