Tirnipgreen Posted March 18, 2018 Share #1 Posted March 18, 2018 Does anyone know what is needed to convert the front bumper of my 73 to the older style (non-extended) bumper...? I have the bumper...but not the brackets. JDM says their brackets are for 1974 and newer...any help would be appreciated. Diseazd Posted March 18, 2018 Share #2 Posted March 18, 2018 I converted my 73 last year.....you just need 2 early brackets from MSA or Zcardepot. The early bumpers bolt right up! Much cleaner look.
SteveJ Posted March 18, 2018 Share #3 Posted March 18, 2018 (edited) Been there, done that. https://fiddlingwithzcars.wordpress.com/2014/01/20/installing-the-front-bumper/ Rear: https://fiddlingwithzcars.wordpress.com/2013/06/29/rear-bumper-install-73-240z/ Brackets: https://zcardepot.com/front-bumper-bracket-stainless-steel-240z-1970-73.html Bring the car and bumper over, and we can knock it out. Diseazd Posted March 18, 2018 Share #4 Posted March 18, 2018 (edited) Steve.....My 73 had the two threaded inserts on each side, so all you have to do is get the proper bolts (if I recall, the ones I removed for the heavy brackets worked for the new old style brackets) and just bolt them up. You do need the two small rubber spacers and the proper bolts to bolt the bumper ends to the front fenders. The 74 may be different from the 73. SteveJ Posted March 18, 2018 Share #5 Posted March 18, 2018 I did it on my 73, as well. It's pretty much as you described.
Tirnipgreen Posted February 4, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted February 4, 2019 Does anyone know where I can get a NEW front bumper without the license plate tabs...? (turns out the bumper I have IS for a 1973 with the holes for the overrider bumper guards) I am definitely going with the early style bumper, but would like to find one without the tabs... pre-chroming. SteveJ Posted February 4, 2019 Share #7 Posted February 4, 2019 I don't know if any don't have the license plate mounting tabs, but those tabs are a great place to mount a gopro.
