my car has been sitting for twenty years without being run. i didn't want to chance that old pump letting me down while out cruising once i finally get mine back together. after spending almost $160 for the Holley pump, i found one alot cheaper with the same 5.5-9 psi specs at a local parts store for $38.

i replaced my stock electric fuel pump with the 12vt Holley offered by MSA. when we first turned the key on, it wouldn't run. this car had been sitting for the last twenty years. taking a pair of jumper cables, we attached them directly to the pump off of the battery and it ran fine. after a few minutes, the pump ran on its own. my buddy helping me figured that the relays had finally kicked in, getting power to the pump after sitting for so long without working. we have had no problems with the pump since, and even did away with the mechanical pump on the engine. fwiw butch

you are right about that eastern side of Arkansas being flat and boring. it is a shame you didn't make it over to nw Arkansas and ride thru the Ozark mountains on your way into Missouri. we have some great hills and curves along with some beautiful views. i love driving my z around here. that is an impressive road trip you are making in the z. goodluck with your adventure.

have you driven the vette? i doubt it handles anything near as nice as your z. you mentioned that you enjoyed the looks and comments you got while driving your z. i bet that won't happen in a vette, there are too many out there. your car, your decision, but i would keep what i had and when time and money allowed, do some things to improve what your z.

my '88 300ZX was purchased after finding it on auto trader. after several phone calls with the seller and emails with lots of pictures, i flew out with an agreement that if it was not as represented, he would refund my money that i had given him to hold it. the inside door handle was broken, and the windshield had a crack in it, which he forgot to mention. i had purchased a one way plane ticket, and went ahead with the purchase, but i should have asked for my deposit back to cover the repairs. when i sold this car on EBay, i listed every little knick and scratch, along with problems i was having with the ac at the time. the buyer wanted it worse than me, and everyone else, because he paid my buy it now price, which i had set, based on my cost of the vehicle and and all up grades that i had done. the buyer was very happy with the purchase, and has even emailed me with up dates and pictures of the car.
  10. guys, i am new at this and wondering if my car is set up to rust also. the fellow i have helping get my z back together, sprayed the undercoating all in the fender wells, and also underneath the car. (this was done without even asking me if i wanted it or not) not sure what product he used, it came in a spray can. the car was rust free, as best i could tell, before applying the undercoating. now you have me thinking i need to remove all of this and start over.
  11. Bruce, my package showed up and we will be working on rebuilding my carbs this week:) thanks for the great service. butch

i owned this one. an 88 SS that i found in California and drove back to Arkansas. very fast car for stock, and i loved it. only problem with it, was no back seat for our youngest son, still at home, so we sold it. stay away from the digital dash and automatic climate controlled 300 zx offered in the 86-89 models. those are very expensive to work on, especially if you have to pay someone to do it.
  13. Arne, you have said the same for me. i have lots of new friends by owning a z. several i would have never talked to or associated with, if it hadn't been for our cars. by the way, if i missed it in another post, congrats on having your car featured in the back of Nissan Sport, in the club section.
  14. all hardware and lumber yards sell a roll of peel and stick foam in different widths and thickness, such as 1/2" wide by 1/4" thick. this might be an option if you want to get rid of the rattles and squeeks in your panels. 10' lengths per roll retail usually for around $5.00
  15. i am new at this so i am sure that this is just a guess, but i would think it is a cut off switch to stop the fuel pump incase of a wreck.
  16. forgot to add that i went with regular pads for now. my local parts guy, did a quick search for something better, and didn't turn anything up. after i see what i have, i can always up grade on the next set. one last pic, that shows the rear set up with the strut tower.
  17. the rear callipers are 280ZX,and i didn't include a proportioning valve. i thought we would try it as is,and then add if need be. the calliper paint came in a kit, with cleaner, stir stick, tape, and a pint of high heat paint. i picked red,but in the pictures they look orange to me. i also added a new master cylinder with the double pots, for pushing the extra pistons.
  18. ok one more and i will stop for now.
  19. sorry for all of the posts,i still have trouble posting more than one picture at a time. and on the rear set up,notice how he made my original e brake cable work with my new callipers.
  20. the pictures are not that good, i hope you can see what i mean.
  21. i haven't seen the toyota callipers set up this way,and can't take the credit since i had another good friend to do the work. i like the way it turned out and hope that you all will look closely at the pictures. there are grade eight flat washers between the rotor and hub with grade eight bolts. then the other spacer to give clearance between the wheel and callipers are from my rear aluminum drums that i didn't need anymore.
  22. finally recieved the correct rear struts and springs for my car yesterday. after going thru all of the hassle with the EBay seller. this sweet deal turned sour when i was promised that the new replacement parts would ship as soon as they recieved notice that the other parts had been picked up by the shipper. i called on Friday before Easter to find that my parts were not going out untill Monday. then it turns out,the wrong address or zip code was used so after four days of touring the west side of the US,they had to send them out a second time. the free shipping on the original deal was out the window on the return of incorrect parts and new parts. that cost me $40,and i didn't argue the point that they were the ones that told me that the original 251 kit would fit my car. at the time,i just wanted something that would work. if you drive a 260Z, take close measurements of your strut towers before ordering. my strut towers measured close to 2",which called for the 253 kit. the smaller diameter tower on the front measured 1 3/4" which would use the 251 kit offered. we may get the car off of jack stands today after sitting for close to three weeks waiting on parts. if i had known to check the diameter of the towers before ordering, i could have avoided all of this. the part numbers on the springs and struts were different than the first ones i recieved, but i didn't take time to write those down for you when i dropped them off yesterday, but i will try and get that for everyone later if you care to have it. the sad thing on all of this is that the EBay seller still doesn't understand that he screwed up all along saying that this kit would fit my z.

i wonder if goof off would remove it. a friend used that to remove old tinting residue on a vehicle he purchased, and it worked great on that.
