Interesting 240Z Listing on Ebay
Mike, I agree with you, you don't see too many people show pics of all the ID tags (they even show a pic of the engine serial #, which just happens to be matching).. I don't care much for the red interior, especially the velour stuff they have in there, but that can easily be changed. (I'm changing out the red iinterior in my '72 to black) Yes, the dash looks bad, but overall seems to be a pretty solid car. As of the time of this posting, the car still hasn't met reserve and is at $4,150.00 with just under 3 days remaining. There seems to be a number of 240s listed on Ebay right now besides this one and someseemed to be at very reasonable prices right now for you bargain hunters: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-240Z-1972-Datsun-240Z-good-condition_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6187QQitemZ4619279035QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-240Z-HIGH-PERFORMANCE-1972-Datsun-Nissan-240Z_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6187QQitemZ4619714442QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Need Original Factory Left Front Fender
Well, of the 17 Nissan dealers in Colorado, there are 7 in the Denver metro area. I think I called all 7 plus one in Colorado Springs on Monday & Tuesday and none of them had any fenders in stock. In fact, a couple of the parts guys told me that they don't make them anymore and one even told me to call BV (yeah, right.. like I'm going to do that!). However, one I spoke to yesterday (Tuesday) was very helpful-Empire Lakewood Nissan, he first did a search for one in the Denver area, no luck (I could have told him that) then he did a search for Colorado, still no luck, than he did a national search and found one. At first he gave me a 15% Z-car club discount, then I told him that club member Danny posted a copy of his receipt on this website showing the Nissan dealer in Georgia gave him a 20% discount. so he gave in and applied a 20% discount for the fender! The fender should be in by tomorrow or Friday. Thanks for all the good advice guys, I really appreciate it! ) I feel good about my purchase from a dealer rather than some fly-by-night parts warehouse I found on the Internet.

Need Original Factory Left Front Fender
Thanks for the advice Tom! I didn't think too much about those UPS guys-you are right about that! I just got an e-mail back from myautobodyparts.com in California and the shipping & handling is almost as much as the fender itself at $89.00. Geeez, California isn't that far away and 1 fender doesn't weigh very much..... I think I will try calling around again to some more local Nissan dealers this afternoon (no luck yesterday).

Need Original Factory Left Front Fender
Danny, Thanks for posting the Nissan part numbers for the fenders. I Googled the part numbers and found a place called myautobodyparts.com out of California that will sell the OEM fenders for only $107.09 each plus shipping. They did not list a phone number, so I could only e-mail them to find out what the shipping cost would be (still waiting for a reply). Has anyone ever dealt with this place before?

2300 mile road trip for $250.00 240 worth it?
Eric, Oh man, what an adventure! I'm really glad you were able to buy the white 240 and for such a great price! As for the brown one, no wonder they didn't show the front on the car on the Ebay pics. Sounds like the white one is pretty solid. As of the time of this posting, the pics of the car weren't in your gallery yet, but I will check it out tonight when I get home.

As the Old Saying Goes-If it Sells Too Quick
All of the serial numbers were matching and the engine block matched the engine number on the data plate. Judging from the pictures, there must have been $800.00 in brand new parts that came with the car. I would say that the buyer did very well on this Series I car and the seller screwed up. He did the right thing by starting the bidding at $5,000.00, but he should have let the auction run its course for the full 7 days and not have the low Buy It Now.

As the Old Saying Goes-If it Sells Too Quick
I saw this listed this morning and knew that it was priced too low. It started out at $5k and had a Buy-it-Now price of $6,500.00. It sold in just 24 hours for the Buy-it-Now...no surprise when you give it away.. here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4618969394&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Brain, I think that's really cool! The pics & layout look really good. Tell us more about what the article said (since most of us can't read Japanese).

2300 mile road trip for $250.00 240 worth it?
Looks like the white one Art was talking about was sold back on February 11. Unfortunately for Eric, it only states that the car must be paid for within 2 weeks of auction end and doesn't give a time frame of when the buyer needs to pick up the car. Need Original Factory Left Front Fender
Sounds reasonable for a new fender. DKD021, which club discount are you referring to?
-
perhaps an ignorant question...
Not as far as I know. Obvious things like the weight of the car and the bigger bumpers on the 260 & 280 affected things, but the body is the same in both length and width. That's why all of the body parts like the hood, front fenders, rear quarter panels, rear hatch, windshield, etc are all interchangeable.

Need Original Factory Left Front Fender
Thanks, guys. I didn't realize that new fenders were still available from Nissan. How much $ are we talking about?

Need Original Factory Left Front Fender
Having some serious problems with the fit of the aftermarket left front fender on my '72 240. Does anyone have a good used original one from a 240, 260 or 280 they would be willing to sell to me for a reasonable price? I would only be interested in a factory original and not an aftermarket fender. Thanks!

Have a safe trip, Eric. I'm looking forward to see more pics of the car.

Is it bad form to....
Yeah, I think it's a great idea if looks are what your goal is. If you do this, just be sure to change out the grill (with turn signals), lower valances for 240 parts...ahh, probably easier said than done, huh?

2300 mile road trip for $250.00 240 worth it?
Guys, The Red '73 (that was sanded down & now looks pink) is still sitting there, along with a couple more that didn't sell (see below). They have had 8 Zs listed on Ebay in the last couple weeks and these Zs should all still be there, at least for a while. Remember the old car collector's motto "Don't crush 'em restore 'em!" http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1973-Datsun-240Z-Excellent-project-car-red-pink-color_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6783QQitemZ8039571233QQrdZ1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1974-Datsun-260z-Good-Parts-Project-Car-Preppy_W0QQitemZ8036964601QQcategoryZ6783QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Black-1976-Datsun-240Z-Great-project-car-2-2-new_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6783QQitemZ8039574960QQrdZ1

#4633 on eBay
Yeah, I think it's at a pretty low price for the general condition of the car ($2,550.00 with just under 2 days left at the time of this posting). I've had my eye on this one and even e-mailed the seller with a couple questions late last week. One of the questions I asked was if he by any chance still had the original engine lying around and he said no. I really want to find a 1970 with a low VIN like this one, but with mataching numbers. Even without the original matching engine, it's still a bargain right now. I would say for any of our SoCal members to check this one out. Here is a link the seller provided for addtional pics: http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=4333247&a=32096959&f=

2300 mile road trip for $250.00 240 worth it?
ER, I almost feel responsible for what you're going through right now, since I was the one who started the "Two Zs in the Desert Going Cheap" thread. I think the car is a real bargain and from the 2 pics the seller provided, there only looks to be a little surface rust on the car. I would also say that since you are making a semi-vaction out of the trip and stopping by the Grand Canyon, it's worth the trip. However, just to be on the safe side, I would recommend that you contact members Red-Eye and RAZ1 who both live in the Albuquerque area to check out the car for you.
