Chicago Z Mechanic & Bodywork
Hi Everyone! Looking for recommendations in the Chicago and Chicago Suburbs for mechanics or painters. I have a few projects planned for the next year and am starting to get my quotes lined up. Any feedback would be great! Transmission rebuilding (Standard 280z Z 5 speed) Painting services (Paint is a little worse for wear, needs redone) Thanks! D

New mustache bushing updates?
@EuroDat & @Zed Head Happy to ask! No promises on any of this though. Having worked for an OEM in the past, sometimes finding old specs and doing small runs can be impossible and/or expensive. Fingers crossed that is not the case. @grannyknot still trying to find out. Just got passed from purchasing to their motorsport division in Japan. Still trying to track down the right person.

1977 280z Light Restoration Project
Project Update: Finally got all of my new parts in and am starting reassembly this week! Replacing the worn out struts first. Went to pull the first one last night and the entire thing came out in pieces. Sprayed the whole bench with oil when it came apart ? . No idea what brand these are because there are no markings or part numbers whatsoever. Is it still best practice to backfill the strut housing with oil to prevent rust? And if yes, what kind of oil is recommended?

New mustache bushing updates?
Hey Guys, quick update on the reproduction rubber bushings. Heard back from my contact in Nissan USA. Bad news is that there is not a lot of information on the mustache bushing parts within the US organization because everything was produced in Japan and "sold" to the US legal entity, so limited visibility. Good news is they are following up with some contacts within Nissan Japan to track down the original supplier and minimum order quantity to reproduce. At some point, we are going to need an estimate of how many potential orders the Z community might have for these parts if they could be made available. Is there a polling option within ClassicZCars or something that we could set up to send out to the community? Was thinking we could also reach out to Courtesy to see how many requests they get for these things each year. Open to other ideas!

New mustache bushing updates?
@dhp123166 Good insights, thanks! So a few follow up questions: Can the mustache bar on the 240z/260z be retrofitted with the 280z sleeve design? If not, can the 280z mustache bar be fitted on the 240z/260z? Are the mustache bar designs different based on differential (e.g. R180 vs R200) If the sleeves individually couldn't be provided, but we could find someone to produce new mustache bars with pressed fittings, would people be willing to pay for the whole assemblage?

New mustache bushing updates?
I work for a OEM supplier that works with Nissan and am happy to see if we have any contacts to their parts org. Will ask around and see what I can find out. Can someone confirm all of the part numbers required? 55476-N4300 - Mustache Bar Bushing 55475-N4300 - Serrated Washer 55474-N4300 - Serrated Washer

Stock Sway Bar End Link Length
Hey Guys/Gals, Replacing the rear sway bar link ends on my 1977 280z as the current ones are pretty rough. I noticed that there were two different sizes of fixed link ends (1" and 1.6") on Z Car Depot and I can't find any mention of the difference. Does anyone know which one is closest to stock? Car is currently stock except for MSA lowering springs (soon).

Is this Differential Arrestor Spent?
Thanks guys! Didn't want to throwaway good parts if not necessary.

Is this Differential Arrestor Spent?
Is this differential arrestor (55425-N4300) spent? It doesn’t look too bad, but it’s a little stiff and there is a tiny bit of wear near where the bolts are. Debating whether to replace it while the diff is off.

280z - Rear Bumper Term and Door Bumper Advice
@CanTechZ Thanks, I appreciate it. It happens. People are always looking to cut a corner. Not sure the PO did any masking when they resprayed. There was paint on the suspension, wheel wells, seals, and everything else. So I knew it was going to need some TLC when I bought it lol. @gwri8 got all the residue off and it looks better. Going to buff it better once I get the car back together and out of the garage. At night, its harder to see but more noticeable in the day when the metal flake picks up the light. Either way, I am not doing any shows or concourse de elegance so the only person's judgement I am worried about is mine. I have a friend who does car wraps so I was debating temporarily wrapping it a different color entirely and then fixing the paint in a few years.

280z - Rear Bumper Term and Door Bumper Advice
@CanTechZ Good news: Was the adhesive moulding and came off without a hitch. ? Bad News, whem the PO repainted the car, they just left the moulding on. So will need to repaint the doors at some point. But either way, this is way better than welding up screw holes. Also, I know its not original but the 302 silver looks a lot more exciting with some metal flake in it.

280z - Rear Bumper Term and Door Bumper Advice
@CanTechZ Definitely not the screw type then. If I pop the plastic paneling in the trunk or the door, I should be able to see the rivets if there are any right?

@SteveJ Do you know if there is a good guide for accessing those screws or rivets?

280z - Rear Bumper Term and Door Bumper Advice
Hopefully two quick questions. Does anyone know what the term is for this part? For the rubber bump guards on the side of the car, are these either adhesive or riveted? Or some combination of both? Started pulling at the back and it looks like adhesive for at least the first 6cm or so, but didn't want to start pulling if there is likely to be a rivet in the middle.

Anyone Tried Rota RK-R or Atara Racing Pisang?
Was dreaming about RS Wats this morning, but priced them out and at $2,100-2,400 delivered, they are a bit out of my price range. This realization resulted in a spiral around SE Asia replica options (Rota RK-R, Atara Pisang). I wanted to see if anyone has bought these in the past that can talk about their long term experience (Cracking, finish issues, fitment challenges). Also, is there a good site for used rims? Been watching ebay, craigslist, and FB Marketplace, but Watanabes tend to pop up rarely and go quickly. Tagging a few users who have mentioned Rota RK-R or Atara Pisang in the past. @spitz17, @chachacourt, @srbigbutt, @WarrenZ, @Kevin McSweeney

AC Condenser - Its Broke Right?
Still chasing down a few gremlins on the Z I bought last year. Was under the hood and noticed all of this build up on the condenser. I am assuming this is most likely the Mineral oil in the R12 leaking out?

Z Car Depot Lowering Springs
Actually @SoCalJim I decided to go grab one to check because I was curious. Looks like they are 15” which I think is around stock for the free length of the 280z. It’s definitely not the struts either because both are blown, no rebound when compressed.
