Back in December I wrote seeking wisdom on chroming and painting '71 240 hubcaps. Got many replies, thanks to all, and the 'caps now look great, with one tiny exception, that being the centre emblem. I have several, although all but one have the plastic mounting studs broken off. I've been trying to find new replacements, but without much luck. Motorsport Datsun lists centre cap emblems, but they are shown as 1 7/8" diameter, while all mine are 2 3/8" . Has anyone else come across this issue? Where we might find original matching pieces,? Or has anyone tried attaching the emblems with tiny screws or some form of crazy glue? With respect to glue, I question whether any fastener would be strong enough to hold in place hitting a bump in the road at highway speed. Would love to hear from anyone with experience on this topic.
  5. On 12/2/24 the seller (Performance Exhaust Nationwide) emailed me: We can send through AUSPOST and that is $145AUD plus the item. Keith
  6. You're of course right. The FS5C71A transmission (from my cars), have the Porshe style Servo synchros. If you look at the mixed bag of synchros you can see there are all kind of synchros (Brass and Steel synchros) So we were hoping that something might fight my transmission, or at least we figure out what car / transmission they belong to.

  8. I am going to check the afm and tps next just to rule those out.

  11. This normal. It also shows (edit) pretty good intake system vacuum. 30 psi or below at idle is normal. Have you adjusted the valves recently? If I had this problem I would check the TVS (aka TPS). Make sure it's working right at open throttle. It's what adds the extra fuel. Your fuel pressure looks good.
  12. IMO I don’t think so. Others will chime in. Pressure doesn’t change under load. I think you have issues you haven’t looked into yet.
  13. Could it still be a pressure issue when there is a load on the engine?

  15. There is no load on the engine
  16. Still need to identify a resonator that mimics the OEM. Please post any links you uncover. Keith
  17. I don’t think there is a correlation just letting everyone know I checked the transmission and then I moved on to the fuel pressure. I am just confused that I can not recreate the issue when not driving
  18. Not sure of the correlation between your transmission and fuel pressure for what you’re experiencing
  19. I connected a fuel pressure tester between the fuel filter and the fuel rail. At idle, the pressure reads 32 psi. When I manually move the throttle, it increases to about 38 psi. However, I’m unable to replicate the issue while the car is parked — I can’t drive it out of the garage right now to test it under load. Given that I can’t reproduce the issue when not driving could this point to something other than fuel pressure. My first thought before all of this was that it was a transmission issue. But I took it to a transmission guy who said everything was fine.

Forgot to mention that vehicles registered as vintage 1982 and older do not require emissions. Vehicles 1973 and older are allowed to use license plates issued for the year of the vehicle if you can find them.

