chassis numbers and engine numbers

Featured Replies

Hello to the early Z members. Question, how can I find out what engine number corresponds to my chassis number? I have a 1/71 production Z. I look forward to the responses and help .... regards, Mcgregor

There is an ID plate screwed to the shock tower in the engine bay, starboard side.  It will list the engine number and the chassis number.

my ID plate is missing, is there a registry of chassis and corresponding engine numbers? thanks

Search "zhome registry" on the site.

But, kind of doesn't matter much since you won't be able to prove numbers matching without the plate.

Zed is right.  Without that plate, there isn't a way to know if it is the numbers matching engine.

Ok, thanks for the input. Does Nissan have  a data base that would have a history of chassis #'s made and corresponding engines #'s?

Nope. You can look at other cars to see what vin numbers have what number engines but that will only get you close. You still won't be able to definitively determine if you have the original engine

www.zhome.com - click "Z Car Registers" in the column menu, then "The Classic 240 Z Owners Register".  This will bring up a long list of owners / chassis numbers / and engine numbers.  Find the chassis number closest to yours and compare the engine numbers with yours.  If the engine number range is close to your car, your engine is original.  If it's way off, then your's has been replaced.  You can buy blank ID plates from a number of places including https://www.zzxdatsun.com/
