For Sale: Victor Laury’s 1972 Datsun 240Z

It's only a "fact" if you accept that the Nada Guide is the be-all, end-all of car valuation. A car is worth what someone is willing to pay. Period. If it sells, that means it was priced correctly for the market. A guide is just that, a guide, and not necessarily a "fact". What's worth it to you, may not be to someone else.

A price guide is for valuation BEFORE a sale.

As such it is based on empirical data thus more of a fact than a blanket statement such as "the car is overpriced".

If a sale has to conclude before one knows if the item for sale is properly valued, then that would preclude a price guides usage n'est-ce pas?

Having just sold my car a couple of months back for about that much, I'd say that there are buyers for nice, documented cars in that price range. Unfortunately for Victor however, many buyers in that market are looking for mostly stock examples. While Victor's car is tastefully and nicely enhanced, those very enhancements make it more difficult to find a buyer. The wheels in particular are a love/hate kind of thing. Some love them, others do not. Doesn't matter if they are rare and JDM to those who don't like them.

It's glaringly obvious that a price guide is a guide, not a valuation. It's a guide as to the approximate price range that a similar vehicle might sell for. It's not an exact figure on some exact car.
