Was the engine pulled from a running car? How recently was it started and used? If it has sat for a while, what are you gonna do to freashen it up?

Definately looks like an R180 to me.

Don't get me wrong, I love Porsche, and I think they make excellent cars, but don't you think their design is looking a little redundant across the line of cars they're making right now? Not saying it doesn't look good, but they're all starting to look the same.

Hey all. I have a spare 79 ZX engine that I would like to use the fuel rails off of. Reason being that my 77 has all the little rubber links that tend to crack in the heat and leak right onto my exhaust manifold. The 79 does not have this and they also shined up better. Will I see any problems if I do this? I wasn't sure if the fuel pressure regulator would be set the same of if there was some other difference in the rails I should be aware of before I do this.

I don't think i've ever gone more than 140 miles round trip in my Z. Its not that I don't trust it, i just tend to use cars that are more comfortable or do better on gas. If i ever make it to Branson Z Fest, that will become the longest trip.

Hey, who says I wouldn't ditch my Z for a nice SS Chevelle or early Camaro? The point I am making is not that these cars are japanese beaters. What these kids are trying to do makes no logical sense to me. They are taking cars that were built as daily drviers for the purpose of being cheap to buy and good on gas, and trying to turn them into drag racing cars for summer nights on neighborhood streets. Restoring a Z into a show car makes sense because it is a 30 year old classic that started an era for Japanese cars in America. Making a Z into a race car makes sense because it was built as a performace car to start with. I'm not saying the Z makes much of a better drag car, because it really doesn't. What I'm saying is if you want a drag racing car, buy a drag car. If you want a handling car for autox or circut racing, buy a car that can do that (like our Z's or maybe a Porsche). and if you want a car to get you from A to B getting 30mpg and serves as a reliable and inexpensive daily driver, you buy an Acura or Honda. I can't think of many people who save up to buy a brand new Z06 so they can get the kids to soccer practice and pick up the groceries. Trying to make an econobox into a perfomance car makes just about as much sense to me. If I wanted to run low 1/4 mile times I would buy myself a 91 Camaro and swap in a supercharged 383 stroker. Costs less than what these Honda kids are making and does better times.

Excellent question. I pretty much worked my arse off thrugh high school and now and I still have a hard time finding $300 to do my rear struts. I really don't understand why they do it. Its just not logical by any means. Why do they spend 10k to make a 16 second car into a 14 second car, when they could just buy a Trans-Am or Z28 and turn a 13 second car into a 10 second car. Its funny how that kid with the 350hp Acura says he can beat a Corvette or Ferrari. Even if you could, at the end of the day you're driving home in an Acura and the other dude is driving home in a Ferrari. Which would you rather take home??

I thought there were 4 lug 300ZX's. I'm pretty sure the 84 had them.

A 240Z would have been nothing but a pile of rusty powder with an engine sitting in it. These things rust bad enough up here on the earth's surface.

My 77 also has the plate that states 170hp.

Well a Z is hard to come by around here. Since I bought mine 3 years ago I haven't seen any other S30's for sale anywhere in the area. He does have it parked on the corner with a sale sign in the window, so its not like he's giving me an exclusive deal here. The car is avalible to anyone, I guess he just like my Z. The breaks are pretty much gone, so they do need work. Maybe he is just hard pressed to find a Z. Here are some pics of it

I called up the dude today and took it for a spin. Its in comperable shape to my car overall I'd say. He has all the original documentation that came from the dealership including the window sticker. It runs very nicely but needs a break job and the AC fixed. My friend came along and got some pics he'll email me and I'll post them when I get em. I really don't know what to do!!!!! Everybody just says, "Wow, thats a tough call"

This problem just arose yesterday. When I am driving at night with my headlights running and I hit the breaks, for a split second all the lights inside and out of the car dim. The volt meter drops to about 11 and the turn signals are really slow when the breaks are pushed in. This only happens when the clutch is in and the car is running at idle speed. If I hit the breaks without using the clutch, this problem doesn't happen. Basically if the car is at less than 1500rpms and the breaks are pushed, I am robbed of this power. My question is, does this sound like a weak battery or a bad alternator? Its also been giving me some trouble starting too, which is why I am thinking battery. Any thoughts?

Thats one thing I've really been considering. If I were selling my Z, i could maybe get $3000 if I were REALY lucky. These things are worth closer to 7k and sell for that all the time around here. I am going to take it for a drive soon too. Honestly, handling isn't a huge factor for me. All the roads around here are straight and flat. I also don't autocross, so its not like I'm dependant on taking hard fast turns. I also need to see if they are wanting to do a straight up trade, or if they're intending on me handing over cash as well. I'm just a sucker for Corvettes. I am a GM guy at heart, but the Z was something special and my first love when it came to cars.

There ain't nothing wrong with the 280Z. Personally I kinda like the interior better on the 280 than the 240, but thats just me. I love all S30's. The 280 was the only one I could find around here though, and luckily I've been able to locate some parts cars in junkyards, but I am yet to see a 240. Some argue about HP numbers, but there really isn't any way to tell aside from dropping each on a dyno or just racing at the drag strip. Your average Joe is gonna think your 280 is just as cool as a 240. Its got the Z look. I'd like to see some pics of you DMC-12 sometime too!

So I recently got an offer to trade my 280Z for a 1977 Corvette. The idea of owning a Corvette at the age of 20 seems really appealing to me, and the car is in pretty good shape. Its orange with black leather interior and the seats look new. Its an auto, but its also got a 350 under the hood (though its about the weakest 350 ever.) I really don't know what to do. I love my Z, but this car is really tempting. I really want something thats faster. I have been looking into doing a L28ET swap into my car, but that seems like a lot of work. Having a V8 to start with seems like a better place to start from. I'm really struggling here with this because I love the looks I get in the Z and all the people that approach me about it, even in its current condition. I've also put so much work into it. If anyone here has owned a C3 Vette and can tell me the finer points of owning each, I would appriciate it. I still need to test drive it and see what I think of it under closer inspection. What am I to do??????

I got the same thing going on with mine, but its black smoke. Same kinda deal, its fine unless I floor it. If you watch the videos of my at the drag strip you can see it. I think white would mean water in your burnt exhaust.

Sounds like fun. I remember my "first" voyage out in mine, the muffler fell off in a parking lot....
