My friend just picked up a '71 with me from the US and his seems to have the same problem, I was just searching for this. Good timing, we'll look at the grounds. anywhere particular that might be obvious for a bad ground?
  2. They should still be available through your local nissan dealer. I got a set late last year. They had to order them of course and get them from Japan, so it took like 2 weeks but with the part number it was no problem.
  3. I pulled my own manual apart, scanned it and mailed Will the cd. I would gladly kick in for sending materials back to others, Will shouldnt have to shoulder that responsibility as well as put the cd together. Regardless of how huw humble he's being about the whole thing, its ALOT of work.
  4. I love how my Z sits quietly under other car parts, coated in a haze of body filler. My Z needs no motor, drivetrain or other hardware. My Z is just happy to have wheels. Sometimes, My Z gets rolled to the other side of the bodyshop for more work. My Z doesn't ask for much...she just waits patiently for the day she is painted. Im so sad now...
  5. Will, Don't forget to factor in your pricing plan the guys who tore up their 72 FSM's and owners manuals for the cause!
  6. Thanks Will, I know how much work this ended up being for you. Keep up the good work. Zak
  7. Ya, that would be the problem. How do the rest of them look?
  8. Nice color too. Looks great.

Hey, welcome to the site. Im east of you near Toronto. You're going to have to get used to a pretty cold winter! Theres lots of great info here, and Im sure your mechanic skills will be able to help us out sometime. Post us some pics of your cars, show us your progress.
  10. I just had the same problem on my '72 when we pulled the head off 2 weeks ago. Broke a few bolts, got them out after some work but the head still would not budge. Ended up taking awhile. I used a flat drywall spatula/scraper thing to get under the gasket on the block side. Then used a hammer and tapped it enough to break the seal, then I tapped it down the exhaust side to break the seal, but theres little metal guides like little dowels that guide the head on the block so watch out for those. Even after it seemed I got most of the area 'cracked' the head still would not come off. I got a flat metal wedge at the front side and tapped it in , then took another one and did the other side, then I could see light coming thru the other side. A few more whacks and it popped off. When I brought the head in to the machine shop it wasn't warped or anything. I was pretty careful, but it did require a bit of force.
  11. hey

Kevin, welcome to the site and good luck hunting for your Z. There is a ton of info here, the search function will help you with your research, and maybe the classifieds can lead you to a new (old!) Z.
  12. Take it from me....wait for the right one! I bought quickly...4 years ago. And for the money and time it takes to fix the mistakes, it's almost not worth it unless you want to learn every bolt on the car. When you finally find the one you want, you can rest assured it was your choice to get her, and you'll be happier with the results.
  13. This hijacking doesnt even make sense. I'd almost prefer to see an ad for grey market cellphones or electronics. Blueturbo talking about his restoration then BAM - An essay on China. WTF?
  14. I have a header also, looks close to the one from MSA. When I pulled out mine, I took the motor, header, trans and everything attached to it. I havn't put it all back in mind you...but it came out ok.
  15. Ron, The right click, page info - translate is only there is you use Firefox as a browser. If you use IE, gotta go to google translator.
  16. Must feel great to get her done. I love the color and the interior would look even better with some white seats. Be proud of all your hard work and hopefully that smile will stay for a few thousand miles.
  17. The people here make the club as good as it is.

I ordered an engine gasket kit from blackdragonauto.com It seems to be good quality stuff, and it has everything for a complete engine rebuild, except for the top half of the oil pump gasket. Price was decent and shipping was quick. One of the gaskets was cracked when I got it, they sent me off another one right away.
  19. Hi and welcome to the club. Lots of great info here, try the search function and you'll probably find most of the answers you need.

  21. good job, they look nice. I love seeing all the great 'refreshing' before and after pics and projects people post here.
  22. I ordered rockers from Tabco before. Shipping to Canada was quick, they were packed well. Prices were less than the retailers also, as zbane pointed out they make them.
  23. Ya please do..I'm interested in this now.

How are YOU going to feel about leaving the engine in and doing the rest of the car? I pulled my motor and everything else out of my compartment and it was quite a task. Then you have wiring harnesses, brake/fuel lines, etc etc. I know it would cost extra for a complete color change including engine bay (maybe someone more experienced could chime in), and it would be alot more work for you. But it would look better, and you can get the color you want. I think I agree with ARNE, stick to the 905 red and clean up the engine bay. I would take a whole day or two and get a toothbrush into every nook and cranny and get all the grease out of everywhere just to see how good it looks clean.
  25. Just the floors, supports, and rails from datsunzxparts.com will cost you about $800.00 with shipping extra. I paid about $2000.00 to have my floors/rails/supports/rockers replaced plust about $1200.00 for parts. Thats over double your budget!!! And I bet when you get under there and take a look, you'll need rockers, doglegs, etc, etc. Walk away from this one. Take some time and look around.
