Shot a test panel to try to pick a color for Cody's 510
These colors are all "orange" from top to bottom
918
056
022
That's from memory and it's not what it once was. I substituted a hardener so it was curing slow and my paper stuck in the first color. He likes 022 the best...
056 is really not orange, I like it, but it's more like Garnet...
When you butt weld like that, or pretty much anytime for that matter, you have to do just little spot welds 1/4" or so long at a time. Space them out 6-8". You have to let it cool a lot between welds. If you can touch it, and it feel relatively cool, it's too hot. Sometimes I used compressed air to help it cool, but that may do more harm then good. If you weld too much at a time the panel will warp, especially on our thin Japanese tin
Don't let me be a party pooper though. Some of the results I've had with different designs was not what I expected, so make sure you try what you have. I was getting hot spots with the tower design, but yours are much shorter have the top emitter farther from the gauge face. That might be all that it needs to even things out. Give it a shot!
Using the marker was an easier fix for me. It only took about a minute, and a beer while I waited for the ink to dry and apply a second coat.
Someone should invent a toolbox with an insulated compartment for "beer."
Hi,
My name is Clay, I am in the Navy and currently stationed in San Diego, California. I bought a 1970 Datsun 240Z about 3 years ago. It has been kept in my garage and only driven every now and then because of my desire to restore it. I really enjoy reading the posts here and hope to continue to learn anything and everything about our cars.

I did the LED swap in all the dash instruments and AC controls using 10 chip tower bulb types. I used a flat CREE panel for the glove box. I did have to remove all the green plastic domes in the instruments to allow the bulbs to fit. The resulting illumination is evenly spread over the instrument faces but the clock is not quite as bright as the others (gauge design?). I used white bulbs and the color of the light ended up having a slight bluish tint which I actually like during night driving. My dimmer knob works but the difference between minimum and maximum brightness is not as noticeable as with the incandescent bulbs.
BTW, you will notice light from under the dash onto the floors. I used two white LED strips attached under the dash and connected to the instrument lighting lead to achieve the subtle so called "ambient lighting".
