  1. Yup! The neg battery cable usually goes to a bolt holding the starter to the transmission.
  2. WOW, We picked up a March 1970 and it had a KMart Oil Fiter just like yours. This Z was in a Chicken Coop since 1988! Kmart must have had a filter sale that year. Here is a photo capturing part of the filter

  4. Lets look at what can make a car run rich: Fuel Injectors: - wrong type - leaking Fuel Pump and FPR: - pressure too high AFM - spring too weak - air temp sensor failed - electrical connections corroded - faulty connections inside - wrong type Throttle Valve Switch - electrical connections corroded - stuck on WOT position - not adjusted optimally Coolant Temp sensor - electrical connections corroded - electrical connections open EFI Harness - corroded connections - broken/open connections - bad ground ECU - malfunctioning - wrong type - corroded connections Electrical system - low voltage/high voltage Ignition system - weak spark You could replace the temperature sensor with a fixed resistor to rule it out. 320ohms will do the trick. Make sure you have clean NGK or Denso plugs Also
  5. Drink more beer then calibrate!
  6. I'm sure if I made it my coffee would be bitter Bah humbug!
  7. Great info on the bearings! You and Capt'n are a great resource!
  8. Or maybe routing out of the front freeze plugs and into the rear with a small external radiator in the path? Or using a later head and reading temperature at the sensor bung above plug 6... or routing coolant into it?
  9. External coolant return? Like how they do it in Japan?
  10. Oh look it snowed lsat night. I'll just go across the deck and get the shovel so that I can get to the snowblower in the shed Maybe then I can go to the garage to think about dragging a Z in? Or maybe I should snowblow the driveway first. Still snowing.
  11. Anyone remember the character Winchester?
  12. Bores are matched to pistons for correct clearance when initially bored and honed. If you mix the pistons up and can keep these optimal piston to bore clearances for all 6 then you should be good to go. You can knurl smaller pistons to sort of meet the clearance requirement but it is not recommended.

    Fair play to ya!
  17. A DOHC toyota motor and transmission, some fiber glass fenders, quarters, hood, hatch, plexi side windows, spoiler, front grill with stove screen, some orange and black paint and it should look like a suitable tribute. Throw an ignition switch in the centre console and away you go. Worth at least $100k
  18. Hi stephen, I'm going to try the 88mm VW type 1's hypers with a shave off the top. I'm having a race engine machine shop do the work so it will be in good hands. I was only able to find the 39.5mm compression height pistons. I could not find the "low compression variant". Thanks John for the rod info!
  19. Glad to help Adam, stepping back a bit: How well do you think the linkage is balanced between the 3 carbs such that each barrel flows the same air at idle and off idle? This is very important before any jet changes are done. Do you have a tool for measuring air flow into each carb? For the required bolt, a small metric is all that is needed. I can't recall the size but just pull one and go to your hardware store.
  20. Besides the badges, if one were to do a low buck LHD tribute car, what low buck DOHC motor would be appropriate? Some metal reinforcement and full fibreglass on all corners, hood and hatch would be in the spirit and also low buck.
  21. It is more like "Welcome to a 2015 car auction in the new world." I wonder how much it would have sold for in Japan or England?

  23. wish I was there to help you. I'll be in Alaska in a week... warmer and less snow there..go figure.
  24. Ahhh the master to the student Thanks again for the great lessons and delicious food! The swing is 10" so it seems to be a bit too short. I'll leave it for the machine shop to cut then hone to final size. My worry is that it will weaken the rod too much but, by intuitive inspection it looks like it may still work fine as the big force is compression.
