When Did They Switch to the Internally Oiled Cam?

I have verified the low pressure with a mechanical gauge. Other than that, I haven't looked into the details at all.

At this point, I'm hoping that it's an oil pump. The other alternatives are much more unpleasant.

can you switch to one from the other? with a switch of the cam towers or what would need to be done?

It's easy to go from a spray bar to an internally oiled cam, but to go the other way, you'd need to swap towers. Personally, I wouldn't try that. Chances are high that you'd struggle to get them aligned.

With an internal oiled cam you will need block off plates where the spray bar was and verify there is a plug in the back of the cam.

My production date is 5/77 and I have an internally oiled cam. I'm almost certain that early February of 77 is when they made the switch.

yea i have a cam and towers numberd ready to go. i snaped the tower bolt and not sure and dont really want to chance messing everything up by trying to runn it. dose anybody have pics of this swap? can i just swap out one head for another its kinda a time thing im leaving the army and i need to get the z back on the road.

If you are swapping the whole head, it's pretty straight forward. I would suggest having the new head fully measured. The last thing you need is to install a warped head or one that has been shaved beyond the limits. DAMHIK.

Ok that works i'm getting the thing cleaned and a measure should not cost me to much so I think ill see if I can find a place that dose both. And then fix the other one and do a full rebuild.

What head are you switching to? If it's an older head, it won't be machined for injectors. You can see the notches above the intake ports. I have no idea if the notches can easily be added. I've never put a carb head on a FI engine.

Has the "new" N47 been swapped to a spray bar setup? The N47 I have is the only one I have ever seen with a factory spray bar.
