Dave, thanks for the reply on the clock build. I have 3 here to play with, I guess I'll go around and see if I can match up a mechanism to it.

What does your Z want for the Holidays?
, thanks for the tip, I'll keep an eye out for Bills reply I dont think my wife would be too happy with my last post but hey, I am desperate!! Actually, I am waiting to see if Santa gets me a garage heater, if not, I am going to go out and get on soon after. I have the interior gutted except for the dash. Floors are solid, I am going to do the POR15 and dynomat, already put new seat foam and upholstery, have a new stereo and steering wheel, shift/e-brake boots and on & on. I figure I would do the interior forst, then move onto the engine bay (I've already detailed it some), suspension and then finally body. Kettering is about 50 miles north of me, it would be great to meet up, hopefully she will at least be back on the road by then...and Cleveland sounds like a blast!

White Face Gauge kit problem (series 1 speedo
Dave, After buying 2 "working clocks" on Ebay and found niether worked, I thought about doing the battery clock as well before changing out my guages with either the Speedhut reverse indiglo or the LED bulbs as you have done. I have done searches for "mini" quartz movement clocks and found them as small as 2- 3/4 inches which seems as if they will fit in the stock housing. I then figure I will have to run wires to the battery terminals and locate a battery box somewhere else for easier access to it. I think this option will give a much more accurate and dependable timepiece. I am however confused in my search for one that I might be able to attach the stock hands to, I figure with a little altering. Can you tip us on how you wnet about this conversion and what type and /or where we could pick up the mecahnism that worked for you? Thanks!

What does your Z want for the Holidays?
My Z would love someone that had the knowledge to work on her and fix her up. How bout it Santa, can you have someone show up and help me out? I will supply my guest room, drinks, great food, a hot tub to soak in afterwards, I will even have my cute wife join them in the hot tub! I'm desperate for knowledge and time to get this thing on the road!

Dead Dome Light
Not sure if this will help you, but I had no dome light or buzzer when either door opened up but I could turn the dome on by pushing it manually. Soemeone told me on here to twist the pin on the door that controls the dome light and it flashed. I took elec. contact cleaner and sprayed it inside the door pin and twisted it around and the light worked! I did the same on the passenger side and got that working. Then, when I put the key in the ignition, I had a buzzer too.

