Hands up who's in Perth (or Australia...)
I often wondered if it would cost more to ship parts from the U.S. than truck them over the central desert of Australia! It must be costly to get parts in Perth. But at least there you all can afford opal inlaid gauges. right?

MSA 17x7 wheels
I don't see why they should be willing to tell you. After all, researching the proper fittment spec, making a special order of a wheel, not normally produced, in numbers great enough to get the cost down, to offer to the public, who then goes and buys it somewhere else....Man I'm glad I'm not in retail!

prime carbs prior to starting??
Something is up. The bowls fill in just a few cranks. Have a doubt? open them up and look. Timing, Points, Firing order, fuel supply is the order of my "why it don't run" investigations.

Zx 5 speed in a 74 260x
It was a straight swap, with no mods, No shifter problem - Nada to put a 1980 ZX 5 speed into my 1972. Can't see why it would be any different for your 260. It's the ZX turbo 5 speed where problems arise

16" or 17" better for autocross???
I was wrong. They are Volk Racing TE-37's And they come in our sizes 14 X 7 4X114.3 0 Bronze 8.5lbs 14 X 7 4X114.3 0 White 8.5lbs 15 X 7 4X114.3 0 Bronze10.3lbs 15 X 7 4X114.3 0 White 10.3lbs Man is that light! too bad they don't come in gunmetal. I don't think white or bronze would look good on my lime car. I'll bet they are $1,200 per set though.

Question regarding intake balance tube.
! Oh - My - God ! Where can I find a balance tube like that!?! I've been wasting my time grinding off the bosses and looking for a mig welder to fill the holes on a "Project" balance tube, just so it can look like one that's already out there!?! Unbelievable!

Not too shabby! Who built It? Was the unit-body reinforced enough? I hear some convertables can a little loose.

Leaking SU carbs
Jeff, Cut the gallery tube off from each individual tube rising from the exhaust manifold. Then flatten those tubes with Vice-Grips, fold them over and flatten them again. No more exhaust leak and you'll have a running car while you get your new components ready.

Headers /Exhaust suggestions
Yea, It fogged a bit. Sort of whiteish/pearlish. I was thinking it would come off with that good German polish - Flitz is it? But I haven't tried it yet.

Second Childhood
Today I was out-and-about the neigborhood, had lunch at my favorite fish taco joint, Senor Fish. After the delish lunch I stopped by my local Supermarket, not to buy anything, but to talk to the picketers of the striking grocery workers union. I support them as they are getting a raw deal. As I was ready to pull away, a couple of them started chanting "Burn Rubber". Well, I've never really purposely tried to spin them before, and thought "What the F**K". Wrapped it up, dropped the clutch and floored it. Woo Hoo! I laid a patch about a half a block long! Man did that make me smile!

rb20 in 280
No, there is one on the web 1966 Japanese Grand Prix (do you know Rob Beddington?). My info is Very sketchy, as you can see. For instance, I had beleived that the UY WAS a Prince/Nissan design. Les of CDM told me that the surviving UY is in a private collection in Japan. But, there is no surviving body/frame. Thank you Alan, and any further info you have or find is VERY welcome!

Headers /Exhaust suggestions
I have the MSA 6-into-1 ceramic coated header. It performs/sounds/looks great. It empties into a 2.5'' custom bent all-weld coated pipe to a single turbo muffler, mounted in the stock possition. I'm very happy with this set-up. The "Midas" job it had when I bought the car was WAY too quiet. No way was any sports car I own would sound like that!

260 2+2 what is really bad about ?
Sorry to get off thread - Yes That was my car. Don't be too surprised your car won. We are always over critical of our own cars. Your detailing was good. Because of that you made a better presentation. There were only about 5 260's there, so you didn't get lost in the crowd. Like when judging the 280's, you could have seen a perfect car first, and forgot about it by the time you saw the last! The mags are Pacer Sport wheels that the Nissan Dealers were installing on Z's and Roadsters in late 1969 and 1970 only. They came from the dealer on my 1970 Roadster. I'm not sure if it was just the SoCal Dealers or if they were more widespread. I had no idea of there history untill Les at CDM tried (hard) to buy them. After I refused, repetitivly, He showed my the first addition of "How to Modify Your Datsun" and in the back pages it went over the Dealer option parts and identified these wheels. Besides the 6 holes, they have a smooth dish to the rim edge, instead of the sharp angle to the flat of the rim. Downside, they are only 6'' as opposed to the 7'' "Indy" 5 holes wheels that were installed on later years Since then, I've had a couple of folks, who are restoring 1969~79 Z's get very excited when they ask "Will you sell them?". Followed by a dejected "Oh" when I answer negitive.

260 2+2 what is really bad about ?
I believe Alan brought up the fact that the 2+2 was developed simultaniously with the coupe. But, I could find no way for the search engine to accept "2+2 prototype". As for the 2+2 of any generation, If I wanted a four seater, I think I'd chose a car designed for that function over one that was adapted for it. On the other hand, If you don't start by comparing it to the coupe, It's still a handsome car. Even in the late 70's the U.S. market 260 was labled a Lemon due to the carburation. Smog laws limiting modification kept it down. The Weber DGV's were only a slight improvment over the Hitachi "Tuna Cans". It is most likley that the Hitachi's at perfect tune are better that their only Air-Board-approved replacement. However, here in California, lest further legislative action, the 1974 260 will be free of inspection. The law itself will still make altering engine components and disabling emission control devices a no-no. But, no one will look, unless your pulled over for smoking. I'm willing to bet there will be an even higher demand for Dome-tops, rebuilt or cores come next year. Ztherapy take note. Bumpers are a draw back on the U.S. market 74's. Did the Aussie market get the big bumpers? Maybe someone will reproduce the 73.5 ones for retrofit. Yes the interiors changed, but look at the photo of Ben's interior and tell me, "Is that any less of a classic Z?"
