  1. Ive seen this episode a while back and if memory serves the biggest issue I have that comes to mind was the mechanic re using the old rockers and if your going to do that then keep them identified PISTON 1 intake / PISTON 1 exhaust. But whatever the new owners will have reference via the episode to learn what not to do and why they can not get those noisy valves adjusted correctly. It will be quite for a couple days after a adjustment perhaps.
  2. I found the derelict Z today. No one home at the time. I didn't get a close look at it. Some danger involved in getting close to it. The shed has partially collapsed on the hatch but I think the nose is still uncovered. I suspect that it was protected for many years by the shed until it fell in. Usually when a car sits out in the weather around this part of the country it starts to accumulate moss around the windows. I saw little of that. The little that I could see looked pretty good. It's yellow, the color of my first Z. I left a note asking for some info about it but I think I'll have to go back this weekend and try to find someone home.
  3. My '77 280 has the access cover with the o ring in the hatch, drops in from the top unlike my 240 which goes into the side of the tank. If her o ring has deteriorated it would smell of fuel inside the cabin. Good thought though as those o rings to go bad. I'm curious about the connections at the pump, more so of the high pressure out going hose, as mentioned earlier. If someone put a G3 filter on there a few months ago it could be there too. She needs to have extra set of eyes looking while it's under pressure, a camera would work, in my opinion. Good luck Jai.
  4. In a PM, S30Driver has called her " Deliverance Z" ! Not bad as a temporary name. Kind of adds to the mystique.
  5. I first asked them if they were interested in getting it back on the road & offered my services and access to parts to help them. (Not a likely scenario, but I will do it) In lieu of that, I asked them if they were interested in selling it, & could I come and take a better look at it. Gave them my phone # and email address. If I end up MIA after the weekend, Zed Head knows where to look.
  6. You seem to be implying that gallons of gas had leaked. That the gauge was much lower than expected, at 1/2, and it was still leaking (the gravel was still wet). If the tank is leaking and the gauge is at 1//2 then the filler hose is unlikely as the source. Could be one of the hoses to the fuel pump.
  7. Jai I've found that many gas pump nozzles will over fill? the tank because of the large diameter Z gas cap and hose. You may want to try shutting off the gas before it clicks off. My 71 datsun pick up had a bad hose from the cap to the tank. Everytime I let the pump shut off on its own, I left a puddle of gas on the pavement at the station. I was not very popular until it was repaired. If making snow angels behind and under RedBird is not to your liking, (YouTube $?) you could tape a small mirror to a stick and take a look at the bottom of the tank and the sides if the light is good. Most of the fittings that leak are on the right side. If the wet spot is in the center it will surround the drain plug. Clearly visible in poor light.
  8. Age? I didn't get too close to it. I'd guess a 76. Not only was the shed falling on top of it but the residence looks kinda like it might be a shoot first and ask questions later type of place. Any way, If someone was home I didn't want to pi$$ them of before I had a chance to talk with them. IMO, The place has some bad vibes. I'm not very comfortable even being there but I've been wrong before, so we'll see how the first meeting goes. Hopefully it will be this Saturday. It's been about 24 hrs. since I left the note. No contact yet. In Portland, Google uses a Prius. Easy to spot. I swear one time I saw it, there was no driver. Only got a glance at it but it left me wondering if it truly was driverless or a new senior moment. In my neighborhood, it caught an accident involving a friend of mine. He was able to use a few of the pics to verify his side of the story. I love the old Japanese cars and trucks. Simple to work on. We recently sold my oldest son's 84 Camry college car. Paid $200.00 for it. We put in a clutch and he drove it for years back and forth from Eugene to Portland. About a 100 mile trip, one way. It had 334,000 miles and it still sailed thru DEQ when we sold it.

Just wanted to say thanks to Mike for thinking of all us "old guys" from back in the day! While I don't visit the site anymore, I'm still alive (although I wonder sometimes while I'm working)! I spend the majority of my time working in the Eagle Ford trying to make a living. It's good money but takes up a lot of time. The Z was sold about 8 yrs ago. As the family grew older, it was harder and harder to stay involved with the racing I was involved in (autocross), and I needed a new hobby that included my wife and kid more. I had also gone thru 2 layoffs in about a 4 yrs time frame and just didn't have money to put into the car. I had quit driving the Z and I hated seeing it sit in the garage waiting to rot away from neglect. Having spent 8 yrs building it up from a shell, there was no way I was going to just watch it sit. So I sold it to a local friend of mine that was wanting a Z to drive while his own '72 240 was being worked on. I still get some quality "visitation time" with my old car from time to time. As for the new hobby? I moved over to Seadoos for a few years and now onto recreational boating. We also are on our 3rd RV for camping. We try to spend a weekend every month at a local lake with the motorhome and the boat making the most of the few years we have left with our daughter before she graduates high school and leaves for college. I've got less than two years left now. Oh, my daughter and I also try to spend every chance we get hunting and fishing together. That's the one thing we both have fun doing together. I couldn't ask for a better hunting/fishing buddy! Sometime in the future I may try to get another Z.... This site will be the first place I go to if that time ever comes. Only time can tell. As as for some of the other old guys, I still stay in touch with gmoisant (Gary). I used to be in touch with 2Manyzs (Keith), but I lost contact with him over the last couple years. Not sure where he is at anymore. Y'all keep the rubber on the road and the old Z's running!
  11. OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! THE VOICES HAVE RETURNED. PM me.
