  1. Hi all, Here is a picture of two GTR oil sumps. The top one has been modified for extra oil capacity. Note the front diff and drive shaft flanges!!! btw guess what is going to happen to my RB26DETT zed when I get some more money??? 4wd RB26DETT 240Z hhhmmm that would be nice, very nice!!!
  2. Hi all, Sorry Ivan I do not know the part numbers for the 200zr bits that you are looking for, I would think that the Nissan dealers in Australia be confused if you asked them about 200zr parts anyway!!! I made my own engine mounts by modifying the factory aluminium GTR ones. For the oil sump I modified an RB30DET (from a Holden VL Commodore) and also had to modify the oil pick up so that it goes into the deep end of the sump!!! The reason that I used the RB30DET oil sump as a base to modify is that it fits onto the RB26DETT block (the GTR engine blocks are double drilled to take all the RB sumps) You should be able to just use your RB25DET oil sump and modify that one to clear the steering rack (I couldn't use the RB26DETT one because they have the front drive shafts coming out of it, the GTR is 4WD remember?) A very good trick for the oil pick up is to tap it with a screwdriver and make a V indent into it, this will ensure that the engine does not starve of oil if you were to be unlucky and bottom out and crush your sump at any stage. Good luck.
  3. Hi all, Ivan >> the intake manifold that I’m using a factory one, it is standard only on the RB26DETT - all of the other RB engines have the air intake crossing over the valve covers (making the intercooler plumbing harder, messier and longer, which raises bonnet clearances issues also in a zed). There are several aftermarket intake manifolds which replace the RB manifolds (and are forward facing like the RB26DETT) available such as Greedy (by Trust). Here is a picture of a manifold which is non factory on the RB26DETT (but not a Greedy one) Points to note: In this picture they have removed the factory individual throttle bodies set up (as used on the RB26DETT, aimed at sharper throttle response etc.) and have gone to a single large one. This is common in Japan, as not all aftermarket ECUs have the provision to run the multiple throttle bodies set up. (I personally wouldn’t do that, there are several ECU that can do the job, such as Autronic and Motec as well as others) Don’t get tempted (as others have done) to modify your RB25DET intake manifold by just welding up the intake which crosses the valve covers and repositioning the throttle body to the front. This will give incorrect air flow to each cylinder (favour some over others) and will result in detonation, which we all know is not all that healthy for the engine’s life!!! The RB26DETT intake manifold has ‘curves’ on the inside which is designed to direct air to each cylinder and also tapers towards the back.
  4. Hi all, I have a GTR motor in my 240Z Just wanted to make you all jealous - or justify to myself that the extra expense of an RB26DETT was all worth while!!!
  5. Hi Zvoiture, I was wandering why are you anti-turbo??? (Anti V8 I can understand) If you dislike turbo engines due to "turbo lag" (Porsche 930 turbo, BMW 2002 turbo and other cars are famous for this) then - things have really changed and progressed from those early days! Ball-bearing turbo technology has paved the path to "instant" throttle response from modern turbo setups. Personally I think that despite what lots of people believe, superchargers are way less efficient than turbochargers. Remember the Turbo era of Group B rally cars? (Lancia 037, Audi Quattro, Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 etc….) Now there is some nice machinery!!!
  6. Hi all, If you are looking into an RB engine conversion look at this site: www.hybridz.org They have lots of info there. Stony and I also post there as well, we both have done RB26DETT conversions, he has done it to a 260Z and I have a 240Z. Look at the forum called "alternate 6 cylinder non L6 board" and do a search for RB26DETT, Stony has done a write up on "how to" Leeroy, I don’t see why the RB20DET would be any easier than the rest of the RB engines!!! (Unless you are talking about bonnet clearance issues). All RB conversions will require the same kind of work to make them go inside a zed shell. Things like: modified oil sump and oil pick up, engine management, intercooler and plumbing (if it is a turbo engine), engine and gearbox mounts, modified drive shaft, throttle cable etc.... Good luck!!! PS. if you need specific questions answered, then you can send me a PM.
  7. Hi Ivan, you may have seen my RB26DETT conversion in my 240Z. I used a Holden Statesman radiator which is a triple core unit. The radiator fits well between the rails, only requiring the radiator to have a few holes drilled for the bolts, and a small amount of metal to be trimmed on the radiator itself, not the zed body! The other problem using the Statesman radiator is that the water return is on the wrong side of the engine block, so what I did was get a stainless pipe made to cross over the water to the correct side for a RB block (water in and out on the RHS of the engine on RBs) I replaced the factory fans with twin 10” electric units, there are photos of my radiator and fan setup in the gallery section.
