I need some ideas...
Burning oil usually caused by worn valve seals and guides. Mine were bad, but only blew smoke when engine was hot and I gassed it.

1st time poster with a questions
OK. There is interest for the cars here. Vintagecarman, if you can supply 'em, we're more than willing to buy 'em. Guys and gals, put in your orders and let him go find 'em. Even I'm thinking about getting one, despite my love for my Skyline. A matched pair of vintage cars would be nice.

C110 Image Car Replica (for sale!)
I think not due to mounting positions and the like. I vaguely remember it being discussed in another thread here. Must check the parts manuals again!

eBay filter
When I'm in a search-mode for something, I'll usually type "datsun" This brings up a second screen. Check the box "Parts and Accessories" and it returns only parts and accessories. Then I sort by "Newest Listed" and check every day. Yes, there's still a lot of non-interest parts, but I know that the newest listed parts are the freshest ads. Searching for specific parts is ok, but if your words and the seller's words don't match, you miss it.

Wikipedia Authors?
While not as widely recognized as the C10 and C110, the C210 was an important model in the Skyline "family." It was the last Skyline to have the surfline. It was also the last to have a nickname - "Skyline Japan." And it was the last of the "C" series. All series following it were "R" series. Very few exist here in Japan anymore, because they were just not considered as valuable as the C10 and C110.

Not a Datsun..But it's Japanese!
Pretty tough to find, even here jin Japan. Chain drive, I think . . . . I've seen only one and it's parked in a garage, covered up with blankets.

Tire size questions
Wider tires make for difficult low speed manuvers, especially if you don't have power steering. I have 195/55/15 on the front of my car and it's hard to pull into a parking space. The only reason that I have that tire on the front is for the "rake" - low front/high rear. My rear tires are the "correct" 205/60/15 for the speedo. I would go with the 205/60. Tire-wise, as a Toyo convert, I am pretty much impressed with the BFGs I recently bought. I suggest giving Tire Rack a call. They are very helpful in tire selection. I was going with a Yokohama (rear) - Sumitomo (front) combination, but they suggested the BFG after asking a lot of questions (driving conditions, expectations, driving habits, etc . . . ).

A dumb question... but...
Yeah, Zack's way is the "correct" way to bring it up to TDC. If your finger won't fit into the spark plug hole, and you don't have a willing wife, just stick a screwdriver in there (carefully!). I'd definitely make some kind of small groove with a dremel or even a file and paint it. The reason for the groove is that the paint does wear off and you don't want to repeat this process.

Fired up for the first time in fifteen years!
Check the Weber web site too. Run a Google search on Weber carburetors. Parts are still available.

Wheel bearing?
Wheel bearing noise is a definite spinning sound (like the noise old ball-bearing skateboards or roller skates made - man, am I dating myself) BUT . . . . it could be the tires. I had a car that I thought needed wheel bearings. I changed them pout and the noise didn't go away. I put on new tires and it was gone. THEN, I had another car with a similar, but louder noise. Figuring it was the tires, I bought a set and had the car aligned. The noise didn't go away - yup, you guessed it, wheel bearings.

sway bar of 280Z 2+2 into a 280Z 2 seater?
I am no expert, but thicker = stiffer. How it will handle, I don't know, but probably less body roll in the corners and curves.

Differential dead??!!
You could open up the rear cover and look inside the diff.

Smart car
Them Smart cars are popular here in Japan - mostly the ForTwo. I thought M-B was canning the whole line of 'em because of the losses.

Identifyiny Drive train components
Try here too. http://zhome.com Lots of information, but no discussion. My car is not a Z, but I get a lot of useful information here. Great bunch of people.

240Z Paint Feedback
I have never seen a car with the wheel wells body-colored, except maybe a museum piece or a lot of overspray. I would undercoat them. If you plan on leaving it white and driving it, get some wax on the paint before you put back the suspension. That way, it will be easier to keep clean.

Splash Pans
The splash pan also helps protect the bottom radiator tank (at least mine does) from damage by airborne road debris. They occasionally sell them here on Yahoo Japan, but it's FRP reproduction.

Warning! - WIAT can strike you
I am temporarily under the protection of Japanese relative immunity to the horrid disease. Here in a foreign country, without my best tools (basics only), no working space (my car gets parked in dirt and weed filled lot), and exhorbitantly high prices seems to have put it into remission. HOWEVER, once I get back, I know the bug will bite. I just hope that this bit of immunity I have gained after 5 years in Japan augments the small amount of immunity I built while in Okinawa.

Where to find Z info?
Will also failed to mention that there is a lot of historical discussion regarding the cars as well as other trivia, information, and help here for some other Z-related cars such as the 240K and Skyline.

Just picked up my 2nd '78 280z
Alissa, Don't sell those hood vents. As you see in Misc, the vents are hard to come by and there's no replacements available. Ya gotta keep some stuff off the parts car for back-up/spares.

tire size changes
Try Tire Rack. They are very helpful and ship it to your door. I was looking for all-season performance radials. Having decided on Yokohamas for the back and Sumitomos for the rear, they suggested BFGs all around. Couldn't be happier. www.tirerack.com

Curtis is right. Fix the better car and cannibalize the lesser car. It may sound insensitive, since I know you want to fix the silver one, but it may be cheaper in the long run to fix the "parts car" if it's in better shape. my 2 cents.

GTR wheel arches
Really? Just say so and the guys will be more than willing to help you get one. Brian got his with the help of the Aussies. I'd be willing to help too, but seeing as I'm leaving Japan soon, I just don't have the time to look for cars.

my first 240z
Nah. The autobox was added in like Curtis says. If you look carefully in the last picture, between the steering wheel spoke and the ignition, you can see the small clutch pedal down on the floor. Good luck on your project, Curtis. Keep us posted on the progress. Wish I had that kind of money to put into my car . . . . .

Window Visors
Some of the newer ones had stainless tabs that went into the window channel between the run and the door frame. The deflectors were attached to the tabs with rivets (I think). Haven't seen them in awhile.

Bought my 73z from a mexican lady with green eyes for 900 bucks.
So . . . how about some pictures? I'm sure others want to see this gem that you got for a song.