In addition to being a proud Nissan North America employee, he is an avid car enthusiast with a passion for Nissans and Datsuns, having owned a 240Z, 350Z and Hakosuka Skyline. Jonathan recently acquired this QM1 White R34 Skyline GT-R from our friend Sean at Toprank International Vehicle Importers, and came to Z Car Garage for upgrades and dyno tuning. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_351756869_571155608528610_6805297484070822199_n.jpg JONATHAN: My history with Nissan and Z cars started before I was even born. My dad had purchased a 240Z in Ojai, California in 1978 while in the Navy and daily drove it until 1998. There are pics of me as an infant of me in it and when I was old enough to go to daycare, he would take me in the Z. Growing up around it, helping him work on it and wanting to ride in it as much as possible shaped my love for not only cars, but the Datsun/Nissan brand and especially the Z. When I got old enough to start thinking about my first car, my dream was to get the newly launched 350Z to go along with my dad’s 240Z. I was drawn to the Le Mans sunset orange launch color and fell even more in love with that color when I got to see it in person at my local grocery store. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_132696088_426127768436159_1139283343644033895_n.jpg As it so happened though, on my 15th birthday, my dad surprised me by gifting me the 240Z! I was in shock but so excited to work on it with him, restoring it to this level I had built up in my head for years. The project took 3 years and by the time I was a senior in high school, we had finished it… Painting it my favorite Le Mans sunset orange and building it out just as I had imagined as a young kid. It was totaled and was a huge loss for myself and my family. I knew I needed to find another special Nissan. Below you will see how this situation shaped how I got into the Skyline’s, specifically my Hako and now the R34 GT-R. However, between the ownerships of the Hako and the R34, my wife found this beautiful 2003 Z33 350Z in my favorite color, Le Mans Sunset. I had always wanted this car since I was 13 and it was the spitting image of (a newer version) of my old 240Z. A great bookend to a Z journey that lasted over 34 years. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_475171980_18481381894037469_6796212038058252544_n.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_383851406_336029832162958_1096898292016150724_n.jpg GT-R Dreams http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/IMG_8777.jpg JONATHAN: My love for the R34 Skyline started I believe with the rest of my generation, 2 Fast 2 Furious. That scene where Brian drives through Miami to get to the race at the beginning will forever be reason for my Skyline love. I also remember watching old Hot Versions on YouTube with the MINES R34 GT-R going against the Amuse MK4 Supra. The sound from the exhaust and the feedback from the drivers made it clear that not only was it the winner in that episode, it was the winner of the JDM legends of its time. It was only natural to want one growing up, but as prices increased, it became clear that it would just be a dream. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_330640336_1364576187632531_7825474603062231957_n.jpg My journey really began on a vacation just after the Z accident, my wife and I were looking at the back of one of my JDM Legends t-shirts that had a Hakosuka Skyline on it. We looked at each other and said “Thats the car”. At that point, we had no idea where to even begin to look for a Hako but we both knew that was the direction we wanted to go. She knew I had always loved the Skylines, but the Hako (aside from the R34 GTR) always was a favorite. After a few months, Jonathan reached out to friend (Randy Jaffe) with a collection of Nissan’s and Datsuns including a 1971 Nissan Skyline that Z Car Garage had worked on! They discussed for a while, and one afternoon the Hako was headed to TN. Jonathan was excited for the opportunity to be the next caretaker of this beloved Skyline. He enjoyed the car for several months, driving it to shows, and really getting to know the chassis. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/A0663221-E3DF-4557-8BB5-DA672E27D537-3.jpg JONATHAN: Just when I was getting comfortable though, I received a call from the sales director at Toprank International Vehicle Importers, who I had built a good relationship with. He asked if I would be interested in selling my Hako to a big Skyline collector in Texas (the Hako returned to Z Car Garage, full report coming soon!). After talking it over and coming up with a good deal, I made the decision to sell the Hako and purchase a bone stock, 1-owner R34 GT-R from Top Rank’s inventory in Japan. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_351716536_1965356540465877_4097935944533235490_n.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_352552391_623108886411257_2846414832913894330_n.jpg Top Rank brokered the deal and made the process so easy. I knew though that I would have to wait until June of 2024 before it could be imported due to the 25-year law but it was so worth the wait and I cannot express how grateful I am to have been in a position for such an opportunity to be realized. http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_437545255_407071535419669_6982521441586894456_n.jpg Upgrades and Dyno Tuning at Z Car Garage http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/IMG_8419.jpg ROB: In the fall of 2024, Jonathan acquired his dream car, an R34 Skyline GT-R, from Top Rank Importers. They were having some issues and shipped it to Z Car Garage for minor sorting and upgrades… JONATHAN: One of the very first videos I saved