last call for joy riders
Hi everybody, Yes there wasn´t too many problems in understanding each other. The only problems we had were reading the maps, finding mountain passes still closed because of snow & trying to make sense of the menus. A really great trip. We spoke about organising a similar trip for 2005. When we´ve finalised the details we´ll publish the details.

pit stop

Hi Everybody, What a great week ! Up & down classic mountain passes, in & out of Switzerland, Italy & France, wonderful food & most important of all great company. Unfortunately Auke from Holland had a problem with a driveshaft, but he caught up with us in a hire car. Hopefully I´ll have time before the weekend to download a few photos.

How loud are twice pipes?
Hi Guys, I likes the idea of Twice pipes but living the wrong side of the water to buy them I decided to make my own system. I used a couple of RC40 exhaust systems that are noramlly fitted to a Mini. After some 6 hours of cutting, modifying, welding & swearing it was finished. The results are good, it is not noisy at all at motorway speeds but on acceleration it sounds great & most important the system should be good for no power drop up to 260 bhp ! The car´s performance has certainly improved on the first shakedown run along the motorway the car was pulling an indicated 218 kph before I thought about my driving licence. The car certainly pulls a lot harder from 4,000 revs to 6,000 revs. I need to take the car to the local rolling road to reset up the car & confirm the results. I´m busy for the next couple of weeks but asap will report back.

1965 Silvia for sale in the UK
Hi Abas, May be you should do the same as me. I normally do a couple of evenings a week, starting at 6.30 & going on until I´m worn out or need to eat something. I´m lucky as I do not have a young family & my wife enjoys our cars as much as I do, so I get permission to not be present at evening meals, etc. I normally spend either Saturday or Sunday all day on my cars so I can actually get through a load of work. I think you need to speak to "her indoors" !

1965 Silvia for sale in the UK
Hi Sblake1, I´m a fairly normal 5ft 10 so I presume that I should fit in fine though there will not be a lot of extra space like in my 260Z. I´m really looking forward to staring the restoration & getting the car running. I´m lucky as the car is really complete with all the correct parts.

1965 Silvia for sale in the UK
Hi everyone, I´m not to tall so I suppose I should fit in the car ok, even so I don´t care if it´s a bit cramped. I´ll just put up with the lack of space & enjoy the Silvia ! I know the car is a complete restoration project but it appears to be solid with just surface rust. I´ll post photos as soon as I go to collect the car. Thanks to everyone for your support.

Ok its time to own up. I´ve already sent a down payment for the Silvia. I couldn´t resist owning such a rarity. Here in Europe I´ll NEVER park next to another one ! I´ll keep you posted on the restoration.

last call for joy riders
Hi V12 Horse, From the information Guus has passed on to me we will be doing 1200 kms on the trips, but as we will going over numerous mountain passes it will probably take us 5 days. & obviously we´ve got to eat well, take loads of photos & spend plenty of time admiring the views & the Z´s. I personally we will be doing some 1800 kms just to get to the Interlaken Meeting then about 800 km home after we finish in Monte Carlo. I agree with you that Guus´s Z will attract a lot of attention & for all the right reasons.

last call for joy riders
Hi Sean, The plan is to visit Paolo in Turin before going on to Milan & then a spirited run up the Stelvio ......... After that to Interlaken & a few days with fast Guus. Just don´t make any more babies as you can´t use the same excuse next year ! What do you think about organizing a tour of Spain for 2005 ?

hhhmmm What do ya think
Hi seerex, I don´t think that I would bother with this garbage. I think your money would be better spent getting your original seats restored. Maybe you could offer the seller 5 dollars for the seat & use modify them for use as bar stools !!

