  1. If you do the 280ZX distributor, you also need the coil, as the stock coil doesn't have enough power.

The quote also implies that Nissan made GT versions of the wagon, which they did not. Nissan only made them as 2 door hardtops and 4 door sedans. Back to the discussion at hand, my 71 Skyline has the "Nissan OHC" cam cover; but I have seen the "Nissan 2000 OHC" cover. Since the basic engine is the same, L20, L24, L26 and L28 cam covers all interchange. The popular one here seems to be the JDM one with NISSAN in big block letters on it.
  3. Z Therapy can rebuild your carbs. They didi mine . The carbs are different from the ones found on 240/260/280 Zs, having a diamond shaped back side versus the Z's square one. PM me and I'll check on the part numbers.
  4. Yup, #114 is all about Zs. Featured cars: Fairlady 240ZG, Fairlady Z432-R, Fairlady Z432, Farilady 240Z Racing, Fairlady 240Z Highway Patrol Car, what appears to be the story of the Z, and a Z new car brochure.

At least he knows he's doing it wrong. Here in Japan, the Americans say "Yokohama" correctly, but say "Yokosuka" "YokOOska." Same kanji цик. When I ask why, they say "that's how I was told to pronounce it." Even after I explain that it's the same kanji and should be pronounced the same way, they can't (or won't) change.

Alan is correct in that it is difficult to romanize the Japanese language to a point that you could pronounce it "correctly" (I say that because in Japan, there are a lot of regional differences) unless you hear it from a native speaker. I am not a native speaker, but, having been born in Hawaii, I believe I have a slight advantage in noticing the subtle differences. Go figure. If this was a Volkswagen forum, we'd all be debating about the proper pronounciation of "Volkswagen"
  7. Was that the one Lachlan put up in a previous post?

Japanese tv commercials pronunce it somewhere in between the two. HS-30H is correct, it's цЧечФгя╝ЫуААwhich is phonetically pronounced уГЛуГГуВ╡уГ│.
  9. Probably cheaper to buy as well . . . .

Here's mine. First I had it blasted and then painted it with "stone paint" It looks the non-skid sandpaper you put down on the floor. Files didn't attach. Too big. Have to go and fix . . .
  11. My mother and I have the same birthday - ha! what a birthday present that must have been! Anyway, up until about 10 years ago, it was always MY birhtday. Now, it's OUR birthday, but she seems to get all the attention and presents. Roles reversed, I think about what she must have gone through all those years. If I were in your shoes, I'd babysit and have my friends come over to celebrate my birthday. That way, you at least show your father that you're willing to help him out, even if he treats you like crap, and still manage to have a fun evening. Oh yeah, you'll probably get an a$$ chewing either way - having your friends over or skipping out on him - but at least my scenario gives you a bit of leverage and a lot more "guilt factor." FWIW HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
  12. Who cares about the old lady? Think about what damage she will do to that oil cooler Whatever can't/won't pass gets taken off and re-installed after the inspection is done. My friend tells me that in the old days, he'd go to a shop that would rent him all the necessary parts, install them, and then take it all off when the inspection was done. This sometimes included the whole engine. It's much more lenient now.
  13. That's the one. Here's a better picture. Must be the lighting because one looks silver and the other is gold. They are urethane, though. They may be custom made to his specifications, but he must have stock on hand. It only took him two days to change out the transmission and replace the clutch and you can't get custom made anything in two days.

It's an "N" My Skyline uses the rectangular head key that is marked the same way. Actually, there are only so many combinations for key codes, so there is probably some overlap between brands. They also generally used the same parts suppliers. Koito was the major supplier of lights and Nippon Denso was the spark plug supplier.
  15. I'd go with urethane bushings. They make them - I got them on my car. You can see the pics in my gallery.
  16. We were taught to bleed opposite - furthest to closest. Ah . . . . the joys of wrenching - there are so many methods . . . . .

Gee . . . I gotta run out to the bookstore and buy a copy.
  18. Did you bleed all the brakes and not just the back ones? Are the cylinders in properly? It may sound stupid, but a friend of mine had a similar problem with his VW. Tried everything and still had spongy brakes. Another friend helping out noticed that the cylinders were upside-down. That made it impossible for them to bleed the air out because the nipple was at the bottom. I use the "glass jar and tube method." I fill a glass jar with clean fluid - about an inch or so. Then I slip one end of a length of tubing onto the bleeder nipple and the other end into the glass jar. I crack the nipple a bit then step on the brake pedal or sometimes push with my hand. When it stops bubbling, I close the nipple and move on to the next one. The fluid in the jar keeps air from entering the system while allowing air to be pushed out. It's also convenient when you don't have a helper handy.
  19. You drove the car with only one drum on? Or was it parked and you stepped on the brake and one drum was off? I think David's right, you popped the wheel cylinder. No, you just need more practice . . . .

This was hijacking a thread in the S30 forum, so I thought I'd try to move it here. They were talking about odd names like "Ben Dover" and "Thomas Hawk" So true story. The Silva family in Hawaii had three sons - they named them "Sterling" "Quick" and "Hi Ho" I have two friends with similar sounding names "Ivan Ho" and "Ivan Hoe" And lastly, my classmate fron High School was named "Heidi Ho" Anybody got some?

I am starting a new thread in the general discussion for the weird names. Should be interesting.
  22. It's a popular upgrade for the 510/Bluebird and Skylines of the era. I would get them checked for warpage, though. I had a set and the mechanic said they were warped so I couldn't use them. The finned aluminum is supposed to dissapate heat better than the cast iron.

WHAT AN IDIOT! ! ! ! I din't even think about that! Thanks Unkle. Sorry guys, the pics are GONE.
  24. Nah, they got the Chinese mixed up with the Japanese (again!).

Sine we're on the subject, let's see some keys. As so many of us have said that there are various combinations - 1 key, 2 key, double side, single side, what do they look like? I'll bet there's a lot of different key shapes as well. Here's mine. Double sided one for the ignition, single sided one for everything else. I don't use them - I use copy keys and keep these in a safe place.