on YouTube was a video of Rob driving the green 240Z with the RB25 swap. I knew then that Z Car Garage was the best and I always wanted to have a build done by them! After the R34 GT-R arrived stateside, I knew it had to go directly to ZCG. There was no other place I wanted to go and now having the car for a few days, driving it and really enjoying it, I made the absolute best decision. (Below) Jonathan visited us in 2022 for the Tokyo Calling Rally. We had to snap a photo with the Go Green RB25DET-powered 240Z that inspired to build one of his own…and 1/24 scale the model I made http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/IMG_9114-1-1024x768.jpeg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/IMG_9112-1-1024x768.jpeg At the shop we installed a Haltech Elite 2500 with plug ‘n’ play adapter, dual wide-band controller, one-step colder NGK plugs, ID 1300 injectors, Wallbro Hellcat Fuel pump, Z Car Garage Bosch relay kit and KOYO Race radiator: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/DSCN3745.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/IMG_9229-rotated.jpg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/IMG_4093.jpg More upgrades included an HKS FMIC, Greddy BOV, PRP R35 coil packs, Wiring Specialities injector resistor bypass kit and a Haltech boost controller followed by dyno tuning. So you know what we did? We performed a Garrett turbo upgrade with supporting mods and tuned it again. It was wonderful and it rocks. We feel very honored: even though Jonathan lives in TN he trusts ZCG to work on his new R34. We shipped the car back with Masney and everyone’s happy. QM1 is a fantastic color for this GT-R: http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/processed-FF027A96-6BE3-49F9-A9DF-63A1A0C4EB17.jpeg http://www.zcarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/SnapInsta.to_491430585_18497487355037469_8945255357554638385_n.jpg JONATHAN: Since leaving ZCG, I have added a few small mods including the V-Spec front diffuser, NISMO shift know, pedals, double din head unit and a few engine bay dress up items. In the future I will look to add a V-spec rear carbon diffuser, maybe a Z-tune hood and perhaps maybe a little more power. Otherwise, drive and enjoy! 26. Hi Nils Those are all Brass Synchros from the (FS5W) Transmission our Swiss Gearbox (FS5C) has the Porsche type.
  27. Recently, I collected a lot of cool, rare or needed Datsun / Nissan parts and documents again. Let's have a look: First, i got gifted this lovely 510 / bluebird Die cast model from my Lovely lady Myrtha. Big thanks again! She also brought me one of those famous green Datsun Switzerland folders. This one has all the spec-sheets of all Datsuns sold in Switzerland at that time. The specification goes quite deep. These folders were given to dealerships and were in the HQ for a quick check and comparison of technical specifications of all cars: So far I only had copies of the single Z-specific sheets, but now, finally, I have the missing folder in my collection. Very cool. And big thanks gain to Myrtha! Additionally, I got various random bits and pieces from Alibaba, thanks to some tips from my man Urs. Two different sized rubber plugs for the drum brakes (It seems that not all drums have the same hole-diameters?) And various Nylon washers. I will try to see if one of those fits the rear hatch strut damper. Since my original washers are either broken or damaged: My man Stefan also gave me a box of what appears to be Brass synchro gear wheels. We still have to figure out if they'd fit the Z, as they all came without part numbers or description, included in a big Datsun Parts lot. From my Man Dan at Japanese Allstars, I got this starroad Poster. Dan is an official starroad dealer in Switzerland, and he got this during his last visit. Although I'm not a huge fan of the Starroad creations, these days, I really like the photo on this large one-page calendar: After Months of searching, I finally found this 1994 NISMO 10th anniversary parts catalogue. I will put it on display with my NISMO 10th anniversary collection of Accessory catalogue, sticker, steering wheel and shift knob :-) The cool thing is, this catalogue came with an invitation flyer o the NISMO 1995 New year's garage sale at Nissan KN's factory: And even better, a two-page flyer invitation to the founding of the NISMO "club Le Mans". You can read more about that on the official NISMO page. And last but not least, I found this original printed Datsun 240-Z one-page flyer from Datsun Italy. Something very rare, which I've never seen before. Generally, 240Z information from Italy is very sparse, so I had to get it, when it came up for sale: I had some physical work done on some Z-parts too, so I will post another update of a little project soon, too.
  28. Has anyone worked out the significance of these casting marks on the master cylinder? What are yours? This pic is from my May 71 car, but who knows if it is is the original one. :-(
  29. Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I'll be checking in every few months as I prepare to get the old girl back on the road. The Camaro comes first since it's the closest to being roadworthy. It just needs a new wiring harness, which I already have, a different offset for the front wheels to eliminate rub on turn/compression, and some exhaust work. The Datsun however needs more attention after sitting for the last ~18 years and being partially disassembled at one point. Sad I know., but I'll get it going again. Man I can't believe how time has flown... Weeks seem to go by like days and years like months.... At this rate I won't have time to work on this thing until I'm retired.....which can't come soon enough by the way...
