  1. I don't recall seeing this in a current post, so here is some important info for all. If you have a fire extinguisher in your home, garage, shop, car, or wherever, pay attention to this recall notice. https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2017/kidde-recalls-fire-extinguishers-with-plastic-handles-due-to-failure-to-discharge-and
  2. It's the works SCCN team Nissan Fairlady 240ZR, shared by SCCN works team drivers Masahiro HASEMI and Kazuyoshi HOSHINO in the 1973 Fuji 1000km race, held on 29th July. Nissan's SCCN works team had entered three cars in the race; two 240ZRs and an 'experimental' modified 240Z (testing new parts for long-distance racing), all in the 'R' class. The two 240ZRs were running bored-up, crossflow headed LY24s on ECGI injection and the other car was running an FIA 'Safari' non-crossflow head, also on ECGI injection. The race was badly affected by typhoon conditions, with HASEMI and HOSHINO crashing out after contact with another car after only 24 laps. The sister 240ZR, shared by Kunimitsu TAKAHASHI and Kenji TOHIRA, crashed out on the 57th lap, but the third SCCN 'experimental' car, shared by Seiichi SUZUKI and Yasunori TOSHIMORI, finished 7th overall and third in the 'R' class.
  3. It was my turn to take a drive to enjoy the leaves. I'm working on getting this road included on one of the drives for ZCON 2018.
  4. I swore I was done with big restorations for.a couple of years. I was even going to simplify things around here and get rid of one long term project (remember the 73 I have, I mean, had, for sale? Yeah that one). Well along the way of selling the Z, one of the potential buyers says to me, "I'm interested in talking to you about buying your Z, but want to mention I have an older Z that I've been sitting on for a few years. Maybe you'd be interested in looking at it?" So I ask a couple of important questions like "What's older mean?" And "whats the VIN". Took hime a while to go to it, an read the VIN's. One he says reads 25401 or something and the other says 03798. Ok, now you got my interest. Ok, I bet you already know where this story is going. Yes I went to see it, yes it followed me home. The VIN is 3798, 5/70 build date. Rusty old dog, few things missing, but hey, it has a cool sun roof! (See other recent thread about SEMA and Sun Roofs and being cool).
  5. Yeah, right. Everything that could suck away my spare time happened since my last post, but she's done, on the road again! Took it for a spin today and everything feels good, I guess I'll have to observe some kind of a break in period. I got such a smoking deal on this new toy I couldn't pass it up, not sure what I'm going to do with it just yet, but I'm sure it will end up in a Z at some point. This is an S54 M engine 2001 - 2006, the last of the big straight sixes from bmw before they started slapping turbos on everything. 3.2L, cast iron block, aluminum head, DOHC, 24 valve, variable valve timing, 10.5:1 compression, 8000 rpm red line, without the cats 343hp without any tweaks. Best of all it is 3.5" shorter than the S38 engine and has a rear mounted sump so installation would be a breeze compared to the S38. It came with a 6 speed manual trans, engine wiring harness and ECU. Something to play with this winter
  6. If any of you haven't experienced this electrical issue with Datsun's, let me show you something. I need to clean and change some of the wires in the long-tail fuse box in this beast. The two 12 gauge white high current input wires needed new terminals on their ends, and appeared quite corroded where they were crimped onto the bus bar. So I decided to just change the wire. When I opened up the crimps on the bar, the situation is much worse than it appears on the surface.
  7. I haven't noticed the water pump yet. The front of the engine is covered in grease and goo. I will look!
  8. Maybe I wasn't clear. I meant that I was hiring. siteunseen wanted to get hired, he didn't mention pay. I'll hire all that want to come on board, I just can't pay actual cash wages. The free coffee stands. If you want the coffee stronger our some other adult beverages you are on your own to bring them because I simply don't ever have them. Most of the "work" is looking at z car websites, poking around ebay and craigslist for z car stuff, farting, smoking, drinking, joking, etc. You might occasionally find yourself talking to my backside as I'm leaning in under the hood but the view from that angle is no worse. I better take a little nap after all this thinking about work.
  9. Welcome to the grumpy old man club! You Hoser! You!!
  10. When you're raised in this climate, it's just another day in the frozen north. It was high 80's low 90's most of the summer, unusually hot but I didn't mind. My shop is heated. There is very little suffering going on here. And there is a certain joy in having infinite drift capable tarmac at your finger tips to make what suffering there is all worth it.
  11. Here's us last Saturday at the site of the best bacon cheeseburger in Arkansas----1/2 lb. of goodness after a spirited run through the Ozarks. Wish you were here!! Left to Right-----Jim Smirlies, Kent Yount, Zup, Scott McElroy
