  1. FYI- A neat way to put a temporary stop to small holes/ leaks in your automotive radiator is to add an egg or two ( mostly egg-whites) into the radiator: http://www.4x4review.com/tech/radiator.asp You can learn some meat things watching Mythbusters! thx

    No, it's (the slime & air deal) not slime, but it's supposed to inflate your tire, and it's real cheap. Maybe themight work.Hopefully, you're keeping the electrics on your car working, so you can trust the electric inflator will work when you need it. thx
  3. Don't forget that this is an open public forum, and you have potentially 6 billion or so different people from different countries, and different languges, who could disagree with you! If you don't undertstand someone's intent, you need to ask for clarification. Maybe we could start a poll to see if we have someone from every country on Earth registered here? But since it's also an open forum, you need to take opinions and comments with a grain of salt. thx

    I've seen bottles in the (Walmart store) with tire slime (or something like that) in it and with some kind of inflator mechanism. Do you think that might work on a deflated spare in a pinch? It's much less than the dealer price, and available new, just not what came in the car when it was built.I keep an electric inflator in the car nonetheless. :surprised thx
  5. A kid recently took out a fire plug on my street. The big question is usually, "what makes these kids think they can do the dangerous or reckless stuff & get away without being penalized." Drunk drivers too. Some adults even- who get a dozen or more citations for drunk driving & keep driving. I guess some of them that make it to 35 finally learn what's what. thx

    Ron- That's a good attitude, but I'm sure there are those who are in the "All I need is a 45 autoMag and a AAA card to handle any roadside emergency" group who have tossed their spares in the corner because it's no longer necessary... Those types will still be waiting while you're at the pub having your second pint. Cell phones are for calling ahead to the restaurant for reservations, or to tell the wife you'll be home late from the fishing trip! thx

    I had a leak last summer. I think I rolled a tire during autoX. Otherwise, I seem to pick up a nail or screw once a summer. Too much spirited driving into dirty street corners? Since that's usually a slow leak, I can make it to a repair center. thx

    My 280Z had the deflated spare tire in it when I got it, and certain GM cars had them in the 70s. I even tried to help a motorist once to mount that spare wheel and inflate it, but the air was gone and te tire wouldn't hold the air. Fortunately, it was in front of my house, so we broke out the electric air compressor. The can of air is sometimes found on eBay, but I wonder how well it will work, and a can of air for your hobby airbrush might be better off, with the electric inflator as the standby. The spare in my car was worthless, except for rubbing through the paint in the bottom of the spare wheel well. I have since excused it and prefer the full-size spare. thx

  11. Do you really think they had synthetic rubbers in the late 1960s or 1970s Japan? With the quality of the insulation on the wiring, and the other rubber parts on the car that are now crumbling, things point to NO. It probably would be a good idea to find out what kind of material things like boots or modern rubber car things are made of. You may even be surprised to find out that they're made of soy-based rubber even.
  12. Yes, some dolls are made of a very heavy urethane rubber, and some people can relate to those. The molding process is similar too.
  13. Perhaps there's a better place to get a power feed for your switch? I assumed you were using the headlamps for power, so going with the running lights would be a better choice. Maybe there's a better one than that even. thx
  14. Do you think having to turn the lights on before starting the engine is a good thing? If your battery is partially down, then you won't be able to start the engine & charge the battery...
  15. Mine was painted the same color as the dash (and old dash cap) so when I replaced the dash cap, I painted it all the same color ( black vinyl paint.) I think that it would be a good idea to paint that part and anything else under the windscreen with something that won't reflect the sun into your eyes or back at the windscreen.

    Does anyone know when the Bull Run rallies actually occured? Like when was Spike TV out there with Carmen Electra & the 'flag babes' & all recording the show? This article is from the Reno, NV stop two years ago (Summer 2005), so maybe that's when they were there, not in March of this year, as I doubt WA has nice weather in March. There was also a statement by the shows organizer/producer, Andrewn Duncan. They invite feedback on the show, but it's probably too late to suggest anything, unless they have this rally series again sometime. I'm kinda surprised that there weren't any purpose-built cars more apt to compete & win (with a very good driving team) on the show. That, and an overall map of the sections that were used. I'll have to watch the next 6 weeks ofthe series to see where they went. thx

  18. No problem with that, Enigma, I gotcha. Trying to make sure people who read this now and later on don't get the wrong perception.
  19. Remember the discussion we had long ago giving the car an electrical charge that would 'incapacitate' the theif sitting behind the wheel? It seems to me that this electrical charghe is also about the same thing as those electrolytic rust-prevention systems. You'd be doing both jobs with the same device. :cheeky:
  20. OK, so what do you call that timed engine-disabling gadget, and who makes one? (BRYAN) I don't care who has one in their car. Enigma, Be careful when using the word SAFE, as most people will agree that no antitheft device will make your car safe. Safer maybe. You're talking about relative safety. here.
  21. Gary, Have you looked into RTV URETHANE rubber? There are many kinds of 2-part formulas. You just need one that is oil& gas-resistant, and maybe even heat resistant.

IMO, There shouldn't be a need for any technical assay of the rubber, and there should be no reason why you couldn't use plain old urethane rubber, like the stuff that used to suspension bushings. You can get RTV urethane liquid in gallons, and just pour it into molds that you make yourself from plastic or thin plywood the size of the originals, and insert doweling for the tubes while it's curing. It's like making rubber doll parts.
  24. Who had the electric thing that required you to push a button within, say 30 seconds of starting the engine, or the engine would be disabled?
  25. I think using some RTV urethane rubber Mix, you could form blocks the size you need, then split the blocks, make grooves for the tubes, and clamp them into the brackets. thx
