Best paint color?

As you can see in the pic I posted earlier in this thread, I removed everything from my engine compartment before painting (engine/trans, steering, brake master, clutch master, front suspension, etc.). If your car is anywhere close to the condition that mine was, you will need to do the same in order to have the job done right.

Go down to any new dealer ship and check out some of the new colors coming out, some are pretty wild and it easier to make a choice when you see it in person. Paint on those chips in the books never come out the way you think they will.

The other advantage to using a factory based color is repair work. Trying to match a custom mix can is almost impossible. After painted my last car I found the hood was illegal ( cowl induction hood was too tall) I picked up another hood , went down and picked up a quart of paint and sprayed away. Pefect match and now Im legal again.

well shoot, at this point i like mike's option of just removing accessories form engine bay and pulling back wires, but not actually pulling the engine. i know its no the best, but its better than nothing. if by chance i can get ahold of a crane to lift the engine, i would consider it, but i dont want to pay for it to get pulled...

dogman, regarging you question... my z right now is a ugly, ugly brown. i can not stand it! there is no way im going to paint it its original color...but thanks anywho.

Your paint buddy will be cursing you. You won't get the best job either. It's not that hard to pull the engine. I rented an engine hoist for $35 for the day. A friend of mine has pulled his engine by himself. A helper is recommended though.

I would actually agree with this. It' s not so much that it's difficult to get proper color coverage with the engine in the car (after all there's plenty of room in the engine bay) but it's certainly a lot easier to prepare with the engine out. You could get yourself a chair and just sit in there with your paint prep tools. Preparation represents the bulk of the time painting a car. In my case it was about 6 weeks solid of prep work and less than a day to spray it.

I am in the same boat as mrximus, I am in the process of choosing a color to paint a car soon (i hope). When I saw this color I thought it was fantastic. Apparently the caption under it said it was a classic fairlady Z. Maybe some of the paint buffs can help me identify this color, it think it is beautiful.

Anyone want to do me a special favor and photoshop me a Slimer (name for my first car, long gone)? I suck at Photoshop.

Maybe get permission from the person who put together the site listed below (or if this person him/herself wants ta do it, even better!) to use the 112 yellow car picture. All it needs are American Racing Libre's and the bar style front bumper.

I would really really appreciate it and would love the person for life who would do this for me. I'd like to get one such picture printed (I have friends who work with 44 inch HP color plotters, hehe) to hang on my bedroom wall.

Anyone up for it? :D

Assuming that you're planning on going with an original color, one of our members here put together the following page showing all of the colors:

http://www.datsunprojects.org/zpaintcodes/

If you're not considering an original color you might want to just browse through the member galleries here to find colors that you might like on a Z.

Carl, Haha thanks but I already have pictures of Skidmark, aka the Loafster. ;) I don't have a single picture of Slimer, and I think my sister lost the one or two pictures she had of it.

Chris, yours is 112 yellow with American Racing Libres and the bar style front bumper? If so, heck YES I want a picture of it!!! Send it to kjrogers1977@yahoo.com. Having problems with my other email account at the mo'. Thanks! :)
