Anyone running MegaSquirt in their Z?

Featured Replies

I will be running MS in my Z, it won't be on a Nissan engine but it is a fuel injected straight six. Wondering if there is anyone in the membership who is fluent in the MS lingo that I can bounce some issues around with. I am on one of the MS forums but they don't have a lot of time for newbies stumbling their way through.

Thanks,

Chris

I've studied it but don't have it.  You could just throw things out and see if the bounces make sense.

I believe MadKaw was using it, tinkering with it, something like that. Maybe pm him.

Did you get this book yet?  It's pretty good.

There is a variety of areas that people have problems with - computer technology to connect to and program MS, the fundamentals of EFI, how to get their parts to work with MS, etc.  MS projects are multi-disciplinary.

multi-disciplinary, that's for sure, it's certainly pulling me out of my comfort zone. I have a thread going here, http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=132&t=63449&p=480309#p480309

The current problem is trying to get the MS ECU to see the signal coming from the crank sensor, I'm hoping it's just a hardware or wiring problem. I'm sure the crank sensor is sending the signal as I tested it with a voltmeter and got 3-7mv while cranking the engine, maybe I'll get a new sensor just to rule it out.

Matt Cramer, one of the authors of that book you linked to is the guy who built my MS unit and is trying to help figure it out.

If I recall right, the crank sensor is very sensitive to interference. I believe it needs shielding and needs to be routed away from other EM sources...

Hi Chris,

It was good to meet you and see your car and engine.

Here is a nice diagram of how to shield the wires to a sensor (as per PATCONS recommendation above..  Note there is only one ground point at the PC/Megaquirt/ECU.

I found that wrapping aluminum foil around the wire then covering with tape is a quick and dirty way to shield.

Thanks Phillip, I am using the stock bmw sensor wires and they are shielded.

Have you tested the shielding on the sensor yet?

How would you go about doing that test?  when cranking the engine and a voltmeter hooked up to the crank sensor I'm getting somewhere around .5 - 1.0 volts AC
