The blue 510

Finally got the car up on the rotisserie, I had to make the mounting brackets twice because I thought the center of gravity was higher up than it really is.  I'm going to bend up and install all new gas and brake lines now before the paint is done, I learned my lesson on the last car.

It's not too bad underneath, mostly it just needs to be taken down to bare steel again,  I can raise the rotisserie a few more inches to clear the roof if I need to but this position with the rain gutter touching the floor gives the whole thing a firmer feel to work on.

It already looks pretty clean.  A far cry from the usual undercoated mess.

Pretty happy about that but then it was only on the road for 8-10 yrs, the other 40 yrs it has been sitting in one dry garage after another.

Something that is interesting is, this rotisserie I bought was built and used once for a 240Z resto and the length is almost the same within a few inches of the bumper mounting holes for the 510.  I wonder if 240's and 510's were on the same assembly line together and both using similar cradles?

The brake & gas lines are done, I widened the exhaust pipe hole in the rear cross member and the Ermish Racing exhaust pipes arrived as well as the DBX Flowmaster muffler.  I bought the DBX separately because I've used them before and I think they have richer sound than the Super HP that Ermish sells.

I was ordering a few more rubber parts from http://www.new-datsun-parts.com/datsun-510-parts.html

that I missed on my first order and notice the Roll Center Adjusters/ Bump Steer Spacers they sell, they're $35 per set!

That's a 1/3rd the price of everyone else, I ordered a set and they are quality pieces, 10.9 grade bolts and they fit perfectly.

So there is no more avoiding it, time to put the mask and ear protection on and start making a mess.

Thanks for the update.  That's going to be a great little car.

I am in deep envy of your rotisserie set-up.  It just makes things so much easier.

I'd forgotten all about this vendor.  I wish they'd clean up their website by eliminating all of their, 'No Longer Available' listings.  It may have made sense ten years ago, but now it's just annoying.  'I don't care about what you used to have in stock.  Just tell me what you have to sell now.'

My big fear is that you will soon lose interest in 'all things Datsun' and move on new challenges.  The next logical step for someone with your skills is a late-60's Alfa GTV, isn't it?  Or -- sharp intake of breath -- a Jag E-Type.

Oh there's no fear of that, I love the look of the GTV's, absolutely beautiful car and I almost bought one before my first 240z but I was allowed to take the car for a test drive and they really don't handle very well,  the suspension and steering  design are from the 50's.  The Z is much more fun car to drive and was more affordable, not so much any more.  I had my stint with British cars too, they certainly have their charm but they also have a lot of drawbacks.  I almost bought a 510 when I was 16 but my folks wouldn't let me so I'm looking forward to getting this one on the road.

Good advice on wearing eye protection....

I spent two weeks in NAS Jacksonville Hospital after a wire came off of a wheel they were grinding the deck of the Destroyer SS Waldron. Luckily no permanent damage to my eye, but it went in a half inch. BTW grannyknot.....really enjoy watching your project!!!

Does anyone know what the 3 green one red and one yellow dot on the tires mean?   As i sometimes put tires on..(in the past just few times) i know/think?  the red dot is the light spot of the tire and should be placed near the ... what you call it.. the tire valve?  (Learning lots of english here!!! 😉 )

I'm particular interested in the green one's as there are 3 !! of them on 1 tire..

Yellow is the heaviest spot of the tire? (as it is exactly opposite the red spot.)

I got the whole car seam sealed and yesterday put 2 coats of high build primer on everything, so far all the panels are looking pretty smooth but I'll find out this morning when I get the guide coat on it.  One good thing about the Covid situation is I'm getting a lot of work on the car done.

It's a spoiler I bought used from http://www.new-datsun-parts.com/datsun-510-parts.html

With the valance off the car the spoiler doesn't seem to fit very well but the valance does get bent into a more curved shape when mounted so I'm hoping it fits together properly when mounted.  I thought perhaps it was for another car but it does look the same as pics I have found on Google and the vendor says it is correct for a 510, besides, I don't think I have ever fit a spoiler that actually just bolted up easily.