Found a new Z-toy at Wal-Mart.
- Just curious....
In the past year, I have seen two on the road, techinically, one on the road and another being trailered What was really funny was a couple months ago I pull into a gas station and see an older guy fueling up an ole Opel Gt, '72-'73 maybe. He took off before I had a chance to get out to go chat with him. I commented to my wife I hadnt seen one of them in YEARS. Then, later that day, on the other side of town, I see another Opel GT! (Different color, so no, it wasnt the same one ) I wish there were a few more first gen Z's around here!- I get so tired of this -ebay listing
I couldnt agree more...I wished I had paid more attention to my latin class, that phrase might have paid off In my case, the seller answered all my questions to my liking, unfortunately, they were all lies I love Ebay though and will continue to use it. Over 200 transactions and have had this one bad one and a couple non payers. All in all, Ebay is a great resource and there are alot more decent than decieptful people on there. I had a seller recently offer to send me a strong running L28 he pulled out of a Ferrari replicar he was doing for free, just pay the freight charge. Another offered to send me a F.I. harness and heater fan switch for no charge and told me not to worry about the freight...there are still some decent people in the world Once I got a freight quote on the motor, I passed on it He lived in the middle of nowhere in the Arizona desert- Check out these bumpers on a '77
I have a '77 that I got a couple months ago. I have been pondering what to do with the "New York Taxi Cab" bumpers on it. I really dont like the looks of the MSA kits, I think the back especially looks to squared off. Then I looked into doing the 240 bumper swap, possibly using the fiberglass bumpers on MSA. Then one day while staring at the car, I wondered if it would be possible to just move the existing bumpers in tighter and cut and redo the rubber bumper ends. I found this car on Ebay a couple days ago and asked the seller if he would be kind enough to send me a close up of the bumpers. I kinda like it! It definitely tightens up the look.- I get so tired of this -ebay listing
My z was actually the 3rd vehicle I had bought on Ebay. In 2000, I bought a '94 Infiniti J30 with 80K on it, flew to Florida and drove it home the next day. The car is still in my family, my neice has it with over 200k on it, still looks and drives great. I bought my daughter a car up in Cleveland, took a Greyhound Bus up, picked it up, she drove it for 4 years before trading it earlier this year on a brand new Scion. I also bought a Harley, owned it 3 years and sold it for $1000 less than I paid for it...on Ebay, and the buyer was thrilled with it. Then, like Al, I went through the trials and tribulations of looking for a Z around here in Ohio. The few that were for sale in the past year (within 100 miles or so, were pretty shot. So, since I have had luck in the past with Ebay, I turned in that direction. I looked for about 2-3 months before I finally found one that was in my price range, a "mild refreshment" car. Needed seats redone and a new paint job to quote the seller "to be a show car". I emailed 3 different times, asked alot of questions, talked to the guy. I was told he would be very surprised if I was dissapointed in the car. Its a great Z, true, its 30 years old and it needs a paint job and new seats, got a couple dings in it, but it has NO RUST, no BONDO, bought from the original owner, old retired guy. Ran great, everything but the clock works, etc. I pay to have it shipped here, go to get it and the thing is a rag! Spray can paint job, overspray everywhere, all rubber, windshield, headlights, tires, bumpers, even on the console! The engine bay is splatttered with silver paint, the inside of the hatch is rusted through all the way across the bottom, there is a 2' hole in the pass. frame rail, a rust hole on the inner fender about 4 inches. Obvious bondo on the front pass. fender that looks like it is a big wad of gum shoved in there. The blower doenst work, nor the radio, the antenna is shot. The brakes sound like a yellow school bus. Then to top it all off, the PO didnt even had the title in his name! After I finally got Ebay involved and they contacted the Oregon BMV, it turns out that he had bought the car 4 weeks prior for $2250 less than his reserve price on ebay and never so much as even washed the windows on the thing, only lied to enahance its value. I hate to admit I got duped, like most people. I am telling this just to let people know to be careful. I felt since I had such good luck in the past, it would continue. Obviously it didnt. Now I am going to have to spend alot more time and $$ to get this thing sorted out. I am also going to have to LEARN about these cars, as I have very limited knowledge on them. That is where all the GREAT PEOPLE on here come in! A very heartfelt thanks to all that have directly or indirectly helped me so far! I have the interior gutted except for the dash, the floors at least are rock solid!- I get so tired of this -ebay listing
Had I only found this site before I won an Ebay auction, I too could have been spared the pain of getting screwed over by someones fraudulent listing and follow up emails to my questions and concerns. I have finally received the title a couple week ago from an auction that ended on 8-17 and paid for on 8-18! Turns out the title wasnt even transferred in to the PO(S) name until 10-03! Of course he then left me a feedback calling me a piece of dog feces since I had the nerve to tell him I wanted to sue his lame a$$ And a word of caution, Ebays buyer protection/fraud program is a sham as well. I can say they did finally assist me in getting a title, but only after many calls and letters. Now to spend the extra $$ to fix the car up and try not to be so discouraged about the whole affair in the process. It has dampened my spirits about finally getting a Z but I am determined to follow through on this endeavor.- Pricing advice
Iwouls have been interested in them a couple months ago. I rebuilt mine, new upholstery kit ($180) and new seat foam ($198), hog rings and a pair of hog ring pliers ($12). They turned out pretty nice, a couple little "waves" around the side bolsters but look a helluvalot better than they did, and feel twice as good too. I contemplated buying a used set somewhere for the same price range, (miata, s2000) but couldnt touch a nice pair for that price. I looked at all the "sport seats" on Ebay as well, the ones for $99 a pair plus $200 shipping I finally decided to stay with stock and recover/refoam them. Shipping would be pretty steep on seats, you might have better luck throwing them up on ebay, letting some people duke it out on price and ship at actual cost.- Can I Save This???
