I'm ba-aaaack - 1971 240Z
Welcome back Alphadog!! Clearly, you have the Z Disease. I once went 11 years without owning a Z, then I ended up with 3 at one time! The new one looks pretty nice. You'll have to show us more pictures and give us some details on it. There are still quite a few of us around from 10 years ago. Sadly, a couple of the older memembers have gone to the great Z Club in the Sky. Marty

Dash Lights not working
Check your fuse box, third one down on the right side. It is common for that one to melt down the fuse box and take out the dash lights. Your tail lights will be out too. Marty

Wisconsin Z Club?
I don't know of any clubs in WI, but several of our memembers in the Windy City Z Club are from WI. Marty

My "new" Z
Congrats on the "New" Z. It looks like you got a great buy on it, with such little rust and a decent interior. It's funny how these things get in your blood. I went 11 years with out one and ended up buying two! Enjoy! Marty

Nice!! You are way ahead of the curve with this one. I am envious!

The interior is easily fixed. The door panels look good in the pictures. Does it have the usual dash cracks?

Nice score Darrel!! That looks really clean. If the interior is as good of shape, it should be an easy restore. Some guys have all the luck! Enjoy waking the beast. Marty

lowering the Z
Unless you are going with super wide tires/wheels, you don't need coliovers to lower a Z. You can just use lowering springs which are 1 -2" shorter.

Thinking of selling my Z... I have the GTV bug REALLY BAD
Hey looking is 80% of the fun!! It doesn't mean you HAVE to buy one. I guarantee that you will regret selling your Z. I sold my yellow '71 over threee years ago and I still regret it. But if you insist on selling it, let me know, I just might be interested. Enjoy the looking! Marty

Old pictures of your first Z
I got my first 240Z in 1980. It was a very rusty '73. I replaced the entire front end, all of both sides , except for the last 12"s, the driver floor board and the passenger side frame rail. It had triple Webers, heasders, Koni's and a show quality paint job. Had it till 1987, when the Webers malfunctioned, threw gas on the header and burned it to a crisp! It was a seriously quick, fun car. Enough to give me Z fever for life. I have owned four 240Z's. There are a couple more pictures of it in my gallery. Marty

240z fuel and brake line insulator sets and steering rack expansion reservoir
Thanks. I see where they ar now. My car is definitely missing those. I thought that those holes may have been intentionally left open for drainage. Marty

240z fuel and brake line insulator sets and steering rack expansion reservoir
Steve, I must commend you on producing these parts for the Z community. They look great. I am interested in the rocker plugs. Just to be sure: are these to plug the hole in the upper part of the rocker, next to the Silver sill plate that says "Datsun" on it? Marty

Final Drive - Done For The Season
I put mine away on or about Novemeber 1st each year. This year I am trying something new for my storage precedure. After a thorough wash and vacuum, I put in 6 gallons of 100 octane race fuel and drove it around to get it up to full operating temp. Then put it in the garage without starting it till spring. I used to put Stabil in the gas tank on all my cars. This last spring I had problems with my race car due to the crappy unleaded gas degrading. Race fuel does not have all of the extra additives and won't degrade. We will see how it does in the spring. Marty

Looking to make a "square" L24 with LD28 crank...
As Patcon said, Robello might be the way to go if you want to keep the stock engine, assuming that it actually is an L24. Check out his site under the 2.7L Purist Z Car: Complete Engine Builds He claims 240HP with SU Carbs. Marty

MUST GO - HLS30 00201 - Project
I am in the Chicago area, not that much farther than Jerry. This would be the perfect retirement project for me. When does he have to have it out of his storage facility? Unfortunately, I have no place to store it for the next 8 years. Marty

Dim headlight
I had that issue once. I pulled the fuse, pinched the prongs together, so it held the fuse tighter. the problem went away. Hope your problem is that simple. Marty

What brand head gasket should I buy?
Do you have a CarQuest auto Parts near you? They have an "OEM Line" of parts. I believe they carry the Ishino, which they said is what Nissan would supply at the Dealers. They are a lot cheaper than the Nissan Dealers too. Marty

'73 240Z - The subtractive process...
Nice clean example. What are your plans for the car?? with your obessession on weight reduction, it sounds like you are prepping it for racing. These cars are a blast on the race track. Marty

1st time Z-owner from Norway=)
Welcome to the club. That is a great looking Z. I am partial to yellow Z's, since I owned one for 7 years. Does it have any rust? IT looks pretty solid from the pictures at least. You will have to tell us the story on how you found it. Enjoy it! Marty

Spindle pin removal tool survey
I can attest to Darrel's tool working pretty well. I think the bearing was a big improvement. I was able to pull 2 cars sets of pins out in an average of 15 - 20 minutes, without a lot of effort. I loaned it to a buddy, who had the connection break. He had it re-welded and it worked fine after that. Overall, I tink the tool worked well. Marty

Advice needed: Buying a 240z - Frame rail?
Is that the 112 Yellow one on Craig's List in Pleasant Prairie, WI? The top side pictures make it look really good. Marty

Grabbing JY parts- which ones to grab first?
While grabbing some parts off of a 12K mile total, one time, I saw a big pile of OEM bolts, nuts and clips that someone left lying on the drivers side floor. I grabbed the whole pile. That has served me well for a number of years. Marty