  8. hi 1 tuff z, i'm using 235/45/17 on my 240z as well (you are using 235/40/17) there are photos of the wheels that i'm using in my photo gallery. i had to roll the rear guards so that the lip was "square", but the width of the body remains unchanged, the car is not "flared". did you have that problem to?? now even when i fully lower the car (using height adjustable platforms) the car doesn't rub at all (and this is when you can't even see any tyre, ie the rim is really tucked under the guards) as i bought the wheels from a friend that already had them on his zed, i don't know the offset of them. what offset are you using???
  9. hi all, i think that if you block of the breather on the valve cover will promote oil leaks. the pressure that will be built up in the engine will blow gaskets etc. keep it vented, you are better of leaving it open that blocking it up at all, even if it has no filter on it!!
  10. hi all, if i had to build one zed to a no comprimise package, then i would do exactly what i'm doing now, my rb26dett 240z!!! but i would get a sequential transmission and a few more set of wheels (nice magnesium ones!) and make it 4Wd as well. yes, a 4wd zed has been done already (in japan of course) i had pics of the car in my photo gallery a while back if anyone remembers
  11. hi zach, as show in this photo http://www.240z.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=2010 the cage does not go side to side under the dash. the cage was made and welded by a guy that makes roll cages for a living and is made of chrome-moly tubing. it is not a kit type cage that is "bolt on"
  12. Hi all, the triple Mikuni and SK manifold set up got sold for AUD$1200!!! I really wanted to get it but unfortunately didn't have money at the time! They were 44mm Mikunis and a Sanyo Kiki intake manifold all complete with linkages etc. The set up is going into a car that is being built for Targa Tasmania (the world's greatest tarmac rally). I will get picks of the car once it goes together. BTW does anyone know a source for SK manifolds?
  13. Hi all, just noticed that there is already a "ride of the month" thing running!!! I apologize for the lack of attention on my behalf. But perhaps we can change on the way it is run, just a suggestion.
  14. Hi zedrally, unfortunately I don't have any info on the car or how it runs!!! I just got the images stored on my harddrive from browsing the net.... Has anyone else has tried triple SU carbs before?
  15. Hi all, very good ideas coming in from all over the place!!! I would like to se the grill emblem idea get done. It will mark itself as a piece of history over time!!! Mike, I'll take a couple of those (one for each zed that I currently own) and also a dozen more (for the zeds that I will have by the time I retire!!!)
  16. Hi all, all this chatter of the new 350Z and V6 vs inline 6 engines, and gossip of having V8 engines in S30 zed cars.... did you know that the factory actually also tried the 240Z with a V8 President engine!!! In Brian Long's book he wrote that they found it "although very fast, the weight of the unit affected the handling"
  17. Hi all, just for a bit of fun, how about running a section called "Car of the Month". I think it would be a way for members to show that someone has done a great job of maintaining/restoring an S30 car. Maybe cars should be nominated by other members, or perhaps we can randomly generate 10 or 20 members' names each month and those can then be the candidates to be in the running that month (i.e. vote on those 10 or 20 cars). Ok, I begin with nominating Alan Thomas' car (HS30-H) I love that car.... Alan can I please have it when you get bored with it???? What do others think on this feature????
  18. Hi all, just a point on converting a LHD to RHD. I used to work in a panel beating shop that specialised in converting US Porsche 911s to RHD. The conversion is very involved, having to cut lots of the LHD metal out and spot welding new RHD panels in. In a 911 RHD conversion, things like the pedal box (have to relocate to the other side and also reshape the floor to make it fit), door mounted rear view mirrors, and other things have to be attended to (such as extending the wiring for the electric mirrors and modifying the door panels for the switches). I personally don't think is cheaper, and you would be far better of getting a RHD car in the first place. Think about all the work (cost of your labour or a tradesman's), cost of buying the RHD panels, cost of painting the area that was converted, and cost of buying a RHD dash. At the end of the day it is MUCH more expensive doing it this way. But I know that someone will always think otherwise, so go ahead and prove me wrong!

  20. here is the triple SU manifold used
  21. Hi all, here is a triple SU set up on a L series zedrally>> how stupid of me, but of course that how its done!!!
  22. Sure zedrally, if you give me some brief tips on how to do it I will be glad to post the pics. (the images are currently on my hard drive, not a web page) Sorry for the ignorant question!!!
  23. Hi all, I have just uploaded a couple of triple SU carbies conversion for a 6 cylinder L series engine from my image collection. On is of the manifold and the other is the whole package on the engine.
