I thought I'd add my two cents worth with some songs that will stir up the memory banks of all the other old farts like me.

How about;

Trans Canada Highway and Last Exit To Brooklyn and Twenty Four Hours From Tulsa and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance by Gene Pitney.

Twentieth Century Drifter by Marty Robbins

Forty Hour Week and Ride TheTrain by Alabama.

Six Days On The Road by Dave Dudley.

Forty Miles Of Bad Road, (instrumental) by Duanne Eddy.

Truck Drivin' Outlaw by Dennis Olson.

Runaway by Del Shannon.

The Night Has A Thousand Eyes by Bobby Vee.

And a couple of hundred more from that era.

Rick.

I've got hundreds of road songs. These are some of the current ones on the iPod.

Rush - Red Barchetta

Rush - 2112 Overture and Temple of Syrinx

Jeff Beck - Big Block

Jeff Beck - Led Boots

RHCP - Snow

RHCP - Road Trippin'

Nice to see the pride of Toronto (Rush) is getting some air time in California. I had them on myself the other day in the Z. Others include Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Neil Young (another Toronto boy), Clapton, The Beatles and Pink Floyd.

RUSH RUSH RUSH Rush - Red Barchetta "

Here is an excerpt of the lyrics.

"Wind

In my hair

Shifting and drifting

Mechanical music

Adrenaline surge...

Well-weathered leather,

Hot metal and oil,

The scented country air.

Sunlight on chrome,

The blur of the landscape,

Every nerve aware."

Other greats:

Van Halen - Panama, and Unchained

Metallica - Fuel

Boston - Cool the Engines

Steppenwolf - Born to be Wild

off the top of my head....

Neither of my Z's has a radio though, so I listen to the tune of L.

Maybe it's because Geddy Lee sings like a bleating goat. ;) Only more goat-like lead singer I've heard is the guy from Budgie, Burke Shelley. Metallica has covered a couple of their songs, Breadfan and Crash Course in Brain Surgery. If you know those songs, these originals are a trip.

Here are the original Budgie versions:

New Wave driving music?

Gary Numan - Cars

Thumbs up on the Budgie. Great stuff! Been a Rush fan since I got the Moving Pictures cassette around its release. I played it on my old-school tape recorder until I figured out how to twist wires to a mini-jack and have the mono recorder sound output to two wall speakers that I had found in the dump. I have seen every tour since then.