It doesnt look all THAT bad, if you want to do it right, you will have to cut out the little area and patch around that hole, or you could use some POR15, get as much as the rust off that you can and brush on the POR and it will at least not get any worse. And the battery mat is a good idea as well, you can get one from Motorsports (MSA) for a few bucks.- Do people notice you in your classic Z on the road?
I remember reading years ago that Nissan was coming out with a new Z. At the time I read that they were going to take styling cues from the original Z and go back to the roots of the car, a fast, inexpensive, lightweight 2 seater. I eagerly awaited its arrival and have to admit, I was sadly dissapointed. I had seen some early mockups and artist renditions and the final car was nothing like them. It seems besides the 2 seats, 3 gauges in the center of the dash they got lost along the way. I have only had my car out on the road 3 times since getting it in September (I finally got the title last week from the P.O.), I have had a few people look at it at traffic lights and thats about it. I have only seen 2 others on the road in the past year, so it does tend to stick out.- Who still has their '72 PLAYBOY mags?
I looked in the attic but couldnt find any. I remember throwing them away after reading the articles, I only bought them for the articles- Aside from Zs, what else takes your money?
Ok, my turn 1) my 7 yr old son 2) my wife 3) my girlfriend Okay, just kidding on the girlfriend. Its actually a toss up on the 7 yr old, or my wifes shopping sprees. She is great at saving me money! I told her last week I needed to make the house payment, can you go out and save me some more, she found no humor in it We also have a 21 yr old getting ready to go back to college.- Aside from Zs, what else takes your money?
I love your Lotus! Where in N.Ky are you, I live right across the river in Ohio, Anderson Twshp, about 2 miles from Coney Island, havent seen a local on here. Gorgeous ride you have there!- EBay poseur?
After my last experience though on Ebay, I doubt I would ever buy anything of real value sight unseen. It is a shame there are people out there scamming, most on Ebay are very reputable. I have met some on there that have been downright generous. I bought a complete set of gauges last month for my '77 for $12.50 (cant remember exact amount), wrote the seller to thank him once they arrived, swapped numbers, we spoke a little one night and the guy offered to send me his L28 for free, (he had done the Ferarri body kit-V-8 swap), said it ran strong when he pulled it and he would crate it up, all I had to do was get a freight company to pick it up... I bought a working clock off another guy and spoke with him yesterday on the phone, he is going to send me some misc. stuff, injector harness, fan switch, etc, didnt want any money, not even for shipping, told me once I get them, if they help me out, I could see the frieght charge on the package and send it to him- EBay poseur?
The car has been listed at least two times before. THe first time, it was a scam for sure as I had contacted the seller. I had seen it for the first time in the completed listings and it had not sold. I asked what the reserve was and if it was still for sale. I received a eply saying it was still available, I asked for more photos and received them the same day. Then I was told I could have the car for $4000, including SHIPPING as the dude's brother works for DAS. Of course, at first glance I was like, hell yes, but something didnt seem right. I email the seller with my # and ask him to call me, I wanted him to relist the car with a buy it now price of $4000 and then I would be covered under Ebays Fraud program, I wouldnt work outside of Ebay. I get a reply back with an "Ebay Invoice" for $4000. Something is strange about this, I contact ebay, and yes, its a scam. I write the guy back and tell him I turned it over to Ebay security and I never hear back from him. A couple weeks later, the car is re-listed, I email the seller, telling him about what happened, someone must have hijacked his account/auction, etc. I get the same reply, same guy, different account name, same result. I turn it over to Ebay security again. The replies always came with lightening speed, like the dude is sitting there at all times waiting. But it is a good looking car- headlights won't work
but you are semi retired : )- Nice 280 fetching fair price on ebay
This is what is commonly referred to as "schill bidding" and it does violate Ebay policy. It happens when a seller has another user bid or has another account and bids in order to drive up the price. I know (at least in the past) you cannot retract a bid in the auctions final 24 hours, that may have changed. That discouraged the schill bids. I do know that if there is a cancelled bid, and you were the second highest bidder as in Big Oaks case, the bid should be reindtated as it was before, not at your max bid price. My dealings with second chance offers lately, especially when bidding on Z's, they were all scams and are to be avoided, unless you can confirm without a doubt the identity of the seller. If you get a scond chance offer in email form and it is legitimate, it will also appear in your "my messages" folder of "My ebay". If it does not, it is a scam. I only wish the Z I finally ended up buying would have gone this way, as I was the one that got taken Grossly misrepresented in ad and emails, 3 months to get a title...buyer beware!!- headlights won't work
note to sblake1 and/or Dave, how much would you take to come to Cincinnati and straighten out my car?- Parts car stripped
That thing looks like a cow carcass after a school of piranhas got ahold of it...great job picking it clean- Look at this rust.
Ouch is right. I dont feel so bad now with the 2 inch hole I found last week in the passenger frame rail of my car Actually, I am still saddened by it. I am a novice to all of this at best and know my limitations. I couldnt imagine tackling a job like that myself, hopefully you have the knowledge and tools, or the money to pay someone. Good luck. - Just curious....
