I found this nice '76 280 and now it is mine. It does have some issues as to be expected from a 36 year old car. I crawled all over it and did identify some rust, but not serious. No holes, good frame. It runs and is drivable, but I think the rack (steering) needs to be rebuilt. It is extremely stiff at the extremes and ambiguous in the middle. The brakes also need some work. They stop the car but lack authority. I'm really excited to have this car.

I have a 1971 240Z that came with the original "D" hubcaps in a box. By their condition, they look all original with no attempt at restoration (well used). While I was hanging them on the wall in the garage to keep them safer than on a bench, I noticed that 3 of the hubcaps had the valve stem hole above the "D" and one had the hole below the "D". This seems a bit odd to me but I could be wrong. Does anyone know if this is normal? Its not a big deal, but I thought the learned folks at this site may satisfy my curisoity. thanks

My question that I've been researching is what differences are there that make a 1974 260z (mine is early) different from the European 260 in terms of its motor? I know that from a broad view the key differences are the reduced compression (from the altered '74 E88 head?) and flat top emissions-grade carbs, but what changes were there from the 139hp motor to the hotter 165hp?My goal, if possible, is to take my stock motor and convert it to match or exceed a euro-spec engine in terms of performance. See how far I can push an L26 without swapping or making a 2.4 or 2.8 motor. Any help or info on the subject would be very much appreciated

All: I have been casually looking for a first generation z. I probably don't need a new project but I want one. Anyway, I have the opportunity to look at what appears (in photos) to be a nice '76 280z. Can you give me some advice for where I should look? I do live in the rust belt so I want to make sure the car is not a cleverly concealed rust bucket. I'm thinking the battery box, floor pans, frame rails, inside the fenders, rear hatch lip, dog legs, and below the spare. What other trouble areas should I consider? Thanks in advance to all who reply.

Does anyone know if the Servo Diaphragm on the balance tube is supposed to hold vacuum or not? I just pulled the hose & tried sucking through my mouth & the control arm did move (as it should) but it definitely did not hold vacuum. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

This guy has an interesting car and an even more interesting ad. He puts a lot of emphasis on the "OER" carbs that come with the car and states that the buyer must "sign a contract stating that the carbs stay with the car and that I have Right of First Refusal ..." http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/cto/3410263267.html Opinions are very welcomed on this "gem".
