  1. What do you get when you multiply 6 by 9? I would heartily recommend the two Dirk Gently books that Adams wrote later on. Neither reached the acclaim as the Hitchhikers Trilogy (all six of them), but they are still excellent. Also, the book "Good Omens" by Neil Gaimen and Terry Pratchett...excellent stuff in the vein of Hitchhikers. FWIW.
  2. Brian, you really should go take a peek at it, it's only about an hour away-just drive your Z so the seller sees what he should aspire to!
  3. Saw this beauty on the way back from Tail of the Dragon, and waited posting it until I could contact the seller for pricing... Build date 12/70, original crack free dash, fairly rust free (some surface rust on the rails, but not much), some NOS seals-still in original packaging, nice enough American Racing slotted mags, fresh paint (though there is some rust bubbling around the drip rails-wonder what else the paint is hiding)-generally a nice looking vehicle-but $10,000 is just too much. The seller seems to have his head in the clouds (or sand)-he also has a sad looking blue gold edition (cracked dash and t-top panels) that is also being sold for $10,000. The 240 is originally a California car-so he says, anyway. I would expect the guy to lower the price, but I doubt he would lower it to a reasonable price. As is, the car is semi-disassembled (passenger seat is loose, interior panels missing and damaged), no exterior markings-well, you get the picture. I will be going back to the place for spare parts for myself (trashed zx in back with mint rear bumper). I'll get more photos of it then, under the auspices of researching for a potential buyer...
  4. What is the point of this thread? You've sold the car, correct? Having little snippits of "dialog" does nothing for anyone. Take for example your last post of all that does is bump up your post count, and grate on everyone's nerves. I was perfectly content just ignoring this thread, but you keep bringing it up for no apparent reason. Have you anything of value to bring to this forum, besides mileage counts and tidbits such as It is as though you are submitting answers to questions that were never posted. 5. Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, anyone?
  6. this one looks familiar-
  7. couple more
  8. I've been having a hard time uploading my zip files to the gallery (poor internet connection) for a few days, so here are just a few:
  9. I am assuming these are Rotas- they look far too similar to your posted photo. No idea about the offset, but perhaps someone here knows the owner (shot taken at tail of the dragon)
  10. Mohamed, here's what Advance Auto Parts has to offer: http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?PartType=473&PTSet=A&SearchFor=Air+Flow+Meter%2fMass+Air+Sensor Brand new Bosch $515; Remanu's from $187 (plus small core charge). Regarding your Core issue-are there any trashed Z cars in any yards whose AFM you could grab?
  11. It was a great drive, all except for the motorcycles. Nothing against them, of course, but some were cruising (harley types) while others were flying (crotch rockets) and they were everywhere-crossing the lanes, passing wherever, and parking in all the really photogenic spots! There were quite a few Z cars, and I was amazed at how many 350 owners waved:) , unlike the G drivers:mad:
  12. 1979. Post some photos, and we'll try to figure out what has been done.
  13. That wire goes to the bottom of the dizzy, and it is a ballast resistor for the radio, as others have suggested.
  14. No reason to-the speedo hasn't worked in over a year! But seriously, I don't plan on driving very fast-partly because of the speedo issue, but mainly because I know what the roads around here are like, and while it would be a blast, it can get real ugly real quick. I'll be there Saturday-just look for a zx with a sad red paint job, no rear bumper, and very little interior trim, though I did put some back in (too many rattles)
  15. Barring some work related issues, I plan on driving up on Saturday-Look for me-I'll be the one driving a red Datsun :stupid:

This thought may very well be entirely off base, but perhaps it's worth considering- Have you checked the condition of your shift boot? I removed my center console/shift boot today (just to look), and it strikes me as a very easy area for leakage to occur. Mine (being a ZX) is rubber/plastic/whatever and seals very nicely, but if memory serves, yours is leather and leather(?)-so I would think it possible that if there were even a very small hole in your exhaust pipe, and you didn't have a good seal in your shift boot area, that this might be the culprit. Just a thought.
  17. Because I could, Mohamed, because I could. ...and now that the panels are out, I'm going to clean them and perhaps apply Krylon(ish) panel paint. Until then, no panels. Thinking of which, does anyone have any suggestions regarding recoloring cloth parts (see headliner picture)?
  18. and in order to do that, I had to remove the door panels. No big deal, right? Well it wasn't, until the dreaded conditions of While I'm At It and What The Hell combined. The car is SO much LOUDER without interior body panels... I found rust, of course. Some in the door panels, mainly on the window guides, and some under the toolbox area, below the speaker area. None of it appears to be too bad, though we all know looks can (and often are) deceiving.

So there is a Bullrun Marathon on Spike right now, and overall, it's pretty good. While some of it seems staged (if they are in such a hurry, how did the cameras get set up for all the gas station shots?) Regardless, it's an interesting concept and I think the variety of cars is great.
  20. Would you mind posting some photos of the parts/cars in the classified section? thanks
  21. Absolutely, Gary-the car will be recieving a healthy dose of POR15, once the rails have been replaced. What I am doing is just a temporary fix until it can be done right, and done at one time. Sleepyzzz-It might be a good idea to remove the undercoating so that you can see for yourself the condition of the metal, then treat them with POR or some similar substance.
  22. Now would be a good time to change out your thermostat. In an attempt to minimize the air bubble danger, I have found it helpful to pour water into the thermostat housing until it finds equalibrium in the radiator, then install thermostat and top off radiator in the usual manner. More likely than not, there will still be some air in the system, but hopefully less than you would have otherwise. FWIW.
  23. Gary, thanks for the tip, and the excuse I needed to get a grinder :stupid: My undercoating seems to have some foamy substance in it, hard to explain, but the stuff is really tough. I'll try to get some detail photos tomorrow of the it.
  24. As the converter works, it turns the iron oxide black(ish), and provides a good primer after curing for about 24 hours. Next on the list is a good spray primer, then rattlecan black to seal the primer. Of course, some of this will be nullified during the welding process, but who knows when that will be.
  25. To deal with the rust on a temporary basis, I applied rust convertor religiously to the area, after cleaning it with prep all (both products by cleanstrip). Since the fenders were off at the time, I did the same to them, the hit them with (1) rustoleum primer and (2) regal red topcoat.
