My rear control arm bushings will be replaced soon (either by myself or the mechanic). I want to be able to specify which kind should be put in. From what I have read online, they make Rubber (original) and Polyurethane - the latter holding up much better than rubber in the long run. What are the ideal type of bushings to have installed to replace the 33+ year cracked/worn rubber bushings? Input is appreciated. Thanks.

Hey guys - its a bad luck story. Drivin the 280 behind a dump truck - a 6 inch rock drops out and I can't get around it. It hit the bottom of the Z in a half dozen places - I almost cried. Nothing could be done and it seemed cosmetic initially - so I figured just get on with it and drove on to town (after a brief once over on the road side). Anyway - next day, run over a small bump in the road and clunk, clunk. Jacked her up and after some poking around there it is - the bracket containing the D/S sway bar bushing is pulled off. Pretty clean break from the chassis. Anyone seen this befor? Can it just be welded directly back in place. Best method?

I am installing new wheel bearings in my front hubs on a 72 z. My question is what direction does the inner seal face? There is a grove on the seal and i dont know if it faces the engine compartment or towards the wheel. Any help would be appreciated.

Today I was bead blasting a pile of suspension pieces & small parts and came across these modified early steering knuckles. The smaller ball joints were used prior to serial number HLS30-7985 according to the bulletin TS-70-60. So, I figure these were modified early on in 1970, or else who ever did it would have used a later knuckle to match up with the corresponding ball joint with the larger ball stud diameter. Now to figure out what to do with them. Do you think they would be OK to use if they were machined to allow the use of the later ball joints? They sure seem to have been well done. Here's a few pics with them next to some later stock ones.

Finally, my 72 240 has left my garage for the paint & body shop. While there, it will be stripped of its suspension and steering components. I know what I will be replaced in the suspension---but I haven't given much thought to the steering system yet. My question is--what can I expect to replace (or should be replaced) in the steering system? The only steering parts purchased so far are a new coupler and rack bushings. Thanks

Got the sway bar bushing kit from blackdragon and noticed that my '72 240Z does not seem to have any in the rear. Is this a speciality of the model year or should it be there in any case and has been removed at some point?

Morning all, Everything below relates to a 1973 which came with the factory welded in u-shaped brackets for a stock rear swaybar. ... however one of those u-shaped brackets was bent/flattened open so that it very nearly touches floorpan. I've tried to bend it back but it aint easy to budge. The car is also missing the M12 bolt-in brackets that hold sway bar / sway bar bushing into the U-shaped brackets. These seem to be NLA. Guess I would have to make something. i have seen the through the floor drill/bolt bracket set-up MSA sells for rear swaybar conversions but didn't like the looks of it. i also have a set of the L-shaped rear end brackets on either side of the dif…

I am going to order a set of bushings for my car as my bushings are dry and basically old. But Black Dragon has them listed as 18mm and 20mm. What size came stock on a 1971 240Z. I realize I could just go measure mine, but I am at work, and thought I would pick your brains.

Hello, I am new to the forum. I have a 71 240z all original in immaculate condition as well as a 72 that has been fully restored. I lowered the 72 lime green with Eibach spings and Tokico shocks. I would like to do the same to the 71, but I feel the combo on the lime one is too stiff. What would you reccomend for lowering the car with a better ride? I was thinking adjustable shocks with suspension techniques springs. Any advice? Thanks BTW, is there a min. post requirement to post pix? I have 4 Z's total and have some great pix.

I've been tinkering with a spreadsheet to understand the impact of spring rate on wheel rate / suspension frequency for my 240Z. It is based on a spreadsheet a buddy used. I modifed for the Z, making a few assumptions along the way on the approach to the calculations. I used a web-based spring calculator for the estimating the spring rates. (There is a web link embedded in the spreadsheet). The spreadsheet is a bit messy and has not been fully verified for computational accuracy. Also, I just "guessed" at the suspension component weights, (used to calculate unsprung weight). Attached is the excel worksheet. It's been a fun exercise, but not being the smartest…