Tools
Hi Dead Roman, I suppose that I have a very peculiar way of buying tools. Apart from buying tools that I currentley need to a job, I always buy some sort of tool or product whenever I go to a supermarket or wholesale supplier. I´ve been collecting tools over the last 5 or 6 years & now rarely get caught out without a suitable tool to do the job. Maybe it´s not very logical but it certainly worked for me.

last call for joy riders
Hi Guys, I´m one of the lucky b*****ds who will be travelling with Fast Guus at the end of the month. But just to make it a bigger & better trip I going to Turin & Milan first, then a couple of days getting in some "hairpin practise" through the Alps, then on to Interlaken to start the real trip. I´m sure that we will take loads of photos & download them into out gallerys to make you all envious My personal thanks to Guus for having the b**ls to suggest such a get together & see it through ............ Only problem is I have still got to wait 2 1/2 weeks ..........

Rare custom SU intake
That really is an interesting design, it must be a most efficient way of reducing the power output of a Z published to date on the web. I don´t think I will be bidding !

What size T-shirt do you wear?

Spain
I agree. They are heartless bastards. I´ve been speaking to friends in Madrid & I can assure you that the truth is a lot worse that the images on the TV. One friend, whos lives close to the Atocha train station, said the the fire brigade have to go up on of the trees in front of his flat to remove limbs & blood stained clothing ........... I´ve been to the demonstration in Barcelona this evening, the centre of the city was totally paralised by ordinary folk showing their disgust at what happened. I hope that no other country has to go through what we are going through.

Z Music
Hi Guys, I´ve got a MP3 cd player in my Z so I´ve got loads in music available. My current favorites for acompanying me in my Z are : - Police, Bob Marley, Santana, Men at Work ( remember the guys "with a fried out combi"?, Amr Diab ( a fab Egyptian singer songwriter), Mecano & Hande Yener ( the most sexy singer in the world ). Ok that my 2 cents worth.

Replacement headlights
Hi 240ZX I´ve got a pair of Lucas H4 headlamps on my Z with some special Piaa bulbs that give a really bright white light. Also I´ve wired them so that on main beam the dip beam stays on through relays. Also I removed the shroud that goes over the bulb. This set up is really good & certainly up to the Z´s performance. Also on my MG TD I´ve a pair of Hella H4 lamps with the same bulbs & instalation. They are even better. I think you should go for really good headlamp units & bulbs. It´s more expensive but you´ll not regret it ! Hope this helps.

What model Z do or did you own?
Hi Guys, I´ve only had I Z. I bought a euro spec 260Z last december & havn´t stop enjoying it sine. I can´t imagine enjoying another car as much. Just remember old z´s don´t die, they just get faster !

Lightened flywheel
Hi Landmizzle, I´m glad to hear that you are happy with the gearbox conversion. Welcome to the clan of Z drivers with a clutch pedal.

260Z Truth
Hi Sean, Yes not bad engine performance but the carbs are ´orrible to ajust. I been looking at the 240Z carbs & I think I can fit SU HIF type dashpots, piston, floating type needles, etc. I´m fairly confident that, with a some twiddling with carbs, dizzy, spark plugs, valve clearance settings, etc that I´ll be able to get another 15 bhp. So I thinks that it´s probably worth it with a much cleaner pickup at lower speed. I show you soon !

Front view
Thanks 240ZX for your comments. I´m already doing a few jobs to the car. I´ve taken all the front & rear suspension out, scraped off 28 years of gunge & s**t & I have painted. I´m hoping to have the car on the road again on Saturday. I´m getting withdrawl symptoms

260Z Truth
Hi V12 Horse, I can prove that at least my european spec 1976 260Z has 162hp stamped on the chassis plate. I was trying to set up the Hitachi Flat top ( heap of rubbish ) carbs at the local rolling road & car car showed 159 hp at the flywheel when I gave up trying to make the b******y thing work. I´ll be fitted some 240Z carbs next week so I´ll let you know what the motor produces once I´ve been down to the rollers.

Z Security
Hi Sean, I´ve had a quick look at the handbrake on my 260Z. If the 240Z unit is similar I could modify it to a fly off handbrake. If your interested let me have an old unit & I´ll sort it out for you. In addition I´ll take a few photos for the members so that they can do it themselves.
